Steve Forbes: Rick Perry will win the Republican nomination

Former presidential candidate and current media mogul Steve Forbes said Thursday the Texas Republican governor Rick Perry is likely to capture the Republican presidential nomination.

"He was good on taxes and spending in Texas; he was very good on tort reform. Texas has been a cesspool for injury lawyers, and he made major changes - and the proof of it was they all moved to Oklahoma. And obviously I like his ideas on a flat tax. I think he genuinely wants to get the thing done. So it seems to be a good combination," Mr. Forbes said in an interview with the Daily Beast Thursday.

Just like Steve Forbes was going to win the 1996 nomination? Oops, I’m sorry, the 2000 nomination? Oops, I’m sorry.

I hate to say it, but I am still just so GD undecided, it’s driving me nuts. There are so good candidates, but there is no one who lights my fire like SP did.

Damn.

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a candidate start out with the big Mo, lost it, then regain it to win.

Steve isn’t taking the screaming emotional loony vote into account.

Dick Nixon, but it took almost eight years!

As I am except for Romney and Huntsman.

It's going to take a he!! of a lot more to get me to put the rest in the same category as those two yahoo's!

And maybe Perry will be successful in 2016, which would be a good corollary, but in 2012 his goose is cooked IMO.

Actually 2020 would be more appropriate if we’re talking eight years.

Steve isn’t taking the screaming emotional loony vote into account.

I think he has considered you, that's just not enough for Perry to win. :-P

I wish he would - and I didn’t like Perry to begin with - because Perry is the one who has the most documented conservative positions but is also probably best able to negotiate success (that is, carry out his agenda through third parties, such as Congress).

My personal favorite is Newt Gingrich, but it looks to me as if the GOP has already decided it will be a Romney/Cain ticket.

I think Cain is a decent person and a successful businesman with good inspirations (but little real knowledge of the rest of the world), but he’s not very socially conservative and he’s not presidential material. He’s good at “debates” because he has a radio program. But he will be what the GOP will use to get people to vote for Romney, just the way they used Palin to get people to vote for McCain.
