Top Republicans blasted Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday after reports surfaced that he might have known about the controversial Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation earlier than he previously claimed.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) tweeted, What part of Q, When did you first know about the program known as Fast and Furious? didn't AG Holder understand?
McCain has asked for a Senate hearing into the operation.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who is conducting the inquiry as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, retweeted McCain's Twitter post, along with links to news reports. Issa has used Twitter extensively to push for transparency during his committees ongoing investigation into the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives operation that might have led to the death of a Border Patrol agent.
Two other Arizona Republicans, Reps. Ben Quayle and Trent Franks, also took interest in the story, with Franks tweeting a link to a conservative blog post about Holder.
The gun-running operation took place in the Southwest, and has consequentially been a central issue for congressmen from that region.
May be McCain is hoping he will get the nomination again at GOP due to a deadlock between candidates.
Maybe McLame will get so upset he will recommend waterboarding Holder.
Oh, sure...he’s soooo concerned about chaos driving Mexies into the USA, suuuure....Yeah, he’s soooo tough and mad, sure...
This man has always disgusted me —now more than ever.
CANNOT WAIT for this insect to crawl away in defeat.
Even an old crock is right once in a while.
When did Holder become a conservative?
piss off mccain and anybody who endorsed you
Hey John, these are the same people you crossed the aisle compromising to the left with throughout your career the maverick you are.
Must .. . Not . . . . Let . . . T partiers, . . . Hobbitts. . . . . . urggggggggh
Good Lord, or we now in the era of Governing By Tweet?
Twittering nabobs..
The corruption at the Injustice Department stretches all the way to Obama’s desk. Not just in this case but in the case involving his pals in the New Black Panthers election poll voter intimidation case.
Uh-oh... Having McCain step forward does concern me a bit. However, these Senators coming forward calling for an investigation could signal that Issa got enough really damning evidence to *go for it*. There is definitely increasing pressure, and the WH and DOJ are feeling it for SURE.
I hate to be pessimistic, but I worry that this may be an attempt to use Holder as a fall guy to save Obama... McCain hasn’t exactly been on the side of the people for a while now.
McCain never saw a bandwagon he wouldn’t hop on once it was clear it had an audience.
With literally dozens of good reasons to be.
Hey McCain, what’s in it for you?
Whats the big deal, Juan? Bush did it too. /sarc
I don’t think it’s true that there is no way to prosecute Holder. There HAS to be a way to hold him more responsible than merely taking his job. Is there anything to protect him from prosecution even AFTER he has been forced to resign and or is impeached? Is there any way at all for SCOTUS to issue an indictment? What about a Federal Grand Jury?
I really don’t think Holder will be able to draw this out for another year - honestly, Holder and Obama and the administration itself is already imploding in the stress of the scandals lately. The press is also starting to realize this is WAY too big to ignore.
I’m concerned that some folks will NOT be held accountable, but I’m not so pessimistic that they’ll be able to skate through the election.
Also, in light of the dearth of scandals surrounding this administration what I am hoping for is that after so many instances of proven problems (ignoring voter intimidation, solyndra, fast & furious, and more...) I’m wondering if Issa might not have enough to REALLY go after the Administration - throwing so many different charges at them on so many different subjects that there is no way they’ll beat all the raps... I’m thinking along the lines of a RICO type prosecution, but I do understand it’s probably wishful thinking.
He can recuse himself and appoint an independent counsel. Like THAT is going to happen
Is there anything to protect him from prosecution even AFTER he has been forced to resign and or is impeached?
Once he is removed from office, the new Attorney General can bring an indictment and prosecute him. The statute of limitations for lying to Congress is probably 3 years. If Obama is not re-elected, the new Justice Department can bring charges.
Is there any way at all for SCOTUS to issue an indictment?
No. No. No.
What about a Federal Grand Jury?
The Attorney General would be the one to bring the issue to the Grand Jury. Think Holder is going to indict himself?
He must be impeached. Congress must DEMAND his resignation and if Obama doesn't fire him, then Obama should be impeached.
Was Janet Reno ever held responsible for Ruby Ridge or Waco? People died then, too.

Yes. That's why I think this is good news. It shows which way the wind is blowing.
