The songbook of Roger Greenaway and Roger Cooke includes some of the best material of Sixties British pop. They made a splash in 1963 ('64 in America) with a tune for the Searchers.

I’ll crap if we get rains that mess up the shoot.

I am really worried about the drought though.

We gonna have fun. I think it will all work out to a nice October weekend.

I sure hope we do. So far, there’s not a cloud in the sky. It’s supposed to be cooler too, but right now it’s still nearly 80.

Crazy Texas weather! LOL!

A funny thing happened on the way to the Canteen buckaroos. Some of you will remember last week when I just Jeff Becked the place to death? Well, excuse me .... (best Steve Martin voice). I'm pretty happy to say Oops, I did it again. I know, I know ... too much of a good thing right? Well frankly no. It's an evil conspiracy. I think I did a two week run of Jimi Hendrix once, but Jeff's catalog is Even bigger and the live stuff (at least the last 20 years worth) is better recorded. On top of that, did you know that in addition to the Live at Ronnie Scott's DVD I posted last week that there's actually a 4 CD companion set? Did anyone notice I posted not a single rockabilly tune last week? I didn't touch the Jeff Beck Group's Rough And Ready album nor, Jeff's Who Else! or Guitar Shop CDs. I almost totally forgot to cover Beck, Bogart and Appice (especially the long lost unreleased second album). Was it all part of my evil plan to Beckinate the Canteen into submission? Bwa-ha-ha-ha! Am I trying to Beckinize the FReepers or am I just forgetful? It doesn't matter ... remember no one forcing you to click the links buckaroos and the requests this week led me to no better options.

So here, for the second week in a row I'm gonna get my Jeff on and start things off with a blistering rockabilly set I hope the old timers will enjoy. You see, Jeff cut his musical teeth on groups like Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps. Gene hailed from Norfolk, VA, my neck of the woods FRiends, and I sorta grew up listening to the same stuff. Did you know the "Blue Caps" was slang for the sailors around the Norfolk area? Oh yes, Gene was the MAN! Anyhow, a young man named Cliff Gallup played guitar with Gene, and Jeff Beck credits him as one of his biggest influences. So much so, that in 1993, Jeff teamed with The Big Town Playboys to record a tribute album to Gene and Cliff. The Big Town Playboys were a rockabilly group out of London that went on to back luminaries like Robert Plant and of couse, they reunited in 2008 at Ronnie Scott's to let Jeff showcase his obcession. You see, American rockabilly music had a profound effect on the British crowd in the 50s, from the blues boys like Page, Clapton and the Stones to the popular skiffle beat adopted by the Beatles and their followers.

We start tonight with a side of Jeff Beck you probably haven't heard before. Grab your blue suede shoes, your red blue jeans and let's get our B-I-Bickey-Bi, Bo-Bo Go on! Go cats, GO!
