Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countrys border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...
Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops with real guns and real bullets on the border to stop illegal immigration.
The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.
Its going to be 20 feet high. Its going to have barbed wire on the top. Its going to be electrified. And theres going to be a sign on the other side saying, It will kill you Warning. At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written in English and in Spanish.
This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors, Mr. Cain said at the second rally. We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And were going to shut off the back door so you dont have to sneak into America.

Well, here is a plan. Arrest all illegals that are currently in the country. Convict them to 6 months of labor on the fence construction. The border is about 2,000 miles long. If your dragnet catches only 1 million illegals then you can have 500 workers per mile, or one worker every four yards - for 6 months. Tell the workers that they are free to go (to Mexico :-) once the fence is built and accepted. I'm sure they will be done within a week.
The fence will have watch towers, two per mile. The towers will be bulletproof, air-conditioned, and manned 24/7 by snipers. The fence will also have various sensors to notify the guards. The task of those guards will be to discourage crossers. The fence will be built entirely on the US territory, set back about 300 yards of "no man's land." Anyone in that zone will be fair game - so they can't bring the equipment and set up camp on Mexico's side while they are preparing the crossing. If a large, armed group is attempting to cross using armored vehicles or shoots back then the guards will call air support. Some of that can be delivered using missiles; as long as the missiles are accurately guided - to, say, a couple of yards - this will keep the invaders busy until the helicopters show up.
None of that is rocket science. USSR maintained even a tighter border for most of its existence. Their border was also much tougher geographically, and it had to prevent crossing from either direction, and it had to catch even single, well prepared crossers. It worked. The proposed US fence will require 2 guards per mile (4,000 guards at any time) working in 4 shifts (making it total 16,000 guards.) Additional forces will be shared and conveniently positioned for a quick response. The guards can be civilian LEOs or "a well regulated Militia," not necessarily the army.
Someone needs to remind these “indies” that more dead possums are found in the middle of the road that anywhere else.
Maybe a nice (no injuries) fender bender in your favorite ride with an uninsured unlicensed illegal alien would help your logic a bit.
I have seen a fence like this before. It was on the border of East Germany, and I saw it from the West Germany side.
I seem to recall, The Berlin Wall worked pretty well.
Would you want to NOT put up a sign warning people?
So we cut our selves of from water in a state that is suffering a horrible drought?
“Rick chesks with his mega donors (builders, poultry producers, people like that) and does what they want.
They get cheap illegal alien labor. Illegals get a lot of goodies including in-state tuition. The Perry family gets all sorts of free stuff (luxury vacations, Rose Bowl trips, etc.) and taxpaying Americans get the shaft. “
That is EXACTLY the bottom line, and we are SICK OF IT here in Texas.
“Yeah, were clear. Neither me or Cain have a chance to be elected President. If he said that, hes a nut- a real, honest to goodnes lunatic.”
I think we’re pretty much on to your anti-Cain guys. If he said that he uses the toilet after waking up, you’d have a problem with that.
Hermain Cain
The “Gimmick Candidate”.
Everything is so simple-minded with this guy... So basic
Can’t believe so many of you other-wise politically savvy folks fall for his simplistic Ideas
Really? Tell that to the drug cartels.
Aviation, drones and boots on the ground is what Perry has been requesting for years for the rural areas. Fences in the urban areas.
Sounds like he’s “shooting from the lip” to me.
There's a huge difference between using a fence to impound your own people, and using a fence to keep foreigners out. It's like the difference between a prison, and security doors at an apartment building. (Just don't build one of those on your northern border, please.)
“Yes, we’ve a problem with illegals and something needs to be done. Erecting a Soviet or Nazi style barrier is not the answer, nor is it American. “
How quaint. And naive. Actually, Cain’s proposal is as American as, well, a white picket fence. Nobody is advocating killing innocent people, and making that leap of logic is absurd.
Amen.
As to the Narco terrorist, they get what they deserve.
No, Perry never said that. You are stating that as a fact, so put up or shut up.
Authority is spelled: B 52. Buff can rain on your parade.
“You arent paying for anything Rick Perry has done.
You are paying for what Ted Kennedy and the federal Gov have done.”
I live in TEXAS, I don’t need for you to be telling me I’m not paying for anything RICK PERRY does. We sure as hell are...in lots and lots of ways (including a Houston police officer that was shot because Perry allows Sanctuary Cities).
Lets do it on YOUR LAND WITH YOUR MONEY
