Obama: People Responsible for Fast and Furious 'Will Be Held Accountable'

The people responsible for the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal “will be held accountable,” President Barack Obama pledges during an interview for "Nightline" Tuesday night.

“It’s very upsetting to me to think that somebody showed such bad judgment that they would allow something like that to happen,” Obama told ABC News’ Jake Tapper. “And we will find out who and what happened in this situation and make sure it gets corrected.”

Obama told Tapper, “People who screwed up will be held accountable,” according to a report on ABCnews.com in advance of the broadcast.

His comments came on the day that the Senate voted to block funds for any similar operation in the future.

It also came as a fourth Republican congressman, freshman Allen West, called for the resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder for his role in the fatally flawed scheme which saw hundreds of assault weapons fall into the hands of violent Mexican drug cartels.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, West said Holder “definitely could be complicit in what could be criminal actions.” The Florida representative added, “He should do the honorable thing and resign and take full responsibility for what has happened.”

Obama’s comments show that pressure from Republican investigators led by House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa of California and Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa is paying off.

Last week, Issa subpoenaed hundreds of documents to discover how high in the administration knowledge of the scheme went. He has accused Holder of failing to cooperate in the investigation.

Obama and Holder will screw this up. They are going to attempt to hang somebody out to dry on this, and that person will be in possession of evidence of WH involvement.

“The people responsible for the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal “will be held accountable,” President Barack Obama pledges”

Does that mean the lying little punk Obama is going to plead guilty to felony charges and put himself in jail?

I would have loved to have seen the weak and cowardly interviewer ask Obama if he was willing to testify under oath about his knowledge and involvement in the operation. I would have loved to have seen Obama asked if he would release all the documents related to the operation that his administration has withheld.

Still more drivel from the Driveler-in-Chief. He will sacrifice everyone else, including Holder, to save his own neck. And the media will let him.

Translation of Obama’s remarks. We’ve picked out a few mid level flunkies you’ve never heard of to throw under the bus. Now, I don’t want to hear any more from you guys in the Press.

The Florida representative added, “He should do the honorable thing and resign and take full responsibility for what has happened.”

Whoa, stop, waitaminute.

What if the "full responsibility" belongs a little higher up?

..or has a larger lateral spread at the Cabinet level? Or both?

I don't want Holder to just fall on his sword to save the rest, I want accountability for all involved from whatever department--from the Oval Office down.

Let the chips fall where they may.

But will they go to jail? And would they if it turned out that Holder and Obama were among them?

Yeah. The metaphorical Ship of State is decks awash and sinking, and the captain has given the order to lighten the load by tossing a few lower-ranking enlisted men over the side.

I don't think Obama ever imagined this could go this far, and he certainly hasn't thought this through. Talk about telegraphing the wrong signal to your remaining troops.

Holder et al have just received notice they better lawyer up and make the best deal they can, and that may be grim news for ole' Jug Ears...

Let’s see: Truman said the “Buck Stops Here” and Dear Leader wants to be this century’s Truman..don’t think so...try less golf, fewer vacations, eliminate Wednesday night bashes, and get to work before 9:30, quit continuous campaigning, have some cabinet meetings, get rid of the worthless czars...then you might have time to check out a few things...just saying.
