Gun owners with permits from 25 states, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to carry their weapons concealed in Wisconsin next month.

The reciprocity list was announced late Thursday by Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen along with an updated set of frequently asked questions at www.doj.state.wi.us/about the new concealed carry law set to take effect Nov. 1.

"This newly created page provides important updates, including a link to the emergency rules, application and training requirements information, and a model certificate to serve as a guide for instructors providing students with proof of training. Permit application forms will be made available online and by mail on November 1, 2011," a Department of Justice announcement read.

The DOJ has also announced Wisconsin will recognize concealed carry permits issued by the following 25 states:

Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

Permits issued by Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands also will be recognized in Wisconsin

No shock about Indiana. We don’t require the training session like many states (Ohio, Utah, etc.) Those states typically won’t offer reciprocity if the other state’s requirements are less than their own.

Wisconsin is tacking in the right direction. Good for Wisconsin. Any kielbasa left? I love that stuff, along with salted German rye rolls and Benedictine.

Yes, Virginia. Heck, unless something changed, Pennsylvania (which is on the list) doesn’t require any training, whereas Virginia does.

I was hoping against hope that Chris Van Hollen (’Rat-MD) had a brief moment of sanity.

Alas....

The reciprocity has to include all states.

I believe my Pennsylvania non-resident permit would do the trick.

With an Ohio resident CHL and PA and NH non-resident permits, I can carry in most states (and who wants to visit Illinois, anyway).

It's dumb that the state DOJ is doing this.

In Iowa permits are issued by the county Sheriffs.

Having the individual counties process them would have split work load into smaller more manageable numbers of applications instead of running all of them through the damned state.

I understand your frustration.

It’s gonna be great when in the near future states will be forced to recognize homo marriage but not ccw permits.

Yep. I agree.
It makes me so mad that the day I can legally CC, I can’t.

Currently have VA, Utah and FL permits. Florida requirement was more extensive than Utah, so I don’t think training is the issue. It may be more political in that states haven’t had time to review requirements of each other and enter into a formal agreement. We should watch the reciprocity list for updates as FL permit is widely recognized and should have been included, although often accepted for firearms only by other states.

My wife purchased a Kel-tec .380 from a private party. We took it to the range. Not impressed. It's the only firearm we've every purchased that was resold in short order. We have a variety from S&W, Ruger, Colt, Magnum Research, Springfield, Taurus, Glock, T/C and SIG. Still have some of the ammo left as it was the only firearm in the family in that cartridge.

If you are determined to get a 380, just get the relatively new Ruger LCP. Everyone I know who owns one is pleased with the purchase, or better yet, get the LCP 9. which is just a similar gun but chambered for 9mm para.
