No..It was passed by the legislature overwhelmingly.
An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexicos citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity.
It means we have addressed pollution concerns, made substantial progress in stopping the spread of disease, and rid our crossings of illicit drug smuggling activity.
Clearly we have a long way to go in addressing those issues."
Sound Byte much?
“President Foxs vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it. An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexicos citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity. It means we have addressed pollution concerns, made substantial progress in stopping the spread of disease, and rid our crossings of illicit drug smuggling activity. Clearly we have a long way to go in addressing those issues. At the same time we must continue to deepen our economic ties, expanding opportunities for Mexican and U.S. companies to do business on both sides of the border. The outlook is promising, even if the road to prosperity is a long one. We share a bond as neighbors, and we find our culture north of the Rio Grande to be increasingly defined by the strong traits of people of Hispanic descent. Texas has long enjoyed a unique identity, an identity forged by an independent spirit, and the convergence of many different peoples. We must welcome change in the 21st Century as we have in every century before it.”
Thank you. I rest my case
and the Texas State law was passed 10 years ago
If Texans didn’t want it, they’ve had 10 years to challenge it
So all the dire predictions about a flood of immigrants rushing to Texas - to get in-state tuition - has been proven not true.
Total costs to Texas AND institutions providing in-state college tuition funding - about $40 million 2004-2008
Total costs of welfare over the same period to illegal immigrants in puiblic schools- not attending college? unk
Total immigrant students college-educated at state tuition rates 2004-2008 @ 12,000, 1% of all Texas college students
Total new college-educated employed taxpayers who have returned the investment by taxes paid - unk

Why am I saying all this?
The PERRY CAMPAIGN needed to get ahead of this.
Yes, I understand as taxpayers we support our universities, my comment was intended to point out they do not get a free ride, but I suspect you knew that. Until the Feds step in these people are here to stay. Do you enjoy subsidizing them for life or would it be better to turn them into taxpayers and make them part of the system? You do understand we already subsidize their primary and secondary education? That is the free ride. Go ahead and irrationally blame Perry for what began long before he arrived on the scene though.
Thank you for your post. I watched Steve Forbes on Fox yesterday morning and he spoke broadly of Perry’s tax plan. He indicated it has been tweaked considerably since Forbes came out with his plan and in his opinion is much fairer and simpler than Cain’s 999 proposal.
How can we turn them into taxpayers if they ILLEGAL and not even eligible to work in the U.S.?? We are educating them to take their skills elsewhere.
What about that whole quote says he’s NOT open borders??? Had the whole quote set the record straight and confirmed he was NOT OPEN BORDERS, then I could see having a hissy fit that the whole thing wasn’t quoted.
So would you agree that Perry is open borders if the conditions were “right”?
You need to kick the source of your info! You are grossly misinformed!
My guess is you’re voting Romney.
Open borders like with Canada..Of course Mexico would have to reinvent itself for that to happen.
Do you not understand he said IF Mexico had an economy where Mexicans would not want to come here to stay..because jobs were available in Mexico...
When drug runners are not coming across..
When disease in Mexico is under control.
He has begged the feds for more help to secure the borders..He wants the border secured..
But you knew all this.
And yet, Perry sure does enjoy cozying up to the illegals in the state to gain favor with their American cousins. Will the real Rick Perry ever stand up, aside from waving his hispandering wet finger in the wind?
Maybe he can publish another book about his reasons for supporting illegals. He still has a couple of months to grow hearts in us mean and nasty conservatives.
You have one opinion..I have another.
Facts are facts. Perry is an illegal coddler to the point that he doesn’t mind spending millions in taxpayer dollars to provide them a college education at the expense of deserving U.S. Citizens needing the same financial aid. That doesn’t square with your opinion.
I agree.
That is an absolute contradiction. Do you see any of them trying to leave? Their families are here. In their minds they “belong” here. To pay in state tuition they must be in the process of rectifying their illegal status so they most definitely will one day be legal taxpayers. Since there is no indication the federal government is going to do a mass deportation, I would personally rather have them support the system from within than spawn another generation of baby creating maids and lawn workers for us to support.
Well, as I said, I’m not particularly impressed by endorsements. Steve Forbes is an exception, as is perhaps Sarah Palin’s endorsement of Rick Perry. Endorsements though, are a dime a dozen during election cycles, and I doubt more than a rare few ever influence the decisions of voters. In a general sense, that renders endorsements unimpressive in my book.
I wouldn't say I am impressed by any endorsement but I do find some interesting; like the Whoraldo Rivera endorsement of Rick Perry. That speaks volumes to me. I would like to know what Perry thinks of it. What do you, A Perry supporter think?
Well, the interesting thing about Cain is that he portrays himself as a Washington outsider. I like Cain, but it’s pretty clear from the record that Cain has had an inside track in DC going back to at least the mid-90’s. The article I linked to goes in to detail, the Forbes connection is just one example.
I can't imagine it either. :)
