This is the first picture of British shoe bomber Richard Reid serving life without parole in a Colorado prison known as 'The Alcatraz of the Rockies'.

He was jailed in 2003 jailing for trying to blow up an aeroplane by detonating explosives in his shoes - and sports a gleeming pair of prison issue trainers.

Failed Al Qaeda terrorist Reid is serving life without parole for trying to kill 197 people on board a transatlantic jet on December 22, 2001

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty in 2003 to attempted murder at his trial for trying to kill all those on board American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami.

Click link to read whole article. It's said his plan was foiled because he'd been walking in rainy weather and his shoes got damp, dampening the fuse as well

Reid's home, the supermax prison. If he had gotten away with his plot he and almost 200 other people would have perished

Life is tough. It's even tougher if you are stupid. . .

from Wikipedia:

>>According to his father, Reid became depressed and blamed racism for some of his problems. His father advised him to convert to Islam, telling him that Muslims were more egalitarian and they got better food in prison. The next time Reid was incarcerated (in 1995 for petty theft), he converted...

>>Reid pled guilty to all eight counts on October 4, 2002. On January 31, 2003, he was sentenced by Judge William Young to life in prison with no possibility of parole with three life sentences to be served consecutively. Eight fines of $250,000 each were also imposed. During the sentencing hearing, Reid stated that he was an enemy of the United States and in league with Al-Qaeda. Though Reid proclaimed he was a soldier of God (Allah) under the command of Osama bin Laden, Judge Young declared:

“You are not an enemy combatant, you are a terrorist” ... “You are not a soldier in any army, you are a terrorist. To call you a soldier gives you far too much stature. (points to U.S. flag) You see that flag, Mr. Reid? That is the flag of the United States of America. That flag will be here long after you are forgotten.”

>>Reid reportedly demonstrated a lack of remorse and a combative nature during the hearing and said that “the flag will come down on the day of judgement.

More:
>>A passenger pointed to Reid, who was sitting alone near a window and attempting to light a match. Moutardier warned him that smoking was not allowed on the airplane. Reid then promised to stop.

>>A few minutes later, Moutardier found Reid leaned over in his seat. Her attempts to get his attention failed. After asking “What are you doing?” Reid grabbed at her, revealing one shoe in his lap, a fuse which led into the shoe, and a lit match. She tried grabbing Reid twice, but he pushed her to the floor each time, and she yelled for help, and then ran to get water. When another flight attendant, Cristina Jones, arrived to try to subdue him, he fought her and bit her thumb and Moutardier threw water in his face. The 6 foot 4 inch (193 cm) tall, 200+ pound (90+ kg) Reid was next subdued by several passengers on the airliner, and then bound up using plastic handcuffs, seatbelt extensions, and headphone cords. A physician on board the airliner administered to Reid a tranquilizer that he found in the emergency medical kit of the airliner. This flight was immediately diverted to the Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, the closest US airport

more from Wiki:
>>On December 21, 2001, Reid attempted to board a flight from Paris, France to Miami, Florida, but his boarding was delayed because his disheveled physical appearance aroused the suspicions of the airline passenger screeners. Reid also did not answer all of their questions, and had not checked any luggage for the transatlantic flight. Additional screening by the French National Police resulted in Reid’s being re-issued a ticket for a flight on the following day. He returned to the Paris airport on December 22, 2001, and he boarded American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami, wearing his special shoes packed with plastic explosives in their hollowed-out bottoms.

We should outsource our prison system to Egypt, China, or Cuba (to name a few). It would certainly save money in supporting terrorists for the rest of their lives.

So is he tucking his foot up to give him the illusion of still having something up there?

I’m getting my “articles of clothing” bombers mixed up. At least I won’t be getting any turban bombers confused with the others.

So when a boxer calls himself Muhammad Ali, instead of his real name-Casious Clay, we honor the change.

When a terrorist changes their name to a Muslim name....the media refuses to recognize it.

A billion passenger-flights a year for ten years have been subjected to the inconvenience, annoyance, and indignity of removing their shoes in airports.

30 seconds per passenger wasted.

That’s 10,000 man-years if life wasted. Which is about what would have been wasted had he succeeded in blowing up the plane.

Isn’t it ironic how our government that pretends to protect us is actually meting out a comparable consequence in the name of protection.
