Newt Gingrich called for a middle path on immigration reform

No. First, I don't believe we would collect on the bill, but it would give us a claim against them if they returned, which might deter them. Second, we don't have to transport them out. We have to kill their access to jobs and free services, and they will transport themselves out. Look at what happens when a state starts enforcing the law - many illegals leave on their own.
Lemonade my arse. You explain IN DETAIL why it’s ‘impossible’ to round them up, kick them out and build the wall.
From another post on the subject...
The entire problem of illegal aliens, benefits, tuition et all comes down to one very simple question that we allow politicians and many of the pro-illegal/apologistst for bad policy right here on FR to get away with and divert from.
The presence of illegal aliens on American soil is a violation of our laws from the nanosecond they cross the border. Period. Any further law policy rule or regulation aiding illegal aliens cannot by its very nature be legal because it goes against one very simple FACT. It aids and abeds a criminal.
Now every time an apologist for the various DREAM Act like laws or sanctuary city nonsense goes off about it being a Federal matter, remind them of that simple FACT and ask them what they are doing to hold the politicians who WILLINGLY BREAK THE LAW by their implementation, accountable. Dont back off, dont let them divert, duck, ignore and change the subject...make them square it. In public. Here on Free Republic and in the real world.
Hint...making them President/Governor etc. is NOT holding them accountable. Allowing apologists and propagandists to continue making excuses for Perrys two-faced positions on illegals is not holding them accountable. Can anyone here tell me with a straight face otherwise?
Why are supposed and self-proclaimed conservatives spouting the very same lines that liberals use to push their agenda for illegal aliens? Is it not time we put an end to this BS?
Never have so many words been used to say so little.
No need to “round them up”, make them self-deport by taking away all of their freebies, and make sure they are unemployable, then they’ll go running back to Meh-Hee-Co.
I'm not counting the millions who could simply hop in their own automobiles and drive back home.
Do you have any idea what 20 million people is like? First, that's the number of tourists who visited the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial about 5 years after its dedication ~ just in the summer.
So how did those visitors get here? How did they leave?
I've gone through the logistics several times on FR. The numbers are not actually "enormous" ~ and can be handled easily.
In 2010, conservatives and fed-up Americans started pushing this unwilling government back to where it ought to be. Tacitly accepting backsliding from this from a 'supposed' tip-of-the-spear we're putting forth in November 2012 to consolidate and expand November 2010 gains is equivocation and just plain madness.
What is this middle path? Build a fence only half high, or perhaps half a fence, similar to the Maginot Line.
Let’s take him up on it. Let’s give the illegals half the benefits their currently receiving. Oh, and only half the votes they’re currently casting.
“”And we must recognize that some peopel who came here legally are deeply imbedded in our culture..””
I think it has to be a typo and should read “who came here illegally”.
Mr. Scozzafava is drunk on Potomac water again.
Your comments want to make me puke. This is the same BS that comes from the mouths of Obama, McCain, and Gutierrez.
The proponents of amnesty are wont to create the false choice between a blanket amnesty and mass deportation of 12 to 20 million illegal aliens. In reality, we have other choices and alternatives that dont reward people who have broken our laws with the right to stay and work here and an eventual path to citizenship. The 12 to 20 million illegal aliens did not enter this country overnight and they will not leave overnight. Attrition through enforcement works. We have empirical data from experiences in Georgia, Colorado, Alabama, and Arizona proving that it does.
In analyzing the 2007 CIR bill, Robert Rector of The Heritage Foundation stated, The main fiscal impact will occur through two mechanisms: (1) the grant of amnesty, with accompanying access to Social Security, Medicare and welfare benefits, to 12 million illegal immigrants who are overwhelmingly low skilled; and (2) a dramatic increase in chain immigration, which will also be predominantly low skilled. The bottom line is that high school dropouts are extremely expensive to U.S. taxpayers. It does not matter whether the dropout comes from Ohio, Tennessee, or Mexico. It does matter that the Senate immigration bill would increase the future flow of poorly educated immigrants into the U.S. and grant amnesty and access to government benefits to millions of poorly educated illegal aliens already here. Such legislation would inevitably impose huge costs on U.S. taxpayers.
Heritage research has concluded that the cost of amnesty alone would be $2.6 trillion. And the number of additional LEGAL immigrants who would join those who were the recipients of amnesty through chain migration, i.e., family reunification, would approach 70 million over a 20-year period, assuming there are only 12 million illegal aliens. We cannot assimilate such numbers. An amnesty would destroy the United States of America with the stroke of a pen. Amnesty is forever.
being illegal is like being pregna,t you are or you ain’t. can’t be a little bit pregnant, and you can’t be a little bit illegal.
the laws you break may be more serious than others, but illegal is as it says. illegal.
how can you promote respect for the law when you yourself only respect some laws and not others?
Can you imagine what would have happen had they announced "Uh, guys, that's a federal matter. We'll have to stand back while the FBI and Secret Service do all the work."
40% of the illegals came here legally and overstayed their visas. Securing the border only solves part of the problem.
Just when Newt was getting a bit of traction...
How about offering in-state college tuition too, while you’re at it?
Illdgal immigration is partly thr politition’s fault. If Newt would have taken the real middle ground and said he wants to turn off the damn magnet, then I would have agreed with him.
“One answer is a 6-Month Temporary Work Visa.... HOWEVER - the solution is to make it so that you CAN NOT get one of those, nor renew one, IN the US.”
The problem I see is that we tried a well intentioned solution with the Reagan amnesty in 1986. Only the amnesty part ever got implemented. Every administration following his subverted every sanction built into that law.
I expect that if we enacted a Temporary Work Visa it would become a permanent visa almost immediately and would be used to vastly expand the number of people coming here for jobs. Not so great for that portion of the American population directly competing with a huge number of foreign nationals willing to work here in barracks style circumstances.
The bottom line is that the conservative movement is infiltrated with agents provocateur and people who just do not realize how liberal they really are.
How many posts have we seen on this subject that people want ‘someone else’ to fix the problem and are content to sit back and bitch about it?
To paraphrase the Joker The conservative movement needs an enema.
Once upon a time men stood up for themselves and addressed their problems. Today, even on FR, there are many who are content to whine about them and complain about those wanting actual solutions.
Makes me sick.
Yes, Newt, I was wrong. I should have said kick every illegal out along with any politician who panders to them.
YUP, now ol' Whitey was certainly deeply imbedded in that culture ~ and no doubt Newt is still wondering why we needed to haul him away to prison.
One more time, Newt is still out of synch with MODERN TIMES. He's still thinking about the way things were back when he was fighting the evil Jim Wright!
