WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry said Wednesday that he has "no doubt" that President Barack Obama is an American citizen, staking out a definitive position on the matter after spending several days stoking widely debunked claims that the Democrat was born overseas.
Perry's comments come as he's struggling to right his troubled campaign, and as some Republicans question whether he's done irreparable damage to his run by dabbling in the so-called "birther" controversy in recent days.

Likely technically untrue (due to life overseas and international law of adoption), but still the wrong basic question.

being a citizen does not mean you’re also a natural born citizen, no matter how emphatic the anti-birthers proclaim it to be
meanwhile, last i checked... forging a government document was a crime. then again, so was identity theft (theft of another’s ssno... or 20)
ignoring article 2 section 1 has led us to the point where we are a lawless nation, which is to be expected. after all, the Constitution has no severability clause... it’s all or nothing
Of course Obama is a citizen, problem is not the correct type of citizen to hold office as POTUS.
He could be a community organizer for life though.

Birthers make kitty nervous.
Bambi’s definitely a citizen. But whether he was a citizen because he was born here (which is the only thing that counts in running for president) or because at the age of 18 he had the option of chosing to be a US citizen because he was the child of a US citizen (even though he had lived most of his childhood in Indonesia and was registered as an Indonesian citizen) is another matter. And you will note that Perry said nothing about this.

The issue for holding office is natural born citizen,(for which I believe Obama does not qualify), but I do not know how anyone can state with surety that Barry is not himself an undocumented worker.

Then how come he waited more than two years to produce his long-form COLB. And then when he did, he posted it on-line, and never let any experts look at it? And, unfortunately, it has been thoroughly established that it is a forgery.
That’s not even to raise the question of his having given up his citizenship to become an Indonesian. Sure, he could have gotten it back again, if he applied. But . . . where’s the paperwork?
No, he appears to be a triple citizen of Kenya, Britain, and Indonesia. But not of the United States.
but will birthers denouce Perry or back him? What are the factions within the birther community?
