MERRILL, Iowa -- Rick Perry often waxes eloquent about his wife Anita as the love of his life, but today in Iowa he disclosed to journalists another "long love affair" that has affected him since he was young.
With guns, that is.
"It was a long love affair with a boy and his gun, that turned into a man and his gun, that turned into a man and his son and his daugher and their guns," an orange-and-khaki-clad Perry said of his relationship with firearms before a pheasant hunting trip in northwestern Iowa.
Perry, who took questions from reporters before the shooting expedition with Iowa Rep. Steve King, called family hunting "part of America" and said that teaching children the safety and the mechanics of firearms is "one of the great American traditions."....

Rick Perry: “We are fed up with being overtaxed and overregulated. We are tired of being told how much salt we can put on our food, what windows we can buy for our house, what kinds of cars we can drive, what kinds of guns we can own, what kinds of prayers we are allowed to say and where we can say them, what political speech we are allowed to use to elect candidates, what kind of energy we can use, what kind of food we can grow, what doctor we can see, and countless other restrictions on our right to live as we see fit.”
I understand the sentiment and feel much the same way but with regard to language and nuance Perry is politically tone deaf. I so much wanted to like and get behind him too -In a way he’s been more of a disappointment than Sarah deciding not to run.
I hate all the candidates.

So this hunt was a political stunt. Fighures. Why invite press to go hunting with you. I despise this guy so much. The biggest fraud I have ever seen. Obama romney and Ricardo are the same.

The pheasant hunt is an annual event honoring Col. Bud Day, a true American Patriot. Congressman Steve King organizes the event and invites who he wants to.

I don’t think I would have worded the above quite the same way, but, I agree with him. The safety and care of your firearm is important.
