Herman Cain named Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) as potential running mates should he secure the Republican presidential nomination for the 2012 election.
Speaking Thursday on "The Steve Gill Show," Cain outlined the qualities he would like in a running mate, and then, unprovoked, offered specific names.
There are some people in Congress that are very, very good, that I respect and admire and that I would love to have on my team, Cain said. Whether that would be in a V.P. slot or in a key Cabinet slot
Ill give you a name like Representative Paul Ryan. Im not saying he would be the V.P. pick, he might be, but thats the type of person I would want in my Cabinet. Hes the type of person. Sen. Jim DeMint people who are not afraid to challenge the system

Bush had Cheney to deal with the Beltway types, and Sarah Palin upset the bureaucracy in Alaska, but would have failed in DC... Her executive skills are actually pretty rare
but, she aint runnin and Herman Cain is no Sarah
I’ve seen it in business and in goobmint, talkin’ tough is often mistaken for leadership ability- that’s how we got Urkel in the WH now

Cain is definitely not a "plays well with others" star. He's a turnaround artist who sees clearly what needs to be done and then implements his strategy.
That said, I would think he has a very good idea of his precise weaknesses and where he needs to rely on others. I wouldn't expect him to get hogtied at all. Turnarounds are a very unique specialty...and America is in prime need of being turned-around.

Tell me who HAS successfully worked around government bureaucracies. Reagan didnt, neither Bush did eitherYou're kidding, right? You couln't possibly NOT know that Reagan was one of the most successful governors of California that CA ever had.

He’s just saying this to help Romney! He can’t possibly win! He should withdraw immediately so his supporters can get behind (fill in the blank)!

Herman Cain grew up in Atlanta, Georgia with loving parents and little else. His father worked three jobsas a janitor, a barber and a chauffeurand his mother was a domestic worker. Even though these jobs required hard work and little glamour, his parents knew this life was better than the dirt farms upon which they grew up. They also knew that this hard work was the key to achieving their American Dreams.
Hermans parents had two dreams. First, they wanted to own their own house. Secondly, they wanted both of their children to graduate from college. During the segregation era in the Deep South, these aspirations might have seemed lofty, but they knew that if they kept their faith in God, faith in themselves and faith in the greatest country on the Earth, they could achieve.
The first dream was realized in a modest brick house on Albert Street in Atlanta, Georgia. After years of saving from his many jobs, Hermans father surprised the whole family, even his wife, by purchasing a home for their family. The second dream was realized when Herman graduated from Morehouse College with a degree in mathematics in 1967. His brother, Thurman, would go on to graduate from Morris Brown College.
Inspired by the work ethic and character of his parents, Herman continued his education by earning his Masters degree in computer science from Purdue University while working full-time developing fire control systems for ships and fighter planes for the Department of the Navy. Though Herman enjoyed using his talents as a civilian employee for the Navy, he gravitated towards the culture of business.
Herman returned to his home of Atlanta to begin working as a computer systems analyst for the Coca-Cola Company. After considerable success at Coca-Cola, he moved to the Pillsbury Company. Within a short period of time, Herman rose to position of Vice President. Although the comforts of a corner office on the 31st floor of a majestic corporate building seemed satisfying, Herman knew that he needed a challenge.
He became the regional vice president of Pillsburys Burger King division. This meant starting from the ground up, dodging grease fires and broiling hamburgers. Herman was assigned to lead a low performing region of 450 of their restaurants. Within three years, it became the best performing region in the company.
Energized by overcoming the many obstacles of his job at Burger King, Herman took on the biggest challenge of his career. He accepted the call to become the President and CEO of Godfathers Pizza, a company that was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. In just 14 months, Herman returned Godfathers to profitability and he led his management team to a buyout of the company.
His professional successes garnered the respect and admiration of industry peers who named him the President of the National Restaurant Association. Under Hermans administration, the group grew significantly and began to lobby for the interests of Americas restaurateurs and small business owners.
In 1994, as head of the National Restaurant Association, he had the opportunity to speak with President Clinton during a nationally televised town hall meeting. Here, Herman challenged the President regarding the impact on businesses if his health care overhaul proposal were passed. President Clinton attempted to assure him and the millions of viewers watching at home that his legislation would not harm American business owners and their employees.
Herman was skeptical. Quite honestly Mr. President, your calculations are incorrect, he said. In the competitive marketplace, it simply doesnt work that way. His words echoed across America, and Newsweek named Herman Cain the primary saboteur of Hillarycare.
Through these and other appearances on behalf of the National Restaurant Association, Herman began working with business leaders across all sectors of the American economy. This led to his acceptance of a position on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and he was subsequently elected their chairman. In this role, he analyzed economic conditions in the region and notified the Federal Reserve of how their policies should respond.
Most recently, he hosted a radio talk show, The Herman Cain Show, on Atlantas WSB 750 AM/ 95.5 FM. He serves as a regular contributor on several broadcast networks and as a keynote speaker at conferences and events around the nation.
Despite the many professional commitments of his life, Herman continues to enjoy most the time spent with family and friends. As his children got married and had their own children, he knew that he had an extraordinary obligation to do what he could to make this a safe and prosperous nation for them. The paramount joys in his life are his wife, Gloria, his children and his grandchildren.
Now I highlighted and underline Herman's working at the Fed to meet a promise that I made to many of the Paulist on FR. Herman was not a member of the Board of Governors which sets monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is more or less a bank for banks and what they do is provide financial services to depository institutions including banks, credit unions, and savings and loans, much like those that banks provide for their customers. These services include collecting checks, electronically transferring funds, and distributing and receiving cash and coin.
I know that sounds so very ominous.

