Former Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern has been hospitalized for fatigue in South Dakota, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Jullie Ward, a spokeswoman for Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, said the 89-year-old former senator from South Dakota was admitted to the Sioux Falls hospital for fatigue after completing a lecture tour.
McGovern, a South Dakota congressman from 1957 to 1961 and U.S. senator from 1963 to 1981, ran for president against incumbent Richard Nixon in 1972 and lost in a historic landslide.
He ran for president three times, making a try for the nomination in 1968 and 1984 in addition to the 1972 race.

I thought he died in the seventies.

George McGovern
Is Jimmy Carter feeling OK?
He did, nobody told him.
He carried all of DC and Massachusetts
And I voted for the guy
gee when I am “fatigued” I just go to bed.......but then I am not 89 years old.....
To Senator McGovern’s credit, I believe he opposed the so-called “Employee Free Choice Act” which would’ve denied the right of employees to vote via secret ballot whether they wanted to unionize or not.
I was only 7! I couldn’t vote for either!
speedy recovery to a great American war hero
Wow, I remember that guy!
I was in the fourth grade back in 1972 when McGovern was running against Richard Nixon. Our schoolteacher had the class vote on Election Day morning. When the votes were counted, McGovern won by something like 27-3 and I remember the teacher seeming really annoyed that three of her pupils would write down Richard Nixon.
Good thing our parents were smarter than us - at least that go-around.
My mother loved that guy. I got to shake his hand at the SD state fair when I was a kid. He’s the only presidential nominee that I’ve ever shook hands with.
When I arrived in the US in 1971 many young people were supporting McGovern for POTUS against the incumbant Richard Nixon...
MA really is a unique place. 49-state blowout for Nixon was approaching, and the residents of MA just didn't see it coming.
Prayers up!
Reminds me of last November.....

He flew B-24s. Stephen Ambrose wrote a good book about it. He was wrong on some big things, but he never hated America.
You guys freakin make me so proud. I cannot imagine such kindness for a conservative at DU.
You know, that guy with the green teeth over at the Dew Drop Inn voted for McGovern...
I voted for George in 1971 (Dick Nixon drafted my ass). He would have been a rotten President.
Good wishes for you, liberal warrior, George. You were a product of your times and have never caused me to regret my vote.
Be well and for God’s sake, stop the socialist crap!
