WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., called on House Democrats Tuesday at a closed Democratic Caucus meeting to approve a resolution critical of Texas Gov. Rick Perry for not having removed a racially offensive slur from a rock at his family’s hunting camp.
The racially charged name of the site, "N – head," was first reported in a Washington Post story Sunday.
The Perry presidential campaign disputed the account and said the rock with the offensive word at the entrance of the leased hunting area in Throckmorton County, Texas, had been painted over at Perry’s instruction in the early 1980s. The Post story cited seven people who had seen it and said the word was visible, even after it was painted over with white paint, as recently as this summer.
Jackson circulated a draft resolution Tuesday among Democratic members that condemns Perry and calls on him and all other GOP candidates who haven’t apologized, to do so. A Democratic staffer made a copy of the draft resolution available to McClatchy Newspapers.
GOP candidate Herman Cain, who is African-American, was sharply critical of Perry on Sunday talk shows for being "insensitive" on race.
Jackson spokesman Frank Watkins said that the lawmaker, the son of activist Rev. Jesse Jackson, made a case for a privileged resolution on the House floor condemning the Texas governor for tolerating the offensive word.
"He felt all Americans were offended by this," said Watkins. "They listened very carefully. There was rapt attention."
Perry spokesman Mark Miner said of Jackson, "This sounds like nothing more than a political ploy by someone who doesn’t have all the facts."

Cain stumbled and some people do see that except for the Perry haters. What they don’t understand is that if he used the race card against Perry he will use it against any person that gets in his way.
My guess is he would use it in a heartbeat against Sarah Palin if she was in his way.

Rick Perry is a RINO and as the US sees more of his true colors, they see a man who is cut from the same cloth as G.W. Bush and is the same kind of one world government RINO.
Cain, Bachmann and Santorum are the only conservatives running.
Anyone would beat Obama. Why would we intentionally waste this, our last opportunity, by nominating a RINO?
By doing so we will be preventing the salvage, by man, of our devastated nation and much of the world's economy and morality.
The only thing that will be able to save the world will be God's divine intervention. Not that that would be bad in the end, it is just that there will be a great magnitude of suffering right now.
It seems we should really try to do the best we can here and now and that includes heavy practice of prayer to minimize the chastisement which, as it stands now, because of the path we are on, is coming sooner rather than later.

I think you are going WAYYYY out of your way to make this a bigger deal than it is. For that matter, a black student is also given the nod if their scores are good enough to enter college. I could use your argument and say that isn’t fair to whites either. And yet, in this example, it has nothing to do with instate tuition for undocumented hispanics. I just wish you would get beyond this issue and examine the broader picture.
I’m not in favor of giving black students preferences either. Like Thomas Sowell, I believe they are better off at schools that match their capability and skills level.
But they are (overwhelmingly) legal residents. No illegals are, and yet we’ve got even some of the same students who didn’t make the entrance, despite greater qualifications, having to subsidize their education.
What exactly is the larger picture that I’m missing? That pointing out the obvious situation here doesn’t help Perry in his bid to be our president?
Beginning in 1998, all students in the state of Texas who graduated in the top ten percent of their high school classes were guaranteed admission to any in-state public higher education institution, including the flagships. While the goal of this policy is to improve college access for disadvantaged and minority students, the use of a school-specific standard to determine eligibility could have unintended consequences. Students may increase their chances of being in the top ten percent by choosing a high school with lower-achieving peers. Our analysis of students’ school transitions between 8th and 10th grade three years before and after the policy change reveals that this incentive influences enrollment choices in the anticipated direction. Among the subset of students with both motive and opportunity for strategic high school choice, as many as 25 percent enroll in a different high school to improve the chances of being in the top ten percent. Strategic students tend to choose the neighborhood high school in lieu of more competitive magnet schools and, regardless of own race, typically displace minority students from the top ten percent pool. The net effect of strategic behavior is to slightly decrease minority students’ representation in the pool.
That there are much bigger problems that Perry can fix - than to focus so much energy on tuition rates for 1% of college students in Texas. And that 12 other states have the identical policy but it only became horrifying when Perry was asked about it. And he has no intention of promoting this on the national level. Its a state's rights issue and he believes in the 10th amendment.
The voters he wants to create through amnesty would be the end to the GOP and conservative principles in this country. His pro-illegals attitude sure does matter.
He’s the last thing we need as president and the GOP should not be the party promoting his candidacy. Thankfully, however, people are finding out and figuring it out in plenty of time.
Jesse Jackson is a big doofus who doesn’t deserve to be mentioned. He’s an enemy to all races, including his own b/c of his race-baiting and ultra-leftist. Still, that doesn’t make Rick Perry any less thick-headed and tone deaf.

The topic is minority admissions. You get the first portion of your info correct - then - switch to the bait and switch -

Your data is a fine example of modern weak thinking. This is the modern propaganda style. Three sentences about topic A, followed by a conclusion statement that LOOKS like it applies to topic A - but actually reports on topic B.
The topic is minority representation. Not STRATEGIC BEHAVIOR.

That top 10% solution, which I believe Jeb Bush also used in FL, was of course simply intended to yield affirmative action results without the express use of quotas per se. And that has been the result. My point still stands, as ET seems to have realized.
You said "top 25% or whatever it is" in a suggestion that it wouldn't take much for a hispanic to get into the top "25%" of a high school with a mostly hispanic population.
I illustrated with FACTS that your notion is false. Students in Texas move to the very districts you point to and bump ALL MINORITIES down in the pecking order to get into college.
That's the truth and you can pound sand yourself.

I just noticed this recent Leftist writing pattern - an improvement on the usual straw man and ad-homenim - the other day. The “topic A”, “topic A”, “topic A”, “Conclusion about topic B sounding like it is about topic A” - pattern a few days ago.
Of course - caught with pants down - the poster responds with the usual shrieks and personal attacks - instead of an apology. Just the usual.
It is an improvement over their old sheer idiocy. They have been doing it lately with “taxpayers” and “citizens” denied the vote -”voters”, “voters”, “voters”, “Citizens” - where of course children are counted as citizens - etc. Look for it - it is kind of nifty. At frst glance you don’t see it.
In Texas - I think the rules for admission are based on High School class rank.
If you go to a minority/hispanic school =- pretty easy to come in top 25% - or whatever the magic cutoff point is.
Not FORMAL minority advantage - but an intentional mechanism to help lower performing minorities gain admission.
You were right to jump the comment - but Texas has some odd rules that - in practice - assist lower performing minorities.
