Herman Cain and Michele Bachmann dodged questions Sunday whether Romney is a Christian. The issue arose during the just-completed Values Voters Summit in Washington, exposing tensions among evangelicals over Romney's religious faith, as we reported today. Dallas Baptist pastor Robert Jeffress kicked things off by endorsing Rick Perry and declaring that Mormonism is a cult and Romney is not a Christian.
Speakers went back and forth on the issue -- and Romney himself weighed in, denouncing "poisonous speech" that doesn't help the nominating process. Asked about Jeffress' comments, Perry said he doesn't believe Mormonism is a cult.

If Romney won’t support Israel then this will doubtless come out in the wash, through the primaries. America’s evangelical side strongly supports Israel. It will be a rejection of a consequence of Mitt being a faithful LDS (if he is — seems to me that he isn’t strongly dedicated even to boasted Mormon ideals).
In his first major foreign policy speech in South Carolina, the former Massachusetts governor said: “I will begin discussions with Israel to increase the level of our military assistance and coordination. And I will again reiterate that Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon is unacceptable.

I haven’t heard him admit to wearing the magic underpants either, but I bet he does.

He does. You can see the ‘garment lines’ in some of his pictures, although it is hard to tell unless you know what you are looking for. Also, any one who has gone on an LDS mission or gotten married in the LDS temple (which Romney has) wears garments, they made sacred oaths to do so.
Even for those who leave the LDS church, it is sometimes hard to stop wearing them. I have one friend who was excommunicated from the LDS (for having sex outside of marriage) who still wore her garments (magic underwear) until she got pregnant (she married the guy) and couldn’t buy maternity garments (you have to have a current recommend to purchase them).
For others, like me, they were so uncomfortable (especially the women’s ones) that it was a relief to stop wearing them.
Garment check ping, Binger.
Just remember Romney lies to get what he wants. And as I have said before, if he didn’t really believe in Mormonism, he would be ‘inactive’ like Huntsman.
Mormonism takes over your life, it isn’t a religion where you can just go to church on Sunday and do whatever the rest of the week. You do that very long and you are leaving or going inactive (or be excommunicated depending on what you do). It exercises very tight control on its members and thus keeps the members believing and in line.
That would put Romney in an analogous position to the Catholic JFK who was asked, prior to being elected, what he would do if the demands of his church countermanded his duties to the country. JFK said he’d resign from the presidency if that was the case. Romney ought to give a similar answer, and if he won’t then Americans will pick up on that and prefer somebody like, say, Perry or Cain.
Romney’s ‘religion’ speech was basically a redo of Kennedy’s Catholic speech, and most people bought it. However, there are vast differences between Catholics and Mormons and how they view and even their allegiances to their leadership. While it is hard to explain to an outsider, I would definitly belive a Catholic would not necessarily defer to the Pope or that the Pope would call POTUS and demand something.
However, we do know that Mitt, last election cycle, met with then LDS prophet Gordon B. Hinkley about a run for POTUS and the LDS temple oaths are taken so seriously that the LDS prophet would likely interfere or make demands on a Mormon president.
I suggest you pick up a book called “When Salt Lake City Calls” by Rocky Hulse to read more about the specific problems with LDS president. It is well researched and well documented and addressees the difference between a Catholic and a Mormon in office.
The reason I will not vote for Romney is simple. He is not a Christian. Remember the Clinton commercial during the last campaign. Something about ... do you want obama taking that phone call at 2 in the morning? I thought that was pretty clever. However, I am more interested in what happens after that phone call. When the president drops to his knees to ask God for help is God listening. If the president is a Christian I believe so. If he is Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu or (gasp) Mormon I think not. Does this make Romney some kind of cult follower? I don’t believe so. Does this make him a bad person? Absolutely not. Most Mormon’s I’ve met have been decent and fine people. I’m like many evangelicals across this country. The first thing I want to know about any candidate for president is is he/she a Christian. After that question is answered then we move to policy.
Brudder Romney won’t know what hit him if he gets the nomination. The MSM will slaughter him over three or four things and he will have no defense other than to try lying. Of course he’s an expert on lying as well.
1. 1978
2. Polygamy
3. Mountain Meadows Massacre
4. Kinderhook/Gold Plates
He’ll get a pass on his baby killing beliefs as the MSM will just adore him for that. Conservatives have a duty to use that against him as well in every way possible.
ROMNEY THE BABYKILLER...Maybe I’ll design some murderous bumper stickers to pass out around Utah.

DO IT! And send me one too, please
How about someone asking Romney if Joseph Smith taught that all other religions are abominations.
Still spreading the hate for Christians, are you, "agnostic conservative"?
Thanks, I borrowed that from Jim Robinson on a thread yesterday. We need to link it on every single thread as there are certainly better candidates than Romney out there. We have to beat him with this issue because if he gets the nomination the MSM will slaughter him on the Mormon issue.
They are making him the favorite son for now.
Put on your Little-House-On-The-Prairie dress and go help your sister wives make me a sammitch.
Don't forget to sign up for the evening's lottery.
Wink wink.
I don’t see how anyone who calls themselves a conservative can view this video and vote for this man. I’m still waiting for all of the Romney supporters to comment on the video.
You probably are aware that the mormon supporters of Romney are forbidden to read or view any material that may cause them to doubt the "one true church" or the designated savior of the Constitution according to the "White Horse Prophecy", Romney.
I can tell you this, a few Romneybots have tried his defense on FR and thankfully they don’t get very far. Sadly here in Utah quite a few people are not paying attention. That’s why IMHO we need to use the strongest terms possible to call him out.
Lots of Utahns think Mormonism/Romney first and rationalize abortion. You know the age old rape/incest BS. I doubt that the video has really ever been seriously exposed. I will do my best to do it here.
You're really coming into your stride now with that hateful-evangelical, Mormon-rectitude, Mormon-admirability jive.
You're a credit to your candidate.
