BAGHDAD Iraqis fretted about the ability of their armed forces to protect them from violence after U.S. President Barack Obama said on Friday all U.S. troops would withdraw by the end of the year.
Washington and Baghdad failed to agree on the issue of immunity for U.S. forces after months of talks over whether American soldiers would stay on as trainers more than eight years after the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.
Obama's announcement prompted worries among Iraqis over the stability of their country and a possible slide back into sectarian violence.
"Our forces are still not capable of facing our security challenges. I'm afraid this withdrawal will allow al-Qaida and the militias to return," said Baghdad shoe shop owner Ziyad Jabari.

"As an Iraqi citizen, I say to Mr. Obama, you will leave Iraq without accomplishing your mission," said Munaf Hameed, a 47-year-old account manager at a private bank.
"No security, an unstable political regime, sectarian tensions and weak security forces, that's what America will leave behind," he said.

obama wants the money saved for payoffs....
iran is just chomping at the bit....
They could ask the Christians to help...oh wait, they killed and drove them all off. Better luck next time, @ssholes...
Long term it really doesn't matter. The entire mid-East will be a sharia heaven.
We need to stay until the Iraqis achieve complete unity and are 100% ready to completley secure the nation by hemselves.
there will be widespread violence but just like Haiti we’ll never hear nor see another word about Iraq....not the rapes...not the murders...nothing...
Regardless of whether our troops have immunity from prosecution or not?
Don't worry Iraq, Dumbo has told us you'll be fine
Did thier government ask us to leave?
Yeah, pretty much. Their government refuses to come to an agreement for immunity for our soldiers there, exposing each and every one of them to the whims of the local Sharia courts. So leave and screw them. Let them stew in their own juices. This is one of the few Obama dictates with which I agree.
“Regardless of whether our troops have immunity from prosecution or not?”
Well. obviously we would have to secure immunity from prosecution for our troops.
Without such a guarantee of immunity, we would have to pull our troops as none of us want to see US troops put on trial by the Iraqis.
So, who has the pool on how long it will before bloody anarchy or the Iranians take over?
How much is the buy-in?
Obviously. I agree that there is no way we can leave troops there without it. So what would you do to get it from an Iraqi government that doesn't seem open to granting immunity?
The chance’s of winning this pool are much better than the chance’s of winning a lotto.
Give me six months in that pool for $20.00
Obama and Hillary couldn’t get those negotiations for three f...g years..don’t tell me they really wanted this strategic drawdown that the generals wanted to work..
this way they and all the Freepers who say”Oh, the troops didn’t have immunity” can say”Gosh, we just couldn’t work out another strategy, bye bye.”
“So what would you do to get it from an Iraqi government that doesn’t seem open to granting immunity?”
If the Iraqi government is secure and sovereign enough to rule that US troops will not be granted immunity, the Iraqi government is sovereign and secure enough to rule their own country without the aid of US troops.
What other strategy would you propose if immunity is out off the table?
