If you have ever wondered about the governments ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th.
On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).

OOPS... My bad. The birthday wish post should have gone to American in Turkiye! Silly me for not making my brain actually READ the last word in your screen name, apparently didn’t register the “An” at the beginning, either.

SO...what you are saying is that if Obama should try something like martial law and taking over the airwaves or refusing to step down as President should he lose....the true patriots(FReepers and others) need to move immediately to take over every television station that we can?

...The government made the guy into a non person by merely destroying his ID at all levels. His CC would not work and his bank account was closed, no birth record , he was barred from his home, could not work and he had no way to prove who he was. And that's going to end up being Barry's problem when the time comes.

This is not breaking news.
Our main emergency station has been announcing the test for quite sometime now. This is not breaking news.
It it surprises you they CAN do this, then you’ve been living in a cave. You live in denial land that the government cannot control any form of electronic communication from radio & tv to the your personal cellphone to the very computer you are on right now.
This post is not a test.

As one comment says at the main article, don’t use your CB radio during these tests. They want to know who has them.

I just know that EAS units in cable provider headends only react to the alert triggers they are configured for. The newer models receive the trigger and either output a tone and crawl across the bottom of the screen or force tune the digital set top boxes to a specific EIA channel. That is the EIA channel on which the actual message will be broadcast (say channel 3). On cable plant there are two basic formats used for delivery, RF QAM (pronounced kwam) and IP. The simple disconnection of a coax cable or an Ethernet cable will prevent the EAS from broadcasting to the plant.
Over-the-Air broadcasters and radio stations have different requirements. I don’t work in those facilities so I can’t speak to how their EAS system is set up. My comments pertain only to cable operators.

P.S.
This link is an example of a state EAS plan.
It is for the State of Wisconsin
http://www.sbe24.org/eas/MAIN0907.pdf
It is representative of how every state is set up for EAS alerts.

Of all the Presidents this one is least trusted to have such control at his fingertips. This is not good news. what will we do when all radio and television communications cease, in the event of some type of emergency? I understand there possibly could be a time it is useful. Now the programs make announcements and run bulletins and banners across the screen. This is a great deal of power for one person to hold. How would we know what is going on if it happens that all communications were to cease for a time? ... we would not know the cause or purpose. Not a good situation. This happened in Germany prior/during WW11 Isn't election day the 8th?

The disruption lasts 20 seconds, if that....plenty more things to get freaked out about.
It normally just scrolls across the screen anyway.
