Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countrys border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...
Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops with real guns and real bullets on the border to stop illegal immigration.
The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.
Its going to be 20 feet high. Its going to have barbed wire on the top. Its going to be electrified. And theres going to be a sign on the other side saying, It will kill you Warning. At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written in English and in Spanish.
This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors, Mr. Cain said at the second rally. We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And were going to shut off the back door so you dont have to sneak into America.

Nice try, but you are wrong.
Now if 43% want immigration in general decreased, you can bet they are more adamant about illegal migration.
“solid tough love”
Let’s just fry ‘em.
There is frustration..but I really don’t see this as being the answer.
Mr. Cain is a good man. I feel he is reacting to the media.
(Darn, I said I was off this thread..but I can’t help myself.:))
A waste totally of power.
Just place thousands of landmines and spiked trenches. PLUS motion-sensor machine guns.
This pc crap is garbage.
My objection to Perry mandating the vaccine is a philosophical one. It’s not the government’s bloody place to mandate it.
I have no real problems with Perry....other than that he’s come off like a stammering dope in the debates. But on the Gardisil thing he was wrong, wrong, wrong.
Hank
“It has always been my point of view that the Mexican Gov is at fault for all of the pointless pain on both sides of this issue.”
Yea, but we have to deal with our problem right now.
“Mexico is as wealthy in natural resources and land as America is, yet they deny their people.”
Agree (finally).
“I would like to have a private chat with Perry on the matter and a separate private chat on the matter with Cain, so as to separate the truth from the crap.”
That’s fine...but as long we lock-down the border, I’m good.
“As of now, Cain seems to be shooting from the lip.”
He’s running for office and he’s LISTENING to the base and even a lot of Democrats. What’s really bothering people is that he’s talking about solutions, rather than repeating the promises and the policies of the past. And he really doesn’t give a crap about what the Mexican government thinks of us. Very similar to the Cold War with our presidents up to Reagan. They all were very careful not to anger the USSR...Reagan told it like it was, and we’re all much better off for it - including the Russian people.
“For many this isn’t about illegal immigration per se.”
No, it’s about illegal immigration.
Not per se.
“Now if 43% want immigration in general decreased, you can bet they are more adamant about illegal migration.”
Exactly, and we’re over 700 posts on this thread tonight.
Yes, I would say illegal immigration is certainly NOT a non-issue this year.
You ever buzzed any of them Coyotes?
They set up on hills with communications so they can over see the area and route the pollos when they see BP in the area. *BP is over in this sector, move over in the other corridor*
They’ll take shots at ya LoL
The drug runners are worse.
Are you not really stretching it a wide mile to say the terrain on the Texas border is like the Grand Canyon???? AND I do not suggest the 'terrain' is like the plains across Kansas. What I am hearing is all manner of excuses because some people just flat out do NOT care who crosses our borders.... NORTH or SOUTH. I know human nature and IT serves NO good purpose to continue to willingly ignore, even to the point of sending out unofficial invitations to come here. Perry signed the legislation to allow undocumented illegals college entrance. Now how anyone can take that signature as border security is out to lunch.
I do NOT care if the legislation was veto proof. Play politics with national security on a state level does not build a national resume. Because NOW Perry as president is going to have to enforce the LAW that returns to country of origin all these he help to earn college degrees. I have NO reason to believe he will govern as president any differently than he has governed as governor.... His own snarky words expose the kind of president he will be, welcome mat for illegals. Just another politician needing conservative 'law and order' votes also called morals voters. I am SICK of being used by politicians to serve themselves to reside at a gated house at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, while they hang the rest of US out to dry.
So basically, you could care less about private lands along the river..... you are no better than the OWS people who only think about me, me, me..... and that is the biggest problem with this country today... all group think and me, me, me... they clearly have stopped teaching critical thinking in our school system.
These lands cannot be all that 'private' IF they are being used as the invasion highways. Excuse me, are you not referring to a 'few' ranchers and their 'water' in the me me me... while the rest of US are required to 'feed', 'house', 'educate' (by liberal school masters), and 'heal' at the local emergency rooms...
