In news sure to inject shock and awe into the Republican political primary season, a Zogby poll released Thursday showed Herman Cain leading the Republican field, topping former front-runner Mitt Romney by an astonishing 20 points. Cain would also narrowly edge out Obama in a general election, the poll found, by a 4644 margin.
Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, would lose by a point to the president, 40 percent to 41 percent. Texas governor Rick Perry, who has slipped in the polls of late, would lose to the president 45 percent to 40 percent.
The poll found that 38 percent of Republican primary voters said they would vote for Cain if the primary were held today. Eighteen percent said they would throw their support to Romney, while 12 percent each said they would vote for Perry and Texas congressman Ron Paul. No other candidate attracted double-digit support.

"Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Following an Election Day prediction that Democratic candidate John Kerry would win more than 300 electoral votes and the presidency, one of America's most well known polling firms continued the job Wednesday of explaining its flawed projection.Shawnta Watson Walcott, communications director for Zogby International, joined a group of liberal Democrats at a faux congressional hearing focused on whether fraud influenced the Nov. 2 outcome.
"... it has become increasingly clear that this election has produced unprecedented levels of suspicion regarding its outcome, and we join this panel discussion in an attempt to find a resolution to these issues," said Walcott, who represented the firm's president and long time political pollster John Zogby at the forum sponsored by Democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee.
On Election Day, Zogby predicted that Kerry would win 311 electoral votes. For much of that afternoon, he also rated the state of Virginia as too close to call. Not only did President Bush end up winning Virginia by 9 percentage points over Kerry, he won 286 electoral votes, over 3.3 million popular vote more than Kerry and, of course, re-election.
But with a Rayburn House Office Building meeting room as the backdrop, Judiciary Committee Democrats, liberal special interest groups and individuals like Rainbow PUSH Coalition founder Jesse Jackson Wednesday alleged that the election had been marred by fraud and malfunctioning voting machines.
Walcott told the group assembled that Zogby International had questions of its own pertaining to the election. -- Zogby Polling Seeks Damage Control After Election Day Flub
Obama’s father was half black half arab.
Barry is less than half black.
“..... it would take the race card out of play...”
As much as I would like to agree, I doubt that very much.
Cain responses to the Niggerhead Rock garbage gave the impression that he was playing the race card. Perhaps he wasn’t, but it looked like he was.
Perhaps he simply wasn’t informed, but he should have made himself aware of the facts before he opened his mouth.
Until my perception is changed on this issue, regardless of all the happy talk, Cain will NOT get my support.
Disclaimer: I have not been and I am not a Perry supporter, but on the Niggerhead issue, he was screwed by the media-— with Cain’s help.
This is not to throw cold water on Cain, or even the enthusiasm in this thread, but I will not truck with anyone citing Zogby as an authority on anything.
No, he is not 1/2 black, he’s 1/4 black, 1/4 Arab ......and 100% Marxist and 95% Muslim and 1000% Malignant Narcissist moron.
Zogby’s poll is an outlier. It appears that the rest of the national polls have Cain 20 points lower than Zogby does.
No matter how much we like Cain, we MUST question the methodology when a poll result like this turns up.
Search khe back and forth between Cain and Clinton back in the 90s. It will give you a pretty clear picture.
What is very interesting to consider is Obama having a simular back and forth conversation with Mr Cain about [pick a topic]
I can hear Obama mostly making stuff up while off the teleprompter “ah,ah,um,ah”
Meanwhile, Mr Cain respectfully corrects his “miscalculations” while also giving solid solutions.
THAT is the BEST Cain slogan I have seen!
Aggreed, how come none of the other polls have him any more than in a dead heat?
I didn’t cite a pollster. I indicated that I had gone to Cains’ Website and made a donation.

I think Cain could wipe the floor with McCain, so against Obama it would be really interesting to see if he may help the floor get its shine back.
Anyway, the rest of you Texans seem to like because you keep voting him in and all that.
I like how he handled Planned Parenthood
I kind of wish he had an "empty-suit" like that in Pennsylvania instead of the empty suits we got.
My bad. Donate away!
When did we start taking on-line polls seriously?
Obama is unable
That’s it I’m having a Herman Cain surge party tonight and inviting all my friends.
The book tour and campaign are not mutually exclusive.
The book is subtitled “My Road to the White House” and is designed to introduce Herman Cain to the public at large. He’s also meeting lots of people at his signing events, in a very “grass roots” fashion.
It’s an unorthodox campaign strategy but as he is the true Tea Party candidate it’s very fitting, isn’t it?
He was in the area on Wednesday but I already had plans. I’m so bummed I didn’t get to meet him. I went to three bookstores today to try to get his book and it was sold out. So I’m ordering it online. BTW he used to have an autographed copy available for a $150.00 donation but it is no longer on his site, I figure it sold out there too. I’ve been a monthly donor since he announced but I wish I had made the additional donation to get the autographed book.
After all, he’s the next President of the United States :-)
YES YES YES YES YES!
You were saying . . . establishment, about Cain’s chances?
