Rick Perry: Time to consider defunding United Nations
CBS News ^ | Oct 18, 2011 | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 10/18/2011 8:03:53 PM PDT by Clairity

Republican presidential candidate and Texas governor Rick Perry said Tuesday that "it's time for us to have a serious discussion about defunding the United Nations."

After saying "I think it's time for this country to have a very real debate about foreign aid," he turned to the U.N., pointing to the Palestinian statehood push in order to criticize the organization.

"When you think about the Palestinian Authority circumventing those Oslo Accords and going to New York to try to create the conflict and to have themselves approved as a state without going through the proper channels is a travesty," he said. "And I think it's time not only to have that entire debate about all of our foreign aid, but in particular the U.N. Why are we funding that organization?"

what is interesting is to look at the graphs of Cain, Perry, and Romney on Intrade during the debate.

Romney dropped like a rock, Cain drifted down, and Perry spiked up.

Always watch the money, it tells you the truth of what happened.

Get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US.

One of his better lines tonight. He’s improving his image. Expect a rise in his poll numbers this week, as much as 10 percent.

But Wait, its a Texan that's speaking

So, you think that Texans in general are liars who can't be taken at their word. Such a comment says more about you than it does about Texans.

Seriously... can't you come up with a more sophisticated retort than that?

finally someone sticks it to the UN!

He said "discussion about defunding the United Nations", not "I will defund the United Nations if elected".

I wish the fictional tea party raging conservative image that Rick Perry projects is what he was really like cause I’d support that Rick Perry.

Unfortunately he’s really a namby pampy, big government friendly, establishment hack.

“Grasping at straws, where does he want to build an invisible fence, man is done, someone take the fork out. “

It’s a virtual fence so it doesn’t really exist.

“Did you notice Bachmann was the only one who said she would build an entire fence? Cain and Romney sidestepped and actually gave half hearted versions of Perry’s proposal. “

I’d like to see the Minnesota congresswoman’s plan to cover the entire Rio Grande. The smart answer would be to stick to completing the 700 mile fence that is required by the secure border act that Bush signed into law.

“Defunding the UN” is just a heaping serving of Bubba Bait from the illegal alien patron Perry. Just crap to say once or twice at primary debates.

“Romney dropped like a rock, Cain drifted down, and Perry spiked up.”

I think Cain’s turning out to be the same candidate we expected him to be when he didn’t know what the law of return was. But if he pushes Perry to move off his rear end then he will have served a vital role.

Finally, we have a true man of courage with strong economic ability, military and National Security experience, and our own kind are out to destroy him.

It makes no sense.

I know Perry well. Rick Perry was NEVER on his rear. He was being an adult, giving all due respect and conducting himself with honor. Now, he clearly sees the enemy (Romney) and has stepped up his level of tactical approach.

And in that respect, I must say, WATCH OUT! You ain't seen nuthin’ yet!

I must be heartless, but even this better-rehearesed illegal alien patron didn’t impress me. Still sounds stupid. Cannot imagine him sharing half the allotted time in a debate with Obama.

Newt.

Following a principle spoken of at this last debate... Why should we other 49 states dump that stinkin’ mess on Georgia! LOL

Bachmann has some good knowledge but she never takes a breath and her appeal to the "moms losing their homes" was kinda lame.

Boy, speaking of MB and her answer to the foreclosures in Nevada, I didn't get that answer of hers at all. I KNOW she would not go for the Obama kind of government mortgage bail outs, but I was freaking out when she was telling the moms to not worry... she would take care of things. Now again, I KNOW Michele Bachmann would not do any kind of government intervention like that, so her entire comment there was just freaky to me.

OK, I’ll follow suit.

Here were my impressions.

Perry: Similar thought here. I think Perry must have decided to show a fire in his belly to prove he wanted this nomination and was willing to work for it. The more aggressive nature he presented tonight showed a personal determination. He also sounded in control and undaunted. I do have to admit, having learned my English in a more northern state (and sometimes I still speak REALLY fast), Perry’s breaks in the middle of many sentences were noticeable, but nothing that was real problematic. All in all, he spoke very well tonight.

Mitt: Did very poorly tonight. With each passing jab from the various candidates, his words became more quickly spoken and his mouth tightened to the point that he even mispronounced a couple of sentences. He did not do well under so much fire.

Newt: Great as usual but not the classic “Newt” as we’ve seen in previous debates. Still, his knowledge rose yet again to the highest standards. He did seem to be on a somewhat different stand on the nuclear waste question than all the others, or was I wrong in that understanding?

Bachmann: Did well with answers (with the exception of a somewhat odd answer to the NV foreclosure question), and her persona did not seem as tight tonight. She seems very genuine and very intelligent. The “Anderson, Anderson” callings during other candidate’s answers did not show really well, but I’m not holding that against her too much since the moderator Anderson Cooper was probably more to blame for the bantering back and forth that was occurring. MB has also looked much better in both this and the last debate. She got away from some of her campaign workers apparently that made her hair look stiff and her face look like Tammy Faye Baker. MB looked wonderful tonight, professional but not fakey at all. She was the old Michele Bachmann we all know and love.

Paul: He is proving to be a quite funny person. The joke about going over the fed’s head (or whatever it was he said) was downright funny. Ron Paul is FUNNY! Who knew that? :) I’m glad he is still there to give some punches, and he gives punches to all of them from time to time. Like Rick Santorum said once... Ron Paul is wrong a lot, but a lot of the time he’s right.

Cain: Had to deal with a lot tonight. It must be hard to be criticized and unmercifully lambasted by every single candidate on the stage, and the bulk of it all happened in the first ten minutes or so of the debate. He handled the jabs there fairly well though, and even I understood the apples to oranges analogy he used for the national and state taxes, so he must have made that point clear. His earlier CNN interview where he said there he would release Gitmo prisoners in a hostage negotiation with Al Queda seemed damaging, but he did say during the debate he didn’t mean that. We’ll see if that situation becomes a problem for Mr. Cain or not.

Santorum: I think this was probably Rick Santorum’s best debate. He looked confident. He spoke confidently. He spoke boldly about the strength of families and set the idea of the best foundation of America being families across the land. He surprised me when he began the debate with such a feisty aggressiveness, especially going straight for Herman Cain as he did. He may not be pulling much in the polls, but tonight, he sure didn’t act like he was anything other than a top tier candidate.

Overall: Was very frustrated by this debate’s permissive atmosphere of yelling back and forth at each other and continued back and forth 30 second responses. I’m ready to hear the candidates get a little more time to actually SAY something about the issues at hand. Come on, can we at least give everyone 3 minutes or so to answer something by this point?
