With Russian help, India to join ICBM big league soon

Moscow to provide seeker tech for Agni-V, capable of hitting target beyond 10,000 km
India is all set to join the select group of nations capable of launching nuclear strikes across continent. With Russia ready to provide the cutting-edge seeker technology for Indias Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the country is ready to flaunt its nuclear might in a big way by year end when the ICBM will undergo its maiden launch.
The development of the ICBM had been delayed because no country was ready to provide India the crucial seekers technology, which enables the missile to home in on the target with pinpoint precision. The ICBM will be capable of carrying nuclear payload and has a strike range of 10,000 km.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has indigenously developed the seeker technology for Agni-I, Agni-II and Agni-III intermediate range missiles. But the DRDO was not in a position to develop the next stage technology and efforts to import it had been futile so far.
The breakthrough with Russia for the most critical system of the ICBM came after extensive talks between delegations of the two countries during Defence Minister AK Antonys three-day visit to Moscow earlier this week. The Indian delegation comprised senior missile scientists of the DRDO besides others, and Moscow agreed to help New Delhi for the ICBM project, sources said.
The two sides met to review progress on various defence projects under the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Co-operation set up a decade back. The Defence Ministers of the two countries head this body and meet once a year either in Moscow or New Delhi.
Russia, UK, the US, France and China are the only countries in the world to have ICBMs which can hit a target beyond 10,000 km. India has successfully developed intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons and hitting a target less than 4,000 km.
With the successful launch of the Agni-III two years back, the Indian scientists displayed their capability to even develop ICBM. However, their efforts over the last two years or so to go ahead with Angi-V launch could not progress due to non-availability of seeker techology.
Given discriminatory attitude against India by some advanced countries, including the US vis-à-vis sharing advanced technology over the last two decades, it was tough going for the missile project scientists till Russia agreed to come to Indias rescue, officials said.
They said Russia was more than willing to share technical know-how with India for its missile programme and time tested defence relations between the two countries spanning more than four decades again produced positive results, sources said.
In another important development, Russia will also share its advanced GPS system for military purposes with India. The US has been reluctant to do so despite repeated assurances by Washington that it is ready to open its doors for hi-tech.
Incidentally, the other country to provide frontline technology in missiles and avionics is Israel and its sophisticated radars helped the DRDO carry out the successful test of Agni-III, sources pointed out.
Fallout spreads like kudzu and you can’t drink milk tainted with Strontium 90. Stock up now.
Because they refuse to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, which is why ITAR information cannot be exported to them.
The Russians have done something remarkable here: sold technology to India without having to endure an invasion of Indian immigrants into their country. American immigration policy towards India has been formed to allow millions of their population to resettle in the U.S. on the theory that India will then be our friend against China and the Muslim middle east. But Russia is almost Indian free - the streets of Moscow are the one place in the world where I hardly ever see someone from India.
Amazing, huh? You can trade with a country without letting masses of their people in. Whoda thunkit.
Apparently Russia.
The NPT is a farce. Why sign a treaty which doesn’t allow you to build nukes while those like China get the best of both worlds.
Were Indian immigrants allowed to the US as part of a strategy to form a political alliance?? So what about Chinese immigrants-why were they allowed in. Besides I don’t think the US needs India to be part of an alliance against the ‘Muslim’ Middle East when countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt are major American partners.
I’m not surprised this is happening. India still rightfully fears the increasing power of China (people forget India and China had border clashes in the 1960’s) and they want a deterrent system capable of hitting Beijing from the Indian subcontinent or the oceans off the coast of India to keep China in check.
If they can manage to increase the range, they can launch eastward, circle the globe, and hit Pakistan from the rear..
“Seeker” and “Ballistic Missile” are sort of incompatible concepts. “Ballistic” implies unguided, like an artillery shell, and clearly early U.S. and Soviet ICBMs where completely ballistic. As far as I know, U.S. ICBMs still earn their B for ballistic. The deployment vehicles may be guided, but the re-entry vehicles are ballistic.
Bunk. Both "free trade" and immigration policies are sold and shaped as tools of policy.
And if U.S. immigration is "equal opportunity", why is it that the vast majority of aliens now come from Mexico, China and India?
PS: immigrating to the United States is not a civil right and there is no impetus to make it "equal opportunity". It's a matter for the will of the Americans to accept foreigners among them. Translation: Invasion is not a civil right.
Simple. Mexico shares a direct border with US. China and India have the largest pool of student, graduates and young skilled worker ANYWHERE in the world, hands down.
Regardless of what you may believe, immigration policies aren't specifically geared towards bringing in Indians over and above other ethnicity/nationality. It was incidental that Indians turned out to be the major benefactors of the existing policies because of certain factors. And why would US be in love with Indians all of a sudden that they want to bring in more of them?
“Equal opportunity” has nothing to do with “Civil right”. It only means a Indians or Chinese is subjected to the same immigration policy and regulations as a African, European or Latin American. Certain rules may very country-wise but there is no special treatment or preference for any race/ethnicity over others.
Hah, whatta laugh. Wrong. Family reunification changes to the U.S. immigration code in 1965 is what changed the flow - previously it was national origin allocations, but the effect of the "reunification" portion of the code was intentionally concealed by the people who wrote the legislation. It has the effect of bringing entire villages from Oaxaca into the United States since everyone is related.
As for your crap about China and India having "skilled" worker pools, it a) isn't true (they're largely unskilled, have to be trained in the U.S. at U.S. taxpayer expense) and b) we didn't need or want them in our country, we have our own people to fill jobs.
But by your bad grammar you betray yourself as one of them, so we all understand where you're coming from.
I am sorry I don't quite see your point. Explain to me how does that translate into preferential treatment for Indians?
“As for your crap about China and India having “skilled” worker pools, it a) isn't true (they're largely unskilled, have to be trained in the U.S. at U.S. taxpayer expense) and b) we didn't need or want them in our country, we have our own people to fill jobs.”
Can you please site any U.S government (taxpayer funded) program that brings in unskilled immigrants from overseas and trains them to fill jobs in US?
Forget the schools in India and China.... have you been to any US university lately and taken a look at the graduate class or a doctoral research departments? Indians and Chinese form the majority HERE WITHIN US. Where are all the American students in engineering and science that you speak of?
As for my bad grammar, pardon me but I don't quite see any ivy league style sophistication in your own English. Thankyou.
That's very good, you know where I am coming from. I read bad grammar on FR all the time. To me, it only means they haven't proof read their comments before they posted. I do that all the time.
?? He just didn't put workers in plural -- left out the "s". That doesn't work out as bad grammar. Ditto for "it only means a Indians or Chinese" -- evidently he wished to write it as "it only means an Indian or Chinese" --> these are minor typos when one is debating on an online forum and typing fast, not really indicative of bad grammar.
Which people from which country are flooding Russia?
It has miserably cold climate, is one of drabbest place on earth, has a communist KGB dictator regime in place.
Why would intelligent Indians want to move to Russia?
OTOH in USA, the intelligent and hard working immigrant Indians have higher income per person than any other group including American born whites.
You’re just now commenting on a thread from 2011??!
my bad, did not notice the date. Have no clue how I stumbled into that thread from 2011.
