Herman Cain acknowledges his electric border fence idea isn't a joke after all
CBS News ^ | October 17, 2011 | Sarah Huisenga

Posted on 10/18/2011 4:39:29 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

PHOENIX - After first apologizing for suggesting an electric fence along the border, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told reporters here Monday that he still thinks it's a good idea for controlling illegal immigration.

"I'm not walking away from that," he said.

Cain has spent the last several days explaining a controversial comment about building an electrified fence along the U.S. - Mexico border that he said could kill people trying to enter the country illegally. On Sunday, he said his comments were "a joke." But talking to reporters here after a meeting here with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has made a national reputation for cracking down on illegal immigrants, Cain reversed course.

Initially Cain apologied when told his remarks had upset some in the state. "Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa," he said, using the Latin formula for expressing contrition. But when a reporter challenged his description of his comments, saying he didn't seem to be telling a joke, the retired pizza executive acknowledged: "You're right." He said he still believes in the need for a border fence "and it might be electrified."

Apparently Giuliani is viewed as more scummy around here. Mittbots weren’t zotted in 2008, but obnoxious Giuliani supporters were zotted en masse.

I can’t stand Romney, but he at least appears to live a somewhat moral life. He never tried to kick his family out of the governor’s mansion, anyway.

At this stage, I'd rather have Rudy
No surprise there

Now hold on just a minute. As the FIRST poster to seize on that statement, I'm going to walk my initial comments back to place NYC-Conserv's comment in context, i.e., he was comparing the relative uselessness of Romney with that of Rudy, which as he said in another post "they both suck", and I erred (as did you Prokopton) in automatically assuming that we were dealing with a long forgotten RudyBot from the Bug Zapper Wars. That is NOT the case here.

Since I opened the original can o' worms, I'm attempting to get the worms back in the can. (which reminds me of a hilarious story for another time)

Yeah, but he put the family's Irish Setter into a dog carrier and tied him to the roof rack of their station wagon for a 12 hour drive from Boston to Ontario, instead of putting LUGGAGE in the roof rack and letting the dog ride inside the car with THEM. That ain't moral, in fact it's bloody stupid.

Then there is that magic underwear business...

Perrybots are worse than the Perry disease.

Maybe Merck has a vaccine for "Perry-tonitis?"

Heck, if Merck can medicate little girls' genitals, there's gotta be a way to innoculate against Perry disease (/snix).

I challenged you and your cohorts to come up with one substantive post citing Cain’s stands and virtues.

You didn’t because you can’t.

If you can, repost it.

All you can do is repeat the tiresome and untrue posts about Perry being an open borders, illegal friendly guy.

I’m not throwing a boogie man (if you mean Mitt)... I’m advancing a real possibility of a Cain/Mitt conspiracy.

You can dismiss it if you like, but you gotta admit, it scares you a little.

I hope that post is not indicative of your true self because it is beyond ugly.

Are you sick? I believe we can leave little girls off this thread.

Another silly response. Congrats. That makes, what? Well, a whole bunch.

You cannot cite a single virtue of Cain’s known action or vote.

He’s done a lot of talking, trying to stir things up and has succeeded.

But then he backtracks. The last word of flipflop is flop and Cain my do just that.

By the way, have you happened to notice that this thread, which I believe started out to be Cain’s second change of mind about the border fence... has totally turned into an anti-Perry thread?

Why are you Cain people so afraid of Perry?

And why have you made no effort to defend him against the double flip-FLOP?

That is my point. I voted for McCain because of Sarah Palin. But nobody could have called me a MCain supporter.

We do not want to destroy the country with illegals, perry does. That and Perry's cronyism, but his 2 % and going down poll standing, will soon finish him, he needs to give up, go home and take the beating from the little woman.

Why are you Cain people so afraid of Perry?

More delusional thinking on your part. We frankly don't like the man's politics, believe he's to the left of where we want the country to go, and don't want his pro-amnesty beliefs in the WH. Period. It's not fear; it's dislike. But, then I'm a heartless person. 'Nuff said.

I didn't assume anything. This is what was posted

Cain supported Romney!!! At this stage, I’d rather have Rudy

I interpreted it as he would rather have Rudy than Cain. You can interpret that as you you think best.

Well, fine, but all I’m saying is that instead of making any attempt to defend your boy Cain for his vacillating on his fence thing, every single post (almost) has been from you people about Perry.

For some reason, you want to believe every negative thing you’ve ever heard about Perry (mostly from each other) and that’s all you can think about.

Most of the criticisms of him are untrue or wildly exaggerated.

Something has tapped into a hatred of Mexicans that I didn’t know was so deep seated around here. I wish I didn’t know it now.

If anyone of you wishes to deny that you take every post about Cain and turn it into an anti-Perry post, well that will be a reach.

Perry is a good man, a conservative, he has a proven record, he’s great on social issues, he’s religious, he’s taken a state full of Mexicans, legal and illegal and this state is still conservative, business friendly and prosperous.

So instead of giving this man some well deserved props, you turn to a person who has no record of public service at all and who seems to be a bit of a gasbag, albeit saying things you want to hear.

You just repeat the same old lies and nastiness about Perry and get mad if someone tries to tell you the truth.

I just can’t wait for the true Cain to come out and hear all the mea culpas (as he put it) from you people who have viciously attacked Perry and me. And we’re both dang good people.

I see nothing to defend Cain for. And apparently, judging by the polls, neither does the public in general.

Rudy over Cain? Hahahaha

Someone criticized Perry for supporting Rudy in ‘08
I said Cain supported Romney in ‘08, so what’s the difference... In fact, Romney is worse than Rudy.

I said I’d rather have Rudy over Romney (but both suck)

I’m for Perry, but in order of preference, it’s Perry, Newt, Cain, Santorum... The rest can go suck an egg, including Bachmann

So you didn’t feel the need to defend him for his flip-flopping on the fence?

Well, okay then.
