Fueled by Tea Party supporters, conservatives and high-interest GOP primary voters, former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain now leads the race for the Republican presidential nomination, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Cain checks in as the first choice of 27 percent of Republican voters in the poll, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 23 percent and Perry at 16 percent. After those three, it’s Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 11 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent, Bachmann at 5 percent and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman at 3 percent.

Does that strike you as odd? Wouldn't you think that you would have some type of plan if you were going to run?

CBS this evening had a straightforward report on 9-9-9 and pointed out how it would hurt those at the bottom of the income ladder.

Reread your statement and then slap yourself in the face and read it again. Firstly, you are citing CBS news and secondly you are worried about people who aren't paying a cent of their fair share?

I have a problem with people who don’t like the 999 plan. I would LOVE to have my income tax reduced to 9%. That would many times over offset what the 9% tax on things we buy would be. Besides, we can decide what to buy, and if we don’t want to pay the 9% tax to buy something, then we don’t buy it.

I do think that food and medicine should be exempt from any kind of tax, though.

Everyone who supports Mr. Cain should throw a few (or more) bucks his way. It does take money to run a good campaign.

Romney: “Cain would be a risk due to his inexperience, but that’s okay as long as you’re not thinking about voting for the guy who governed Texas for 10 years with terrific job growth.” As a gloss on this, go read Philip Klein’s short but insightful post about the persistent weakness of the GOP field. Since 1959, no Republican has gone on to win the presidency without earning at least 40 percent of the primary vote at this point in the race. Our top tier, meanwhile, is chronically mired in the mid to low 20s, with Romney so desperate to break through the 25-percent ceiling that he’s now actually touting other candidates in the race to try to force the most advantageous hold-your-nose Romney vs. Not Romney showdown that he can. It’s come to this, my friends. Or no, rather — it’s come to this.

Considering the inflation rate and the cost for rent,food, gasoline, etc., you’re barely surviving at that income level.

And you think that's a good thing that we need to preserve? (A person making $25,000 a year and paying no taxes).

If the American people elect Herman Cain running on his 9-9-9 plan, politicians in Congress will be afraid not to take the plan seriously.

It’s called political capital.

There will be scores of lobbyists scurrying under the radar fighting for their particular corner of federal favoritism, so there will be a battle.

In the end it will be a negotiation.

Let's apply Rush Limbaugh's brilliant logic to this. 27 percent support means Cain has been rejected by the vast majority of Republicans, 73 percent to be exact. That's right. Three of every four Republicans polled reject Cain out of hand--do not want him to be president and will not support him.

Aside from all that, I no longer have any interest at all in supporting Cain. He is completely unserious and his 9-9-9 plan is a joke without a punchline.

I wish Santorum could get some traction. He saw the ridiculousness of Cain's 9-9-9 plan yesterday and called Cain on it. Cain had no real rebuttal.
