Obama seeks debt collector proposal
North County Times ^ | October 4, 2011 | AP

To the dismay of consumer groups and the discomfort of Democrats, President Barack Obama wants Congress to make it easier for private debt collectors to call the cellphones of consumers delinquent on student loans and other billions owed the federal government.

The change "is expected to provide substantial increases in collections, particularly as an increasing share of households no longer have landlines and rely instead on cellphones," the administration wrote recently. The little-noticed recommendation would apply only to cases in which money is owed the government, and is tucked into the mammoth $3 trillion deficit-reduction plan the president submitted to Congress.

Despite the claim, the administration has not yet developed an estimate of how much the government would collect, and critics reject the logic behind the recommendation.

They should have gotten a job as a plumber or electrician.

You are quite right of course. Probably half the people in college have no business being there.

But you can't spend for years being drunk while training for those jobs, so they go and major in queer studies instead.

I saw an interviewer ask some of these protesters why they were there. They said they didn’t know (and why did it matter) only that they were upset — that it was good to come together and protest when you’re upset [end paraphrasing].

You can see from their signs they aren’t the brightest bulbs (well you don’t need a sign to know that).

A guest on the same show said that these protester aren’t for anything, that they’re against everything Obama is against — that this is his base.

(shaking head) Barry, Barry, Barry.
Why are you wasting all this time and effort with these halfway measures? Just get down to your real plan of having *special* RFID Chips inserted into the necks of everyone taking out a student loan.

When *Rich White Kid* misses two payments you can have your flying pet monkey Eric Holder push the magic button and have their head blown off. Then the DOJ can swoop in with a Cleanup Crew and sell the spare body parts for cash on the black market (no pun intended). One liver could pay for two years at Harvard for a Black Panther or some struggling Community Organizer -- and create an opening in a classroom to boot.

It's a 'win-win' situation for you and 'Holder's People'.

There's a special place in Hell waiting for these two -- It's right next to the 'Kennedy Wing'.

Guess what?

Gov. Perry is pushing a plan to reduce the cost of higher education. To get a better look at department work, he advocates separating teaching departments from research departments (those think tanks that eat up the money, provide a save and secure harbor for liberal thought so that they can publish progressive standards for us to follow — all paid for by those student loan payments).

Now that the Feds control student loans — this is a sweet deal for the Feds and it needs to be curtailed.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Ah!...But....Learning to be a safe and competent electrician or plumber takes years of ** real** study, **real** hard work, under the supervision of** real** grown-ups and in the end there are **real** exams to pass.

What? Why do that when they can do fake learning and lots of play in taxpayer subsidized playgrounds ( oops! colleges).

When I see this picture of these “young skulls full of mush” (Not Rush originally - Prof. Charles Kingsfield in “Paper Chase”) I am reminded of what brought a young Corsican artillery officer to fame - “A wiff of Grapeshot”.

"these kiddies aren't going to like this!"

They don't read newspapers so they'll never find out! Obama and the rest of the Democrats are banking on it! (BTW, it looks like a good part of the crowd is made up of photographers and gawkers.)

The science research departments are the ones getting grants that bring no small amount of money into the university coffers. There are standard overhead percentages paid to the school directly for support of maintenance and operations costs. From a business point of view, these research departments are profit centers.

Sure, let’s go after th student loans (after government took over the entire industry). That ought to get the attention of the shutdown Wal St. crowd.

How about they go after all failed stimulus receivers? I’m sure Solyndra has a few execs with cellphones, how about GM, JPM, etc?

Another patently absurb piece of legislation offered when the real issues are being backburnierd, such as a BUDGET.

OK, back in the stone ages (early to mid 1900s) the Federal Government had NOTHING to do with post-secondary education. I do not know what was the first step but I think it was the GI Bill for post-WW2 veterans. However even that was aimed at the individual veteran and not the institutions / colleges.

Now we have this entire section of the economy COMPLETELY DEPENDENT upon the US Government. As of 2010, our beneficent bureaucrats loan money to students for an ever increasing education cost, give grants to educators for everything under and beyond the sun, control innumerable aspects of educations life under such specifications as Title IX and now pursue people for unpaid loans.

Yet, read as I might, I find absolutely NOTHING regarding this entire effort in our supposed governing document called the US CONSTITUTION! How wondrously strange.

Gee, I misread the title...thought Ozero was seeking a job as a debt collector when his term of office ends (sooner than later I hope).

Reminds me of another incompetent who headed up an organization in DC. After he was fired for incompetence, someone asked me where he was employed. I responded, he is working for the City of Alexandria Virginia now. When pushed to enhance my answer, I said, he is working as right side can puller on truck number 7 from what I gather.

you really have to wonder what he’s doing, i mean everything he’s done in the last few days is like pleading with the democratic party to boot him out of the WH, its almost as if he is purposely wanting them to remove the nomination from him so he does not have to do it himself.

Pretty funny considering these are the idiots who voted for this *train wreck* and will be hounded incessantly about their student loans by the train wreck’s minions.

The idiot college-kid demonstrators on Wall Street might read these reports, but being abject idiots committed to their cause of abject delusions, they would ignore and deny this. They and their friends will get caught in the snare of debt collections, and many will despair.

When that happens though, they will be alone, shy of all human contact, and no longer borne in protective cocoons atop these mass waves of faux-protest. Then they will be REAL victims, trapped by their folly in the times their lives were protected and rich without effort.
