WASHINGTON— Newt Gingrich is calling Republican presidential campaign rival Mitt Romney "a Nelson Rockefeller Republican" who will have a hard time appealing to the GOP's base.

I could barely tolerate a true Rockefeller Republican. The problem is that Mitt Romney is a Teddy Kennedy Republican, and anyone who cares about America should recognize that this means Mitt is a liberal and not what we need to regain freedom. I would like to toss the current communist out of our White House, but only if we can replace him with someone who will make things better by cutting government back. If Romney gets nominated by the party leadership, despite several better candidates being more popular, I will write in a conservative. No more lesser of two evils; that led to today’s problems.

Cain, or for that matter any candidate’s first and only job is to sell themselves to the voting public.
I support Cain as long as he looks ahead, and not to the side, or back. It’s what separates the leaders from the also rans........intercine sniping is a sign of a follower/loser.

I have never seen/heard anything from her to indicate any major diversion from conservatism. Maybe she ain’t a libertarian but.....
Not if I recall correctly. George Romney's downfall as a presidential candidate in '68 was precipitated by his famous remark, "I was brainwashed," referring to what generals told him during a visit to the war zone in Vietnam.
Rockefeller and George Romney were both considered to be "moderate to liberal" Republicans, which nowadays would be termed RINOs. They were both three term governors of their respective states (Rockefeller served part of a fourth term in New York) and their terms overlapped.
So as the RINO in the current race, Mitt is kind of inheriting his father's legacy.
Nixon beat George Romney by flanking him on the right regarding Vietnam.
George was quoted as saying “I’d never let anyone beat me by going right again.”
Romney, Jr. -— who has done a 180 degree turn from his pro-abortion, pro-everything liberal record -— obviously has taken his father’s lesson to heart -— which is why he fakes being a conservative now (although Myth is not smart enough not to make repeated slips).
I propose Donald Rumsfeld for most fun ever Press Secretary. Since they’re both kind of getting up there, we’ll have them alternate days in front of the gaggle.
George Romney is the example you find in the textbooks, but like father like son.
Bet you didn't know that it was the Rockefellers that donated that land on the East River bank to the UN? How one world RINO can you get?

I already lost a lot of respect for him over the divorces and remarriages. But this is kind of a no-class move on Gingrich's part.
Not because he attacked Romney (there's a lot of validity in what Newt said), and not because he had worked for Rockefeller 43 years ago himself (though there are people who will say that in his own way, Newt's been a kind of "Rockefeller Republican" ever since), but because he didn't let his own past stand in the way of a cheap shot.
He didn't think, "I can't go with the knee-jerk label here, because I actually was one of the original Rockefeller Republicans myself -- I've got to take a different route." Makes him look petty, desperate, hypocritical, and out of it.
Or maybe it's just really funny ...
I would vote for Newt over Obama. I posted that comment in anger. I met Newt last fall at a fundraiser for Walker, even had my picture taken with him, and he was the rudest jerk I have ever met.
But I would vote for him although I doubt that will be an option.

Romney was widely derided as the “brainwash candidate” — he started out a lib pubbie, calling the Democrat War in Vietnam “reprehensible”, then went there, met with the generals, and came back saying maybe it was not so bad after all. Then he flopped again, and made the “brainwashed” statement. One of the generals supposedly said (and this is probably an unfounded anecdote), “in Romney’s case, a light rinse would have done the trick”.
But then again in this day and age a lot of people will simply take something that sounds derogatory and adjust their opinions accordingly, without really understanding it's true meaning or if the criticism is warranted.
What did he do?

And the grandfather bit was exactly what I had in mind when I came up with that.
Mitt flipped flopped on everything but this time he isn’t making an effort to fake being conservative very much, he seems content with relying on the RINO vote to win the nomination.
His dad blew it with his stupid remark. It was the Dean scream of it’s day.
I think Mitt clearly has a daddy complex. I kinda see a Joe Kennedy parallel with George and Mitt.
