Representative Joe Walsh (no--not that Joe Walsh), a Tea Party supported Republican representing the Illinois 8th congressional district, greatly upset the Brady Campaign late last month when he expounded on the purpose of the Second Amendment. From the Daily Herald:
We are an embarrassment (in Illinois), Walsh said. We are the last state standing when it comes to concealed carry. There's no issue when it comes to freedom that matters like this, like the Second Amendment. The most important amendment in that Bill of Rights is the Second Amendment. It protects every other amendment. It is the last line of defense between us and our government.
According to the Brady Campaign, Rep. Walsh "has some explaining to do," for making such a "scary" statement:
"The people of Illinois deserve an explanation from Joe Walsh. Is he saying Illinois needs to legalize the carrying of hidden, loaded guns to allow residents to threaten violence against the government?," asked Brady Acting President Dennis Henigan.

The reason the Statists hate the idea of citizens having free access to arms is that it is a clear statement of a level of independence from the State; a clear indication that the Constitution is not completely degraded to nothing; and for those reasons, it completely changes a persons attitude.

legalize the carrying of hidden, loaded guns to allow residents--
--"hidden, loaded" seem to be the latest catchwords for the anti-gun people--

Illinois is not alone as a state where guns are not allowed to be carried.
I live in Maryland , and only those who few who the State Police allow to have permits can carry.
Damned few. Our 2nd. Amendments rights have been in the toilet for years, thanks to a Democrat lock on Maryland Government.

CT isn't much better. When I read things like this, the first thought that goes through my mind is, what OTHER rights are they impugning?

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive."
Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution (Philadelphia 1787)
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Thomas Jefferson

You nailed it! As usual, you find the best quotes, to show what the Founders really meant and how they really felt about our right to keep and bear arms.
You go, girl.

LOL!!!
The Founders left absolutely no doubt as to how they felt about the 2nd Amendment and gun rights.
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks. If you can get to it, the Grand Jury can issue Presentments and force the prosecution of such officials.
US Code Title 18, Sections 242 & 241.
