CNN: Why Did Rick Perry Keep Calling Herman Cain ‘Brother’?
Mediate ^ | October 19, 2011 | James Crugnale

On CNN’s Newsroom this afternoon, anchor Brooke Baldwin observed that at last night’s GOP debate, Rick Perry kept referring to fellow candidate Herman Cain as “brother.” “Did you notice that while you were watching?” Baldwin asked her audience, replaying Perry’s comments.

PERRY: “Herman, I love you, brother, but let me tell you something, you don’t need to have a big analysis to figure this thing out…At the end of the week, I’m going to be laying out a plan that clearly — I’ll bump plans with you, brother, and we’ll see who has the best idea about how you get this country working again.”

I counted two there. Seriously! Let me know,” Baldwin exclaimed. “And here is what a Perry spokesperson said, ‘He is a friendly fellow. He uses that kind of language. And he views all those folks on stage as colleagues, as fellow Republicans and he speaks accordingly.’”

Baldwin questioned CNN political correspondent Mark Preston over Perry’s use of the term.

“As I was watching last night, I definitely made note of that,” Baldwin said. “And I’m sure you did as well.”

“Sure, it’s certainly something the Perry campaign does not want to be talking about right now,” responded Preston. “They want to talk about what they think was a very strong performance for the Texas Governor. We have to be very careful not to characterize what he was saying. They are saying that he meant nothing by that and in fact he’s not racist and what have you. It would be interesting to see what happens if Herman Cain is asked that question and if Herman Cain decides that he doesn’t have a problem with it, then I do think the issue is dead, Brooke.”

This time I said it to him and he turned to me and said “Amen brother”

I have a necklace cross and he is black and I ma white, Is he racist too?

ARF

The media are the true enemy of this country and are pathetic in their bias.
What is even stunning is how they try and tell us that they tell the truth , they report all the news and they are never bias.

YEA RIGHT

That CNN has to ask that question, shows how out of touch and non-Christian the CNN folk are.

I shows how much the in-the-bag-for-Obama MSM wants to plant the word RACIST in the voters minds. And when he wins the nomination, the MSM will nod and say it's a perfect fit because the Tea Party is racist too.

What a bunch of ..

It’s the old “I love you brother BUT...” line. As Pee Wee Herman once said, “Everybody has a big but.”

Why Did Rick Perry Keep Calling Herman Cain ‘Brother’?

Rick thinks he’s Hulk Hogan?

Because they are both Baptist? Because the Biblical Cain killed his brother and he wants to subliminally associate Herman Cain with the evil brother? Because he wants to show that he thinks of a black man as his brother?

Sounds pretty dumb of Perry to only call Cain “brother.” But I didn’t watch.

Well, Newt’s Catholic, y’know. Perry might not regard Catholics as brothers.

Yea, come to think of it Perry's preacher friend doesn't think much of Catholics either. Is there a lot of religious bigotry in Texas?

Too bad the empty suits won’t examine the racial overtones in their anti-Cain comments with the same level of detail.

Does he call everyone “brother?” It is sloppy behavior, in this day and age, for a white man of national prominence to call a black man that.

got called brother off a Christian fella yesterday, he’;s black and I am white.

I said to him have a blessed day and he said Amen brother.

Maybe CNN might need to come to my local BJ’s and ask him if he is a racist too.

what utter crap the media are

How many blacks sit at the desk in front of CNN cameras? (I plead ignorance because I don't watch CNN -- darn near ready to stop watching Fox)

not that it’s a big deal but let’s not fool ourselves he called him brother because Cain is a black man.. Perry doesn’t go around calling anyone else on that stage brother and he doesn’t address Bachman as sister

They called ever black guy they saw, “Brother”.
Did ya notice Perry didn’t call Newt, “Brother”.
///
i strongly disagree. i prefer Cain over Perry.
but, i have never said Perry is stupid, or insensitive, or not a Christian.
criticising Perry for this, is unfair and ridiculous.

...i think it is as many others have said, that they are both evangelical Christians.

as for Newt, he is NOT an evangelical. (Catholic)
...and certainly Romney isn’t. so, this fits.

there’s plenty to criticise Perry for. this ISN’T one of them.
(i just wish the Perry supporters would be as fair, when they make false claims about the “VAT” tax, etc.
Perry treats Cain a lot more honestly and respectfully than Perry supporters...)
