They are wrong about the web cam. This is one of our historic buildings, dating back to the late 1800s, I think. I began my collegiate studies in the building, as did my husband and the other music majors. The band rehearsed in the top floor and there were studios and a small concert hall, very small. A lot of memories were made in that building.

Ping to the list again. I’ll try to keep y’all updated. Since the cam is working they must have electricity. Since there is still power, it must be not too terrible. I hope. Maybe.

Hope all is ok. Heading to Auburn Sunday for a War Eagle Day with my high school senior daughter on Monday. She has several friends already at Auburn.

Not the first fire on the Auburn campus:

LSU defeated Auburn 19-15 in 1996 while the old Auburn Sports Arena, affectionately called “the Barn”, burned to the ground across the street from Jordan-Hare Stadium. After scoring a touchdown, Auburn trailed 17-15 and attempted the two-point conversion. LSU intercepted the pass and returned it for a 19-15 win. The fire began when a tailgater placed a barbecue grill too close to the building. Scenes of the fire were captured by ESPN during the national broadcast as flames were seen as high as the Jordan-Hare east upper-deck. The game was never delayed, and the Auburn public address announcer continually advised fans not to worry: “the stadium [was] not on fire; the flames [were] outside the stadium.” Because of the fire and the thrilling finish, the game became known as the “Barn Burner”.

It’s Auburn University. There is no such school as you posted. :-) But there is the University of Alabama.

I think that was the building that we practiced in for a performance of The Messiah when I was in school. I hate to see any of the old buildings harmed.

Update from this morning's OA news:

A fire in the attic space of Auburn University’s Hargis Hall Thursday evening has caused moderate fire and water damage and displaced 15 administrative personnel in the school’s graduate studies offices.

Auburn Fire Division Chief Lee Lamar said firefighters received the call just before 6 p.m. and upon arrival observed fire and smoke coming from the steeple windows of the building.

“The building’s sprinkler system activated, which activated the fire alarm,” Lamar said.

The sprinklers confined the fire to one spot as fire crews made entry into an attic area, extinguishing the fire. Water weight from the sprinkler systems caused the ceilings of at least two office spaces directly below the steeple to collapse, Lamar said.

Personnel were present in the building at the time of the fire but all escaped without injury, Lamar said.

“Hopefully by early next week, workers can get to other offices not affected by the fire, but several of them are going to be shut down for a while,” Lamar said.

Susan McCallister, AU associate director of public safety information and education, said while it is not known how long the graduate school’s administrative personnel will be displaced as a result of the fire, a location to relocate the staff has already been found.

Fire watch was posted Thursday night and the building will be turned over to AU facilities workers on Friday so they can begin repairs, Lamar said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Well the web cam sure looks like it has seen better days now. It looks wet and rainy there, but radar shows clear skys in the area. Probable received some water hose action.
