Spend five minutes listening to politicians and pundits talk about countries like Iran and North Korea, and you walk away thinking the world is a scary place. But politicians have agendas, and pundits want viewers. They aren't always the most reliable sources, but they're usually the loudest, which is why you probably believe that ...

Especially liked the facts on China...The media tends to portray America like China’s deadbeat brother-in-law who keeps borrowing money and promising he’s good for it. But the truth is that China is far more dependent on the U.S. than the other way around. If they decided to pull the rug out from under the U.S., they’d be pulling it out from under their own economy.
Well, I saw that article earlier today. I guess if you’re hurting for some of that Obama ‘US Apology Tour’ kind of thinking, that article will give you what you’re aching for.
For the rest of us, well, I’ll save you some pain. This is the type of article that uses the (now dis-proven) 2007 claim that Iran wasn’t really enriching uranium and they didn’t have a nuclear weapons program. See, that kind of internet-level research is what passes for intellect in the college-drop-out circles.
Judge Napolitano had this article on his site. Ahmadinjehad is not in charge of Iran...the Ayatollah is...depends on which one is the madman
The author isn’t nearly as smart as he thinks he is.
His oversupply of cold water isn’t backed up by reality.
Check Iran’s real and current military exercises.
Check N. Korea’s very real progress in missile development.
Check the quantity of simple rockets N.K. has aimed at S.K.
A.Q. doesn’t need lot’s of cash flow to be effective and believing that it will stay stifled isn’t a good bet.
Let’s see:
6. I don’t care which nut/fanatic is in charge in Iran, they are dangerous.
5. I agree that the size of economies is not as important as GDP per capita. China growing is good for the US.
4. The oil point is an interesting one, though oil is clearly a world wide market and thus a market disruption in the middle east does affect the US economy. The US and the world do need to continue to seek supply.
3. My view is al Qaida is as dangerous as they were in say June 2001. As Mark Steyn likes to say, had the 9-11 gang been arrested before acting they would have been viewed as a disorganized group who were really little threat. They are not going to topple the US government, but they might strike out again in some asymmetric manner and do great damage again.
2. North Korea has nukes. So their military has nukes. That makes them dangerous. They are led by a nut. That also makes them dangerous.
1. It seems to me that the public impression is that the world does not like the US as much as in the past. That is probably true, but is not the “straw man” of this article. Of course it depends on what one means by likes as some of this is clearly jealousy.
So I will say the authors have a point about 5 and a bit of a point about 4. Maybe you could say they have a point about 1. Still at best it is a 50-50 article at best.
The cult of the 12th Imam is no frickin joke.
They get nukes...they WILL use them post haste to reveal the hidden Imam.
Just to show how out of touch this guy is, even the supreme ruler of iran is worried about Ahmadinjehads views and beliefs on the hidden Imam. They have a madman as president, and a supreme ruler who is suspicious of him (and isn't exactly all there either).
Every single scenario, that involves nutjobs worrying about nutjobs doing something nuts, is a bad scenario, we should be concerned. We should also be concerned that this nutjob may even coup his own government to kickstart the islamic version of the Armageddon.
Nicely done. Thank you.
The author of this article is one “Mark Hill.” Everyone remember there is a wacko African American guy who O’Really has on occasionally named Prof. Mark Lemont Hill? He’s the guy who starts talking really fast every time he’s challenged in any way. Hates all things Conservative. Loves all things liberal.
You are welcome. I am glad you enjoyed my comments.
I think they were off on China. China holds a trade surplus with the US. If we “pulled the rug” they could command their citizens to consume all the excess goods they produce. As far as Chinese engineering graduates, I’ve worked with many graduates of Chin Hua and MIT and can say Chin Hua has them beat.
Btt
Cracked had a top ten (or top something) reasons why WE were asses for rebelling against the British. I didn’t care for it.
Guess the title of their blog/magazine says it all “Cracked”
Since someone had to mention N. Korea, I just have to say you are either not listening or will never hear just how bad they are; if you look at their closetest allies which are Russia, Iran, and Ven/Chavez..... Oh, well; just keep worrying about the six things.
