Rick Perrys taking a swing at Mitt Romney on the issue of energy, releasing a messaging video this morning that accuses his opponent of adopting Obama-style policies on carbon emissions.
The video, which landed in Morning Score, says Romney implemented job-killing carbon caps in Massachusetts. The closing frame reads: Romney & Obama: Carbon Copies.
And theres a clip of Romney speaking at an anti-coal plant rally, declaring: I will not create jobs or hold jobs that kill people, and that plant, that plant kills people.
This is an attack that will probably be more powerful if it becomes part of a larger case about how Romney handled the economy as governor of Massachusetts. Perry has already criticized Romney for implementing a health care law that he calls hostile to job creation.
To follow through, his campaign will have to make a sustained, negative case about Romneys trustworthiness as a job creator. At some point, Perry will have to deliver that argument effectively himself.
Perry environmental stance would transform EPA ....>>>>>Perry "approaches the issues from a very libertarian bent," said Jim DiPeso , policy director of Republicans for Environmental Protection. "The EPA would be in for some significant budget reduction. There would be no new intiatives, no regulatory programs that would be initated. There'd be litigation from environmental groups that believe he's not enforcing the Clean Air Act and Water Act as robustly as the law provides."
"Any regulatory programs would be really throttled back," he said. "He has shown no interest in climate policy at all. He doesn't accept the science."
With the governor's blessing, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is challenging at least six EPA greenhouse gas-related regulations. The state's underlying argument: The fundamental finding that greenhouse gases are a public health threat is scientifically flawed.
The federal government is pushing "hastily enacted, cascading regulations" on states and businesses, Abbott argued in a June brief filed on behalf of nine states in federal court.
Perry's approach to energy, DiPeso said, "would be to produce more," rather than discourage the development of energy projects, such as coal plants, that emit greenhouse gases associated with global warming.
"In terms of energy, (Perry) would pursue what many Republicans call the 'all of the above' strategy, with more energy development offshore and onshore," DiPeso said. <<<<<
Cross-state pollution edict: Finding middle ground on EPA-Texas electric squabble [EPA doesnt do middle ground] Texas' grudge match with the Environmental Protection Agency is getting nastier and riskier, with the fallout threatening to reach the state's power grid. Want another reason to worry about the lights staying on? Or how about another hit to the economy? You've heard lots of political posturing about Texas' way of life being threatened by an overreaching federal government. This time, Gov. Rick Perry has a point. ..
Don't be surprised if the attorney general jumps in after Perry slammed the rule for threatening Texas jobs and families and putting reliable, affordable electricity at risk. Late last week, 31 members of Congress from Texas, including eight Democrats, signed a letter to the White House asking for relief. The utility commission also filed objections with the EPA.
Texas officials and the EPA have been clashing over air pollution and environmental issues for the past decade. The conflict has deepened under the Obama administration as the EPA turned more aggressive and Perry sharpened his attacks on Washington.
Romney & Obama: Carbon Copies.

Does the election come down to Cain or Perry, and if it does, where do the two stand relative to both experience and conservative values? I’m not 100% thrilled with Cain’s experience, nor am I as impressed as I’d like to be with Perry’s record. Still, both are MUCH better than Romney and dramatically better than Obama, which is faint praise considering that even a global Ebola epidemic would be better than four more years of Obama (at least the free world could recover after Ebola).
Show me a toe tag that says "killed by a coal plant".
Good for him. I loath Mittens for his stance on every issue that's important to me, and until Cain decided that we should have a national sales tax AND an income tax I was willing to overlook his liberal stance on the second amendment. But it's madness to institute a national sales tax (a wealth tax) and an income tax. Bachmann has imploded. So It looks like Perry is going to be my first choice.

who does they think is watching these? People getting up at 6 to go to work at 7 every day and getting home at 6Pm with tired hungry kids?
GET REAL
Welcome aboard.
There is nothing here from the RINO Perry.
This is a Politico for Romney piece that a PerryBOT
cannot recognize as being antiPerry.
WHERE are actual quotes from Rick?
As the proRomney article says,
“At some point, Perry will have to deliver that argument effectively himself.”
Here was another chance for Perry to be a conservative.
But like the weak RINO he is (even against Romney)
the Rove-derived Texan whiffed it.
[Come on, Rick. How about some ‘cattle’ to match the hat.]
Great ad.

In addition to POLITICO, his work has appeared in National Journal and American Heritage magazine.]
Harvard mafia shilling for its own.
He says: Believe Cain is setting up the same routine vs Perry that Huckabee did against McCain in 2008, that is to work with Romney, stay in the race and do everything possible to split the conservative (Tea Party this year) vote so as to put Romney in as the nominee.
There are so many folks just like him...kinda in the shadows who are working to elect Rick Perry. The polls aren't reflecting the truth on how many are for Rick Perry.
Thanks. That’s great news.
Great ad, I like the fact they used the Obama logo in the “Sound Familiary”. LOL!
Ooops, where did the extra “y” come from? I need coffee!
“There is nothing here from the RINO Perry.

Wrong-there is a very damning ad from the Perry team regarding Romney’s position in favor of carbon caps as Mass gov. This is a very effective ad. And let me further point out that I have yet to see ONE ad from ANY of the other so-called conservative candidates pointing out Romney’s obvious similarities with Obama, nor have I heard any of them bring these up on stage in the debates.
If we can agree that Romney is clearly an unacceptable RINO that MUST not win the nomination, than shouldn’t we expect the candidate we do get behind to also recognize this as well? The fact that no other candidates have stepped forward to utter one negative syllable about Mitt makes me wonder if they’re really conservative at all and/or if they’re really interested in stopping Mitt and actually winning the nomination themselves. Perry, for all his faults, is at least willing to go after the real targets here-Mitt in the primary and Obama in the general.