Sorry purity police, except for the way Obama used the auto bailout, every one of those things was good.
We ended up making money on TARP. No Child Left Behind held teachers and school responsible for children's achievement for the first time. The Bush budgets funded the war on terror we benefit from today and Medicare pt. D stopped the Democrats from ramming thru their healthcare socialism ahead of time by watering it down and running the whole thing thru the private sector. Its the only program that runs a surplus.
You people who use lies and distortion as debate are lazy, ill-informed and disgusting.
Try reading something besides posts by other idiots.

The only option from inside the circle would be Newt, and I think he’d rather write books and get huge lecture fees than be VP. This makes really great sense, and I love that Cain named names well in advance, because people will automatically start thinking of him as a “ticket” now. Something I’d hoped Palin would have done, had she run.

In the past he's mentioned Tom Coburn as possible VP.

"Rick Perry, who will unveil his economic plan starting with an energy speech on Friday,
did not get a chance to answer that question during the New Hampshire debate."
He was flat-out asked, 'what is your plan.' He didn't have an answer.
The TOPIC of the debate was the economy. He knew it. They all knew it.
He was unprepared. "I'll have it together in three days," is not a good answer.

>>Absolutely agree with you about DeMint. Canât afford to lose his influence in the Senate.
DeMint has already stated that he won’t seek another term after his current one expires in 2016, so VP would be a nice transition for him.

Really? He didn't support such actions. Your arguing for the use of Gov't in those realms of business. If you believe Gov't should be involved in the business of medicine, automobiles and bailing out failed business models, I can see why you would support it.
This is one of those ideological beliefs, either you support Gov' involvement or you don't.

I just love the way that this ‘Romney as VP’ quote is twisted. If Romney changes everything about himself, then yeah, he’d pick him. It was a ‘gotcha’ question that so-called conservatives just love to hype.
And how they ignore the rest of the sentence where he said that he’d prefer Newt over Romney even with the caveat.
This tells me a LOT about the people who’re doing this.

“Implements his strategy”
You mean, like ordering his subordinates and employees what to do, or they get fired from Godfather’s?
Like that management style is going to work with Congress and with non-subordinates and non employees who are untouchable by directives ...
Who is he going to “fire”?
Temperament wise, how is he going to handle the outright rasist abuse the democrats and MEdia types are going to heap on him? He already showed a very thin skin about a 30 yr old painted rock
Fact is, we know almost NOTHING about Cain under pressure.
NOTHING. NOTHING about his weaknesses and vulnerabilities, Forget about how he deals with Harry Belafonte, how is he going to deal with China and Iran and North Krea? Is Putin going to respect him? Is al Qaeda?
So, he blasts RINOS in 60 minute stand up debates and sound bites and the crowd claps and people tell the pollsters they would vote for him today.
We have seen this before, it did not end well

Good move by Cain flattering DeMint. If he can get DeMint’s endorsement it is all over in South Carolina, no matter what happens in Iowa and New Hampshire.
