October Snow - Not Funny Here in Northern-NJ

Posted on 10/29/2011 2:23:03 PM PDT by ml/nj

I know it's fun to laugh at the fools in the OWS crowd as they must also cope with the weather. But none of the local governments (county and towns) have done any work on the roads around where I live. I went out this morning and had about a four mile drive to come home. Returning around 2 PM, it took me a harrowing three quarters of an hour. On my way home every uphill grade was a challenge. I had to dodge downed powerlines and trees which turned much of my route into a single lane road. Power has gone out three times so far as I type this. I never know when it will be for the duration. I keep hear branches crash as I type.

Here are a couple of pictures:

(Not quite as bad as it looks as some of the stuff on the ground in the woods is bushes.)

Uneeda SUV with studded tires, just like folks in the country have so they can remain relative self sufficient.

Get a grip or call Zer0 for help.

Carry a chainsaw and some chains/cables to clear the road too.

Still have power at our house in CT. but doubt we will for long especially if the wind kicks in later tonight. Have about 8-10 inches of snow and forecast is for another 10 - 12 hrs until the storm subsides. Yikes.

Obastard will declare this National State of Emergency #225 in 2011. A new national record. You are in good hands. Do not despair.

Yep, we (Floridians) really hate it when that happens in NJ. I’ll bet you will feel better by watching the Florida/Georgia game. :)

Just imagine how bad it would be if we didn’t have all that global warming!

Past experiences sympathize with you on the very sloppy and wet mix y’all have going on right now.

We’ve got seven inches of wet, heavy snow already. Lots of trees down.

Can someone tell Al Gore that his global warming crap is just that.

Not funny or beautiful at all. Snowed onDonner Pass a coupla weeks ago. I spent 3 days without running water last year and people called it beautiful. Of course, they weren’t driving in it, or praying family members would make it home. I dont even want to see a picture of it. Nonetheless we are headed for I 80 to Oregon next week. I have been begging to stay in Texas. Chaining up an 18 wheeler is horrid. Hope that makes you feel better. I anticipate chaining a half dozen times in truly freezing, blowing, icy conditions. Time for a new location.

Ya know, it's not like it never snows around here.

The great government road crews are completely AWOL. No salt, no plows, still so far as I can tell. (Now that I'm home, I'm not leaving.)

Back in August, I cam home during the Hurricane Irene aftermath. (still raining and windy but no 75 MPH winds) Trees and powerlines out then too. I suppose I was driving home through different counties and municipalities, but at least I saw people (many were volunteers, but quite a few were obviously government employees) trying to do the best they could with the road blockages. Today it is if the government employees are all on strike.

Actually I prefer the games in the snow so I've been watching the WVa-Rutgers game (between power outages).

I'm just glad they didn't schedule the Breeders' Cup for Belmont this weekend. You know we want it back here, but this is ridiculous.

For the taxes you pay over there, they ought to plow and strew roses along the way.

About five or six years ago, we had an early October snowstorm in Buffalo. Heavy, wet snow with leaves still on the trees. It was the most devastating snowstorm since the Blizzard of '77.

The power was off for weeks in parts of the city and the trees were decimated. Good luck -- I don't envy you this.
