The Cain Mutiny

DES MOINES—Herman Cain has captured lightning in a bottle. That's the political cliché for the blast of popularity he's experiencing. But in Iowa, a state that has traditionally rewarded well-organized campaigns, the question is whether Cain is all lightning and no bottle. His supporters and political consultants are trying to get him to spend time and energy in the state, but he has a different plan.

“He really doesn't have much of an organization,” says Jeffrey Jorgensen, the chairman of the Pottawattamie County Republican Party who supports Cain and calls him the “Anti-Obama...

If Cain does well in Iowa, it could upend the entire premise of the caucus process: In order to win in Iowa, candidates must spend time in the state wooing the famously coddled voters with personal appearances and vast organizations.

There is a lot of head-scratching going on among the Republican political class over Cain’s reluctance to come pick up the support that appears to be his for the taking. He is very popular in the state, a finding confirmed by a University of Iowa poll that shows him with 37 percent support, 10 points ahead of Romney. Doing well in Iowa would offer a strong kickoff for his campaign against his better-funded rivals Romney and Rick Perry. The win would bring in money and give him momentum to compete with Romney in New Hampshire and Perry in South Carolina, states where each has advantages...

Cain has been to Iowa 33 times, according to his campaign, which has four staffers in a suite of offices in Des Moines. Voters who have seen him gush about it...

I don’t think Cain is a serious candidate. I wonder if he isn’t a spoiler for Romney.

I watched him announce in Atlanta. I know for a fact he’s a serious candidate. This man has integrity and character...traits that maybe YOU don’t understand, but the rest of us recognize as the sign of true conservative and which denotes the seriousness of his candidacy.

One thing I know for sure and that is he is NOT a spoiler for Romney. Anything BUT.

Pure unadulterated BS (Barbara Striesand)!!! Slate and it’s bloggers are all so infected with the puss of liberalism that they couldn’t even recognize Citizen Cain if they had recently shaken his... hand! That’s it... hand!!!

I agree with you. Cain is a smart dude, a good speaker, a nice guy and what one might call a con artist. But President??

Cain is likely who I will be voting for in the general election, absolutely I would not vote for either of the Romney/Perry twins if the Rockefeller wing succedes in making one of them the Republican nominee. And Ron Paul is an anti-military nutburger.

The subtitle to the article:

"Can Herman Cain win Iowa without campaigning hard there? Iowans hope not."

I don't understand. Is he saying Iowans hope Cain won't win Iowa? Or is he saying they hope he won't win without kissing their rings?

Herman says ideas are more important than money, and we’ve all got our ears on. We don’t have to listen to just the lame stream media hype, anymore. What a time to be alive. Herman can do this on a shoestring, & that’s just how he’ll run the country.

That's just silly. Cain is a spoiler for Perry.

I like many things about Cain, but his 9-9-9 plan in it’s original incarnation sucked, and now it’s already morphing into ???, and now it seems that he is totally confused and self-contradictory on abortion. He’s seeming less and less ready for prime time.

A open letter to Herman Cain Supporters,

What is it with you Cain People? Isn’t it clear by now that your candidate is just Mitt’s stalking horse?

Sure he is up in all the polls, but those polls mean nothing. Besides PMS-NBC and The New York Slimes says Cain is just a poor Minstrel putting on a show for Redneck Racist Terrorist that make up the ‘Teabagger’ party.

Face it there is little difference between the Cain and Mitt, why Cain even supported Mitt in 2008!

Have you Cain people no shame? Does/nt it embarrassed you you that your candidate is little more that Mitt’s errand boy? Everyone knows that even should Cain win with 51% of the delegates he will just turn them over to Mitt.

Clearly you are embarrassing yourself and the Republican Party with your support of a man who is blatantly using the nominating process to sell books and get a nice cushy job on Fox.

How can you take Cain seriously? The man has no money? How can he run a serious campaign when he has no slush fund to pay bribes and hush money from? Why expect any day now Cain will have to start delivering pizzas just to make ends meet.

Sure Cain has a plan, but it’s not a prefect plan and yes its easy to understand and yet you don’t understand that’s part of what is wrong with Cain’s plan! Mitt has shown that a good tax plan can not be printed on anything less than whole forest worth of paper. And that we don’t need to understand a plan, because we will be told what’s in it by our high dollar accountants once its past.

Lastly I must ask you do you Cain supporters know that Cain has horns and a tail?

For the good of the party and the country please help us get Cain out of the race and allow the only person that can beat Barack Obama, (Fill in this Blank) to win the nomination.

Not a liar at all....Cain is PERSONALLY (that means him and him alone) and he is only speaking for himself...In reality he IS pro-choice and what he said couldn’t be clearer.
