The purpose of an army is to destroy things and kill the enemy. We shouldn't have our men and women riding around the Afghan countryside waiting to be blown up by suicide bombers hell bent on jihad.
Destroy the enemy or get out. Our soldiers are not security guards.

"Destroy the enemy or get out. Our soldiers are not security guards." I've been saying that since 2003. It took until 2007 for Bush to figure it out (by coming up with this "Surge" strategy, when all along it should have been done right from the get-go), but by taking so long to figure it out, it cost us the Congress in 2006 and the 2008 election. Still, we drag this out. I say bring them the hell home now.

In my combat days there were no ROE’s.And in my opinion they have no place in a war. This is war.
Remove all ROE, go on the offensive and root the Taliban and any AQ around out of their holes with every means available. No one respects weakness, everyone respects strength. This enemy will stand down when faced with an insurmountable force. And that is what they need to see.

At the time I supported what we were doing, it was an honorable thing to do. But you can't take a country of cavemen and drag them (many kicking and screaming) into the 21st century.
In retrospect, all parties may have been better served sending a few nukes to well selected sites, speaking the language of strength, fear, and vengeance which the muslim understands.
