On Tuesday, the BOCC will take up consideration of a resolution brought forth by Ed Slavin. Mr. Slavin, a long time liberal activist in this county and a disbarred attorney from the State of Tennessee has for the last several years been pushing the idea for a National Mega Park for the St. Johns County Area. His plan would be for the county to turn over to the Federal Government over 120,000 acres of public lands, including all the land owned by the Water Management District for this Mega Park. Now he is pushing for concrete action. He claims many benefits in the form of lower cost to you the taxpayer. Unfortunately any lower cost in the form of reduced taxes will come at the expense of your freedom and private property rights. First and formeost, the legislation attached to his legislation shows a big government, "green economy" bias. It states as part of the purposes: (D) to protect us from hurricanes by protecting wetlands; (E) to respond to coastal erosion with a coherent management plan; (F) to protect endangered species and scenery forever; (G) to grow our economy and encourage historic and environmental tourism; (H) to preserve and protect the St. Johns River and Ocala National Forest and existing state parks and forests and water management district lands from further depredations; (I) to preserve St. Augustine's history and natural beauty for future generations. It is clear from these purposes the act would restrict private property rights and give the government vast and extensive control over all land uses within the county. Secondly, it would destroy our ability to govern ourselves. As part of the designation of the boundaries of the park, they include:
"the scenic St. Johns River, from its headwaters and tributaries to its mouth, including the riverbed;" " beaches, submerged lands, marshes and other areas that are owned by the cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach and by the State of Florida in trust for the people of Florida, including marshes, reefs, shorelines and underwater archaeological artifacts;"
"(xi) St. Johns River Water Management Districts Twelve Mile Swamp, Deep Creek, Matanzas Marsh, Moses Creek and Stokes Landing reservations located in St. Johns County, Florida and Pellicer Creek, Graham Swamp Conservation Areas in Flagler County and the Crescent Lake Conservation Area in Flagler and Volusia Counties; (xii) Designated portions of the seashore owned by St. Johns County, Florida between the Duval and Flagler County lines;"
As well as a great many of the churches in St. Augustine (including many privately owned). The legislation would have private property seized and turned over to the federal government including the entire St. Johns River which is the single largest source of water for all of Central and Northern Florida.
It would render all local governments impotent to the jurisdiction of an "appointed board" of governor infinitely more wise than you or I or the people we elect to administer our affairs. At its most absurd implementation, you would have to park your cars and cede title to your property if the "Secretary" (of the Interior) deemed it was in the best interest of the National Park.
You would become a slave in your own home.
Join us on Tuesday morning, tell the Commission, enough of this nonsense. Kill this proposal, put a silver bullet between its eyes and drive a wooden stake through its heart.
Tuesday morning, November 1, 2011 at 9:00 am in the commission chambers.
They should pass it for kicks. That way when the next hurricane comes along, the liberals can be blamed for them.
Jesus, just when you think things can’t get any more insane than they are...
Do a search on Edward Slavin. He lives with no visible means of support but the money has to be coming from someone.
A shark whose behavior was unacceptable to Tallahassee wants to steal what, from whom?
As they said in Florida before it was somewhat neutered by the PC Speek Crowd, “The b*lls of the boy!”
You are, of course, totally correct in your prediction of what will occur if this collectivists dream is not rejected on November 1. Hopefully, the TEA Party members will not just fill the hearing room, they will literally surround the building.
Holy Crap! This idea is going to go over like a fart in a diving bell. Does this fool also think he is going to take away all of the riverfront property along the river up to the mouth at Mayport?
How in the hell did this even get onto the agenda for consideration? The riverbanks all along the county are filled with lots of homes, some are very expensive.
Thanks for giving the heads up! Is this also being supported by Mayor Brown of Jacksonville?
Do some searching and reading on Agenda 21. Things like this are happening all over as bits and pieces of a greater scheme. If you can’t put it all together it’s hard to see what is going on.
10-4. The FCTP (First Coast Tea Party) is already on the Agenda 21 issue and is sending a report to the council members. It also includes the fact that the City of Jacksonville has been and still is sending money to the Tides Foundation.
Yep, I post a lot at FCTP. It would be great if a bunch of Jacksonville folks attended the St. John’s County meeting.

From a Consumer Advocacy sute:
“The Supreme Court of Tennessee disbarred EDWARD A. SLAVIN, JR for engaging in misrepresentation and deceit to the courts and his clients; failing to preserve client property; charging excessive fees; violating court orders; demonstrating incompetence and lack of diligence; and abusing the legal process by habitually violating the Tennessee rules of professional conduct with regard to harassment and intimidation of officers of the court and
opposing counsel and the filing of abusive, insulting, untrue, and unprofessional statements regarding judges, litigants, and opposing counsel.
ED SLAVIN has repeatedly engaged in the illegal, unlicensed practice of law since his disbarment in 2007, giving inaccurate, false and misleading legal advice to the public, his employer GLOBAL WRAP LLC, and others - most recently in Federal District Court for tortuous interference in the bankruptcy proceedings of a newspaper publisher and being held civilly liable to that company for nearly $60,000 of legal fees.
Since his disbarment, ED SLAVIN has and continues to solicit parents of children with learning disorders - representing himself as a “lay advocate” - ostensibly to file frivolous lawsuits on their behalf; in violation of Florida law. The weakest among us deserve protection from the loathsome, abusive likes of a fraud, cheat, liar and deadbeat like EDWARD ADELBERT SLAVIN, JR.
Someone is funding him, he is a professional commie.
I just saw this SS : / How did it go? Were you all able to kill it?
May God guide our course.

I don’t know yet. I’m not able to go many places, so my effort is limited to working from home.
A proposal to turn over 133,000 acres of St. Johns County, water management and state lands to the federal government for creation of a national historic park and seashore was denied unanimously Tuesday by the County Commission.

These Agenda 21 folks are really stepping it up aren’t they? Thank you Lord, for the TeaParty getting geared up to fight it.

Oops, laughs. Must be those great minds thinking alike and all ; }
May God bless you SS.

When the local libs wake up the gnashing of teeth will be audible clear to Outer Slobbovia!
They were all worked up about this.
This all speaks to an incredible abuse of power;(albeit, no more than 'business as usual for the Lib/Left); and should 'Slavin' get more traction; even greater abuse for St. John's County; and - by eventual turn - all Florida citizenry!
This was voted down; 5-0 on Tuesday; but Slavin, as might be expected; vows to press onward. He wants this on 2012 ballot - so that the 'people' can decide. We need to make sure our Legislators are on the right side of this issue.
