Two days ago President Obama authorized the deployment to Uganda of approximately 100 combat-equipped U.S. forces to help regional forces remove from the battlefield meaning capture or kill Lords Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony and senior leaders of the LRA.
The forces will ultimately go to Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the permission of those countries.
The president made this announcement in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Friday afternoon, saying that deploying these U.S. Armed Forces furthers U.S. national security interests and foreign policy and will be a significant contribution toward counter-LRA efforts in central Africa.

I agree that Congress should have slim to no input in the conduct of a military operation, once they authorize it.
That is not the issue here. The issue is who has the authority to call for military action in the first place? And the Constitution is very clear on that: Congress NOT the President. And for very good reasons. If a President goes off the deep end, and decides to use the military for his own personal purposes, who would stop him? The Founding Fathers wisely decided to dilute the power of any one branch of government through separation of powers.
The White House said the first troops arrived in Uganda on Wednesday. Ultimately, they'll also deploy in South Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Obeyme is using OUR troops in behalf of HIS people, some personal African agenda I assume. And what does Congress do now to stop him?
Have you noticed: Libyan “rebels”=good; Ugandan rebels=bad.
I think Rush should be careful about what he says on this topic. Go read the Stratfor summary of the group (a few posts up), which describes the systematic abduction, rape, and enslavement of children, massacres, and other crimes against civilians. The spiritual beliefs of the founder are also heretical. Overall, nothing Christian about this faction.
Exactly. I see also he's sending OUR troops into other African nations, for his ultimate goal of being King of (a muslim) Africa...
The first troops arrived in Ooga-Booga on Wednesday; yet Zippy only notified Congress -— by letter -— today.
What?! No joint session of Congress??
At the same time, Obeyme has vowed to break down his stimulus “jobs” bill into components which will be pushed through Congress one by one. The Repubs have already said they could go along with “some” components. This news all pushed to the back back burners.
Senator James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) cheered President Obamas decision to send 100 troops to Africa to act as advisors in the search for Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lords Resistance Army. For more than two decades, the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) has murdered, raped, and kidnapped tens of thousands of men, women, and children in central Africa, Obama said in a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate Daniel Inouye.
I wonder what Inhofe's price was.
Maybe-
It is very possible that what we are doing is purely altruistic, that actually happens frequently. However, you never know with these sort of things, just like we never really left Somalia even after 1993 and we did have guys on the ground in Libya despite what the POTUS told the media. Who knows what is really going on there, who is tied to who... For example (Just as a historical perspective and eye opener that few to know but gives some insight)- When we invaded Grenada the workers building that airfield there were Cubans (military - the Cubans did a lot of dirty work for the Soviets even in Africa with the Soviets being their financier) and were armed but were in civilian cloths. The civil engineers were from the DDR (East Germany), the money to build that airfield was funneled through a third party in Central America but originated from the Soviet Union to hide their direct involvement. The Airfield itself (on an island with little to no tourism or industry) was extremely large, big enough to accommodate large strategic Soviet Bombers like the Bear. The government in Grenada had just recently been toppled with the assistance of outside influence, i.e. Cuba and the Soviets. Now put the dots together. But do you think it was reported on this way?
What is for sure is that from the conservative side you see a reluctance to bad mouth the troops or attack their cause, to play games with issues that have national security implications.
We don’t do these sort of things: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=john+kerry+the+last+man+to+die+for+a+mistake&gs_sm=s&gs_upl=14921l20812l2l22234l34l18l1l8l8l2l562l5718l2-11.5.0.2l27l0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbo=u&tbm=vid&source=og&sa=N&tab=wv&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=37ceef6cfe2a5c14&biw=1920&bih=1046
Do you see any games being played with Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya...? Are the conservative attaching all sorts of BS spending to defense appropriations as the Democrats did in 2006 onward, essentially blackmailing Bush with a shutdown of war spending unless he approves their social welfare state? Do you see the conservative side using every missed bomb or mishap in Libya to undermine this administration as Obama did himself, Howard Dead did? Do you see the conservative side using mishaps like Abu Gahrib to attack a war effort in order to discredit the administration?
The liberal side is willing to play games with national security and the safety of our troops in a way that the conservative side is reluctant to do. Did Clinton see the sort of games being played in the Balkans as Bush did on Iraq? Did the 1993 Somalia incident get exploited by opposition politicians as Abu Gahrib was?
There is some “criticism” in execution and a little political gamesmanship from the right side, but they generally are far more reserved and even reluctant to exploit these issues compared to their liberal counterparts that have a no-holds barred approach. What was the point of “Congressional hearings on Abu Gahrib?” http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&source=hp&q=abu%20ghraib%20congressional%20hearing&pbx=1&oq=abu%20ghraib%20cong&aq=2v&aqi=g-v3&aql=1&gs_sm=sc&gs_upl=938l2484l2l5984l5l4l0l0l0l0l828l2531l4-1.1.2l4l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=fcc0c44f95915fa4&biw=1920&bih=1046&pf=p&pdl=300 What do you think this incident did to the threat for US troops in Iraq as the local citizens there get all stirred up?
Crapping on the DoD, endangering the troops or their mission is taboo on the conservative side.
Maybe nothing, and that’s the point.
Maybe it was just the “right thing to do.”
Maybe the conservative side doesn’t *exploit* these issues like the libs and Democrats do on EVERY occasion when they are in the Congressional minority and in opposition political mode.
Congress, they have the money. Take away the money and the military stops.
I understand your frustration, like I said before, this is why you don't elect a drug using community organizer with ties to a known terrorist group. But we did, the solution is to kick his butt out and put in someone we can trust, not rewriting the Constitution. this scares the hell out of me too, but we can take the money away, that's what we should be demanding.
That's what they did to Reagan, granted he went around Congress and got money from Iran and Iraq, but oh well, the American People took Reagan's side. I don't believe Obama would get that support.
Some new barns down at the ranch compound West of Muskogee probably. Looked like he needed them last time I went by there.
Mr. odinga seems to have a lot more emotional ties to Africa than to the country he rules over doesn’t he.
In his first year of his reign, mr odinga sent several of his staffers to Kenya. Several times. What’s up with that?
Moochelle: baraq’s home country of kenya or something like that.
Now sending US troops to Africa. There is no reason for this.
IMO, obama is feathering his nest in Africa. He is raising huge amounts of money for his campaign, but has yet to spend any of it. Bet he is looting the US treasury for his own gain, skips the country and lives large in Kenya on our dime.
wouldn’t put it past him at all.
Is Obama going to have to give back the Peace Prize?
Uganda also uses child soldiers. So much different than the LRA...
Nothing Christian about the LRA!
Thank you for link.
