He is the latest Tea Party favourite to burst through in the increasingly heated race for the Republican presidential nomination and see their poll numbers rocket them to frontrunner status.
However, unlike previous rightwing darlings such as Texas governor Rick Perry and Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann, wealthy businessman Herman Cain, 65, can claim to be cut from a very different sort of cloth from the average Republican candidate.
First, he is not actually a politician. Cain, whose CV includes being a radio show host, a navy ballistics expert, a Baptist minister and a Federal Reserve official, has never held elected office in his life. His most famous job was as chief executive of the fast-food firm Godfather's Pizza.
Yet none of that seemed to matter to the cheering crowds at the Values Voter Summit in a Washington DC hotel late last week. There was much to celebrate. A Zogby opinion poll had just boosted Cain into first place in the race, with 38% of the vote, compared with 18% for former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. Perry trailed in third place with 12%. The study even showed Cain beating President Barack Obama in a match-up by 46% to 44%.

I’m one of the Associate Ministers there because I was called to the ministry.
Neither of the elective offices that Obama held were "effective". He is 100% the result of affirmitive action and did nothing in his prior offices.

Several months back, when I first heard Cain I was impressed.
His idea-—9-9-9—seems reasonable, seems like the end result would take the powder away from the glib, Leland Gaunt-types pandering to envy & greed.

I like how he incorporated HOPE-CHANGE...I like too his sense of humor, although those in the media, those guardians with their superior wisdom and virtue went to Defcon-One and launched the missiles when he was comedic. Heh!
Something like Reagan...”the missiles launch in 5-minutes... or whatever it was...hilarious.
What's the difference between never having held elective office and never fulfilling the duties of the one someone is elected to. Ten minutes as Ill. state senator before being elected to the US Senate and fifteen minutes later running for POTUS, voting "present" all along the way.
And they can at least communicate (albeit in a limited form) WITHOUT a teleprompter, lol.

As one of the net tax payers, I agree. If the Federal government were shrunk down to the level of it’s Constitutional Authority, the funds (and therefore taxation) required to run it would be so tiny and insignificant, that the source wouldn’t be quibbled over. But the income tax wasn’t really instituted to fund the government, so much as to surpress the economy (and thus influence) of the middle class over time, making us all to be eventually wards of the state (the entire aim of Progressives), serfs in poverty.
I said the source wouldn’t be quibbled over. To correct myself, it probably still would be, but it wouldn’t be as pressing an issue, and most everyone would prosper more than they are now anyway. The greatest fleecing in all of mankind (economically), is the U.S. income tax and paycheck witholding. Trillions upon trillions stolen before it was ever even seen.
I think you have to have a sense of humor to be a good leader - i.e. your reference to Reagan. First you have to get people's attention, then you have to have the substance behind it to accomplish your goals. Herman Cain has both, he's proven it his entire life, VP of Pillsbury at 34?
Reagan's trickle down philosophy wasn't immediately effective, apparently he was encouraged several times to give it up but he stuck by it - he was tenacious and that's an excellent quality for a President.
