What he means is that in terms of money raised, organizations in place in early-voting states and policy proposals in the pipeline, everything is on track.
On Friday, Perry delivered his first major policy speech, outlining a series of executive actions that would accelerate exploration and production of domestic energy resources and create, he said, more than a million jobs. The next speech, scheduled for Oct. 25, will outline his plan for the economy, which has been a big hole in his message.
After the economic speech, Perry will tackle border security, foreign policy and government reform. The package of speeches, campaign officials hope, will do what the debates have not done, which is to flesh out Perry's profile as a conservative governor with the ideas and leadership qualities to be president.
In other words, the campaign that Perry's team hoped to run from the beginning will be able to start in earnest. He may have dug himself a deep hole with the four debates he's been in so far, but here in Austin, there is more defiant determination than pessimism in the concrete-walled command post.

Who cares about what?
The link shows the assertion that Perry does well in one on one interviews is ludicrous.
Try and keep up with the conversation if your going to post, it will save you some embarrassment.
TF, I am concerned you have gone the way of running to simple poll results. Don’t you care about fiscal conservatism?
Cain’s 999 plan will add a new federal line of revenue to the federal government so federal politicians can pick and chose people to get entitlements through the empowerment zones of the 999 program.
Are you REALLY that liberal that you would support someone who would promote federal tax and spend programs?
It makes it even WORSE that Rich Lowrie, the 999 architect said they were going to “fix” the 999 plan so that low income minorities would not have to pay as much of the federal tax, and maybe pay none at all. They are not sure whether to tax those low income individuals at 3%, 2%, or 0% yet, so we’ll need to wait and see how much less they pay (if any at all), but we SURE now know Cain’s empowerment zone programs of the 999 program will give our new line of federal taxation revenue to people that live in low income minority neighborhoods.
Conservatives shouldn’t want new lines of tax revenue to just give to the federal government for federal social welfare benefits, and they shouldn’t want the federal government making decisions for more benefits to whatever special groups the federal government chooses to “take care of”.
Cain’s empowerment zone programs in the 999 plan are liberal tax and spend projects, and no conservative should be supporting this, no matter the poll numbers.
At the time it passed, the Texas legislature was nearly unanimous on this one. Since then, around a dozen states have done the same thing.
If Texans are truly angry, they should petition their rep. To my knowledge, there has been no legislation vetoed by Perry changing the law.
It truly is a non-issue to most people. The anti-illegal fervor is only felt among a small number of people nationwide and will have zero impact in the general, but has a big strain on the far right, which happens to be Republican primary voters in the south.
And for me, fighting for fiscal conservatism is worth the fight.
We never gave in on our fight against more federal spending when we were dealing with TARP, and we did not give up fighting against raising the federal debt ceiling.
Conservatives need to rise up and now stand against creating new lines of federal tax revenue slated for federal entitlement programs.
Anyone who considers themselves fiscally conservative, no matter who you support, should stand up and say you will at least not support this progressive federal entitlement policy!
I like that picture! The energy President.
Isn’t it great? Students for Rick Perry did that picture. They said for us to feel free to use it any and every place. After his phase 1, energy/job plan it fits perfect.
I didn’t even look at your link because I know what it is.
It is Perry looking befuddled that he cant convince some liberal jackass that abstinence is a viable way to prevent teen pregnancy.
He could have talked sense all day long and never convinced that guy.
Plus, Cains 999 plan is contingent on “The Super Committee”
I don’t think a panel of 12 hand selected jackholes is what the founding fathers had in mind when they formed a representative Gov.
I heard him say something like that too somewhere recently, and it floored me! To make a 12-person super committee a regular replacement for Congress is absolutely ludicrous!
If any conservative wants to support Cain, they had at least better wake their fiscal conservative principles up and start fighting against his push for a new line of federal tax revenue (one of those 9s) which will be used for federally-directed empowerment zone benefits for people who live in low income minority neighborhoods.
Stand up for fiscal conservatism, and stand up for our Constitutional form of federal government.
A 12-person federal "super committee" overseeing expanded federal tax and spend programs through federal empowerment zones is not what any conservative should have in mind!
Perry I like ya but you’re wrong the fence. Cain has the right idea on that issue.
Perry I like ya but you’re wrong the fence. Cain has the right idea on that issue.
Talking about the ideas in it, riodacat.
They are ideas that every repub candidate needs to adopt
If Texans are truly angry, they should petition their rep. To my knowledge, there has been no legislation vetoed by Perry changing the law.
Not only was there no "veto", a bill to repeal the instate tuition brought up this latest legislative session received only two voice votes.
Just because it was unanimously passed in TX doesn’t mean the rest of the country would be in favor of it. I understand why he did it and it isn’t one of the things that’s a deal breaker for me as long as he will aggressively enforce federal law. However, if it was a non issue to everyone then it wouldn’t be the topic of conversation or one of the problems people have with Perry. He definitely didn’t help himself by calling people who disagree “heartless” and he did a terrible job of explaining it.
The one reason that makes it extremely difficult to support him is his breaking a promise to his state that he wouldn’t run for president is they reelected him. He emphasized this over and over again. The reason this bothers me is it goes to his character and regardless of his wife “talking him into it” his promise to his state should override any ambition she or he should have for his political career.

Perry is a “Clip-on” Christian.
When Christian is inconvenient, he just unclips it, and puts it in its case, and clips on his Islam, or whatever is appropriate.

How can a supporter and apologist for Islam be a supporter of Israel?
well... I will admit that Perry did much better in the last debate.
Rick learned that from McCain.