What part of the TEA PARTY do you NOT get.... NO 'taxation' (or mandates) WITHOUT representation... See Mr. Perry is going to have a really tough time asking for TEA PARTY votes, because he is all about 'taxation/mandates' without representation.
Don't forget to add shrill, paranoic and hyperventilated. This same phenomenon happened during the last presidential campaign where a small ratball of rabid FReepers spammed, shilled and muscled McCain on the community at large (and we all know how that debacle turned out).
“Exactly the same idea that the Israelis use on their southern border right now.”
Really?
Israel is facing a crisis of ceasing to exist.
Is that the same solution that you propose for us?
Thank you, Perry Supporter, for showing us how to cease to exist!
They are also the meanest people I’ve ever met on FR. It’s for that reason alone that I will never vote for Perry or see that his whining wife gets into the east wing of the White House. If this is the way Perry’s people conduct business now, what will they be like when they achieve ultimate power?
As usual, an excellent post.
But I fear people that don’t live in rural communities will “get it”.
I believe that’s 38% hispanic, but I gather your drift
“Lets just fry em.”
I’m not into that crap. The purpose of the voltage is to keep them from using the 35 foot ladders that Perry thinks they’ll carry to fence. Ever try carrying a 35 foot wood (or fiberglass) ladder? Yes, a few idiots might fry, but as I said elsewhere, many more die in the Arizona desert every year trying to get in. Those people would be saved...less dead Mexicans in the end.
“There is frustration..but I really dont see this as being the answer.”
Understandable. Even NASA couldn’t see how to get to the moon in 1962 (or so).
“Mr. Cain is a good man. I feel he is reacting to the media.”
Nope. He is reacting to the base. Even a lot of the nasty comments that I’ve seen on this thread I hear at work all the time. Securing the border is mainstream America. The media would just love this issue to go away, as it did in 2008.
(Darn, I said I was off this thread..but I cant help myself.:))
I hear you...it is getting late and others are still after me too.
Adding a few names that might be interested to the ping and continuing the conversation from #490, 567,660. Let me know if you want me to stop pinging you.
BobL said in #682, “”Well they got a crappy lawyer if he thinks the Patriot Act supersedes the 5th Amendment. In other words, I dont buy it.””
Bob, you obviously didn’t read the article I referred to. Here’s the link, again.
http://www.samuellogan.com/articles/texans-fence-with-federal-authorities.html
Tell that to the city of Eagle Pass, who also lost their battle - the fence goes through the city park, but not the industrial park.
The main complaint, after the inefficiency of a fence that will only delay crossing for 4 minutes, is the arbitrariness and what appears to be favoritism - or at least the lack of defensible reasoning behind where the fence is going.
http://www.utexas.edu/law/clinics/humanrights/work/Border-Wall-right-to-property.pdf
Some of these sections of fence stop at country club boundaries and at the property line of land owned by Ray Hunt and his businesses.
The University of Texas at Brownsville did win the right to negotiate a plan to put the fence through the middle of the campus. Now, it’s only part way through.
Oh how I remember the lord McCain ....... I placed periods to contain my tongue. I to this day recoil when I seem some of them still here posting their brilliance.
And it does have the same 'feeling' as that political campaign...
“They are also the meanest people Ive ever met on FR. Its for that reason alone that I will never vote for Perry or see that his whining wife gets into the east wing of the White House. If this is the way Perrys people conduct business now, what will they be like when they achieve ultimate power?”
They certainly are that at the state level here in Texas. You are getting a VERY GOOD taste of what Perry people are.
I’m going to freepmail you the html for that graph so you can post it whenever you need it, to refute the lies of those that say illegal migration is not an issue this election cycle.
Negative,
Every Hispanic I work is on the conservative side of the issue, but I don't antagonize them with crap like electric fences, machine guns and such.
And Illegal Hispanics sure wont vote democratic, because Perry passed VOTER ID
