Televangelist and mogul Pat Robertson a man whose name is practically synonymous with the Religious Right likely took 700 Club viewers by surprise today when he opined that the Republican base is losing support by pushing what he described as an extreme position.
Robertson expressed worry that Republican front runners are going to alienate voters during the general election by catering to a narrow base:
I believe it was Lyndon Johnson that said, I doubt these people realize if they push me over to an extreme position that Ill lose the election. And Im the one who will be supporting what they want, but theyre going to make it so I cant win. Those people in the Republican primary have got to lay off of this stuff. Theyre forcing their leaders, the front runners, into positions that will mean they lose the general election. Now whether this did it to Cain, I dont know, but nevertheless, you know, you appeal to the narrow base and theyll applaud the daylights out of what youre saying, and then you hit the general election and they say no way and then the Democrat, whoever it is, is going to just play these statements to the hilt. Theyve got to stop this! Its just so counterproductive! Well. If they want to lose, this is the game for losers. As Right Wing Watch notes, Robertsons statement came on the heels of a discussion about recent poll favorite Herman Cains shifting views on how the government should approach the issue of abortion.
How long until people take a look at this opinion made by a man who obviously is deeply integrated in and, we may assume, has a deep commitment to the Republican party and declare him a RINO, proving his point?

Poor guy. Sometimes we just don’t know when to give it up. He sounds like Biden.
By the way, write some jazz music for my daughter.

From Cox & Forkum:
I'd never heard that Pobertson is an anti-Semite.
Cheers!
If you’re going to put words in Jim R’s mouth at least have the decency to ping him yourself.
you’re rude.
that tells me that what i heard was correct.
Our nation, our culture and heritage is being destroyed and Pat is worried about being extreme.
jim robinson had a thread just the other day asking
republican candidates to stop attacking each other.
He lost me when he suggested that a man may divorce his wife if she has Alzheimer’s. The Christian community condemned his statements. Poor guy needs to pass the reigns to his son. He is obviously very confused.
Pat’s losing power and influence as kingmaker and resents it.
Biden???I think you are right.
They make a name for themselves by pretending to be conservative, spouting off a few conservative platitudes. They get rich and fat off it then show their true colors.
They use people to gain power and money but think they are better than everyone but their friends.
“The “Republican Base” is no where near conservative enough. The “base” of the GOP has been shifting left for years.”
I think the #1 job of the stealth Democrat known as a RINO in the leadership of the GOP has been as I’ve posted numerous occasions the redefining of the meaning of Conservatism. It’s seemingly, to me anyway been a cause for them.
They’ve been working at it for a long time.

He has been loosing it for years. But it would be now be accurate to say that he has totally lost it. What God does he worship anyways?
On a happier note, I enjoy playing golf even if I don't play very well at all.
First class hand-wringing from Pat...
Good point.
It got its ass handed to it in the election: 61.1% of the popular vote went to the Democrats, the highest won by a candidate since 1820. The GOP did win 6 States...
The GOP ran John McCain.
The worst POSSIBLE candidate. The GOP did not lose to the dems.
The GOP conceded the race, by nominating such a terrible candidate.
