Senior Military Intelligence officer Frank Ledwidge found shock figures showing 256 senior officers Brigadiers and Generals and just 200 Challenger 2 tanks.
And there are THREE times more Top Brass than Apache helicopters which have saved countless lives in Afghanistan.
Ledwidge said: "Our priorities are hugely skewed."
He stressed that the British Army is "over-burdened and over staffed with senior ranks".
Ledwidge, who served on the front line in Iraq, Bosnia and Kosovo, urged the Ministry of Defence to slash the number of £100,000-a-year-plus senior officers.
He insisted: "We need to think about cutting Top Brass and the focus now should be on our conflicts rather than promotion."

That is just classic for a bloated, listless, welfare state isn’t it?
Just sayin...

Government is not about solving problems, and it’s not about winning wars either. Government is about dividing up the spoils. And the spoils come from looting the serfs.
The United States has 2-3 times the number of flag officers as there were at the height of WW II.
So the entire British Army is about equal to one US Armored division? Wow.
Sorta begs the question why we bother with European “allies,” doesn’t it?
Some sense of priorities.
“So the entire British Army is about equal to one US Armored division? Wow.”
Don’t worry, China’s making up for it.
Tanks can be built, officers are needed in peacetime in order to train and build the armed forces to use the tanks etc. Thanks smokingfrog.
before you clowns start criticizing the brits...just understand that we are well on our way to the same damn predicament. There was a time when 3 stripes was rare. nowdays everyone worth a spit has 3 stripes
rank inflation is just as rampant as grade inflation. You used to have to work your ass off to get just one frickin stripe. now you get 3 just for being worth your chow. As in college, a BA/BS with a 3.0 is now meaningless.

The US Army/US Army Air Corps had about 1240 generals. I don’t know how many admirals or Marine Corps genarals.
I might be way off on the army generals.
In the old days they’d have called it “too many chiefs and not enough Chieftans.”
Do the Brits have any warships left or are they all under middle eastern flags, assuming they still float.
The US has borne the brunt of Europe’s defense for so long that they no longer felt threatened and proceeded to spend more and more on social giveaways and less and less as a share of NATO.Now if we pull our support they’d collapse like a house of cards.

Dont worry, Chinas making up for it.
We only have one Armored division.
I think they had to mothball their aircraft carrier when they got rid of their Harriers. They have a few assorted submarines, destroyers, minesweepers, frigates, transport ships, etc
There was an old article written back after WWI that highlighted this same phenomena . The British faced the same problem after decommissioning many ships. The joke was the British had the largest navy on dry land.
