Reid:Republican Obstruction Is Costing Nevadans Thousands Of Jobs
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid ^ | October 12, 2011 | Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

Washington, D.C. – Today, Nevada Senator Harry Reid discussed how Republican obstruction is costing Nevadans thousands of jobs following last night’s vote where they blocked the American Jobs Act, which would have helped struggling families and small businesses in Nevada by putting people back to work.

“In spite of Nevadans demanding action on job creation, all we are getting from Washington Republicans is obstruction and stall tactics to score political points,” said Reid. “The time is long past for both parties to come together to create jobs in Nevada by helping small businesses hire workers; rebuilding our roads, bridges and schools; and putting money back into the pockets of middle-class families.”

President Obama’s American Jobs Act Impact In Nevada

o   Make investments of more than $250 million to create 3,300 jobs by modernizing Nevada’s roads, bridges, dams and infrastructure.

o   Invest $168 million to put 2,200 construction crew workers back to work renovating and modernizing our public schools

o   Provide more than $258 million to save and create 3,600 jobs for Nevada’s teachers and first responders.

o   Invest $585 million in communities in the state that have been devastated by foreclosures

o   Nearly $40 million to modernize Nevada’s community colleges

o   Provide a payroll tax cut to approximately 50,000 firms in Nevada to help them hire.

o   The average Nevada family would receive a tax cut of around $1,500 through the payroll tax cut.

o   The Pathways Back to Work program would provide nearly 5,000 youth and adults opportunities to work and get needed job training.

o   Extend unemployment insurance for thousands of Nevadans who are still struggling to find work.

o   The plan will do all of this, without adding a penny to the deficit.

Harry, is there not a legislature in Nevada. They can allocate funds to fix roads and bridges, etc.

This is the problem with top-down government. All the money goes to the Feds and then they allocate it out according to bribery. Don’t take it in the first place, then the legislatures can increase a tax or create a toll temporarily to pay for repairs and then remove the tax or toll.

And the people can keep their eyes on the local contractors and the local politicians who funded the project.

The benefits of local government.

Harry Reid is an infected, suppurating butt-wart on the derriere of America’s government. Whenever I hear his unctuous voice, I want to get out my scalpels and do some serious cutting!

$585 million for ‘communities’??

What the He66 is he talking about? That is about as vague a sentence as Dirty Harry has ever uttered.

He isn’t any help to Nevada. I live here. He only shows up with money & for photo ops every 6 years when he needs to be re-elected & with ACORN doing their mischief, he doen’t even need to spend much money trying to pretend to politic. In the last election, I will agree that Sharron Angle might not have been the strongest candidate, but she was showing a 4 point lead on Monday night & Tuesday night she lost by 6 points. That is a 10 point swing. Doesn’t anyone besides me think that is bogus??? Either the polls were dreadfully wrong or ACORN stuffed the ballot boxes in Clark County. Harry says there are no illegals working in Nevada, but the Pew Foundation says there are over 210,000 of them. THERE are Harry’s hard core voters.....

Dirty Harry cannot ‘retire’ soon enough for us here in n Nevada.

“The jobs bill will do all of this without adding a penny to the deficit”?????

What’s next?

Unicorns in a 6-up hitch pulling the Wells Fargo stage in their ad campaign?????

I swear that if Dirty Harry EVER told the Truth & nothing but the truth, the trumpets would sound & the walls of Jerico would tumble down some more.

Nevada keeps electing Reid, and unemployment keeps getting worse. There’s a pattern there the people of Nevada should look at.

Right. /sarc

Obama pays for this by dumping it on to the "Super Commie-ttee". IOW, he doesn't plan to pay for it at all.

Las Vegas and the rest of Nevada was losing jobs long before obama started waving his “jobs” bill around two weeks ago.
