Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?
Herman Cain is surging in popularity in a number of polls. So why is Herman Cain putting his campaign on hold for the next month?
The Hermantor Experience is, by almost any measure, the hottest thing going in the GOP presidential primary (not named Chris Christie).
< snip>
But Cain seems destined to squander it. And heres why.
As NBCs thoughtful First Read points out this morning, Cain's promoting a book - and appears to be taking himself off the campaign trail for almost a month.
Cain wont be back in the key state of Iowa until November. With all of the jiggering of the Republican primary calendar, that means hell have six weeks (at best) to pound the trail before the Iowa caucuses in early January.
Perhaps equally telling, Cain's well-regarded communications director and her deputy are both leaving the campaign, with the director headed to run press operations for Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne in a tough primary election. Thats not exactly a vote of confidence in Cains presidential prospects.
< snip>
When you peel off the campaign trail for four weeks in the heat of the fight, it raises questions about just what the heck a candidate is doing in the race anyway. ....
< snip>
When you take yourself off the campaign trail just to flog a book, it raises the question: Why are you still around, Herman Cain? And whats the real motive behind this run?

HAD to write and share this with you folks...
I JUST watched the 10pm news coverage on our local CBS affiliate... All the folks still up in arms saying that Cain is pushing this whole thing are SO WRONG!!!
They covered the dust-up, and then had a video clip of Cain saying - it was on a rock, it was painted, it’s over with. (paraphrased as I don’t have it on DVR or anything).
Cain basically DEFENDED Perry today... To those bashing Cain so much over this, “stick that in your pipe and smoke it”. (Admitting that at this point I’m REALLY starting to like Cain...)
Herman Cain’s Twitter account has this entry listed 13 minutes ago:

I will be on the @theviewtv tomorrow morning at 11am ET! Tune in!
He doesn’t look like he is taking time off to me.
Same thing tonight on Hannity: http://www.mofopolitics.com/2011/10/03/herman-cain-on-hannity-10311/
A legitimate question has been raised.
You offer nothing but emotions.
When you know the facts, let us all know.
Ummm... Why would "the truth" of a book tour scheduled for four weeks between now and November be determined in the next 24 hours? Do you know something we don't?
In the next month, is Cain going to be engaged in serious courting of the major donors required to succeed in a serious campaign or is he going to be courting book buyers to cash in on book sales?
If you know the "truth", share it. Sharing your emotion does not really add anything to the issue.
I wish I could disagree. Perry’s heartless comment offended me as well. I guess I try to see it through his eyes since I’m originally from San Diego. Illegals are a huge part of that population and it’s a different world. Not forgiving the remark, it was stupid but I will support whoever we nominate.
Please, don’t let your disenchantment with the field put Obama in for a second term. I’m begging all conservatives to get in the fight to stop the tyranny.
Total smarta** comment warning:
He’s probably just jealous because people have made fun of Perry’s book - Rove called it Perry’s *biggest problem* a month ago.
Thanks for the link. I’ll check it out now. :)
Obama’s book sent him to the top of the charts, especially with with the socialist radicals, and guilt plagued white liberals. Maybe Cain figures he can do the same with his book, but directed at true American values.
Besides, the more books he sells, the more money he has to finance his run. Since the RINO GOP establishment sure as heck ain’t behind him.
Go Cain! Sell your book. Then get your arse back in it. You got thirty days, and I want an autographed one.
You are lying. He said “Today”. That does NOT say he would not eventually support Perry if he became the nominee. It says he doesn’t support him to become the nominee at this time.
Perry's position is that you put a Fence in high population areas and not in the middle of a desert where a Fence will:
1.) Be easily defeated
2.) Have the Federal Government STEAL 100% OF THE RIO GRANDE RIVERGRONT PROPERTY FROM TEXAS PROPERTY OWNERS AND PUT IT ON MEXICO'S SIDE OF A FENCE.
Perry advocated BOOTS ON THE GROUND.
Guess who is really smart about border security?
The Israelis.
Guess who is not dumb enough to build a Fence in the middle of the Negev Desert?
The Israelis.
Guess who is being attacked by Yankees from Massachusetts and Minnesota who do not know the first thing about the realities of the Israeli desert or the Texas desert?
Rick Perry.
I think that that statement is highly disputable. I don't remember it that way.

Herman Cain in 2008

Ouch, that stinks. Hope you’re feeling better now/soon!
“Ridiculous is right.
Cain just brought in a top tier communications director JD Gordon (Pentagon/Rumsfeld spokesman) - he started today.
Hes doing well in the polls, beating Romney is most of them.
His book is part of getting his name out - its called This is Herman Cain - My Journey to the White House.
His support for Romney was in 2008 when most of FR supported Romney because was better than McCain. He has been critical of Romney in regards to Romneycare both recently and in 2007.
And no, Herman would never, NEVER vote for Obama. Insane.”
Herman Cain won the Illinois Tea Party poll this weekend, by one of the biggest margins yet:
10. Johnson 0%
9. Hunstman 0%
8. Obama 0.2%
7. Santorum 1.4%
6. Paul 1.8%
5. Romney 2.6%
4. Perry 3%
3. Gingrich 3.8%
2. Bachmann 9.4%
1. Cain 77.5%
Herman Cains positive intensity score has been the highest every week, until the week Rick Perry announced, and Perry got a little bump - then Herman was back on top the next.
I expect that he will be staying on top of that one, as more people find out about about Perrys Hispanic pandering.
Closer look at Perry = less support.
Closer look at Herman = more support.
Right now Perry is the shiny new penny, but people are going to start taking a closer look at him.
As people start looking at the other way of looking at the two man race, the Positive Intensivity scores on Gallup, Herman is the only one who really has it all.
Remember, talk is cheap for politicians at election time.
And shame on Rush and the “conservative” media for going with the headlines, instead of looking at what Herman actually said.
Nice try. Not really.
So given that the choices for Cain in 2008 were Romney, McCain, Huckabee, and Paul, who would you have preferred Cain to have endorsed, and why?
This ought to be good.
I think that his 9-9-9 plan deserves a much closer look. The first 9 is corporate tax, and I think that at that rate , it's much higher than their current tax on profits only, WHICH IS ULTIMATELY PAID BY CONSUMERS.
The second 9 is personal flatrate income tax, and that is much higher than what is (or is not) paid by the poorest citizens. (I am against the poorest getting a complete free ride or even a negative income tax. ALL should pay something!)
And the third 9 is of course the 9% federal sales tax which is IN ADDITION TO MY 8.25% state+county+city sales tax, equalling 17.25% for myself.
Overall, all three of those taxes add up to about 35.25%.
And BTW, my property taxes are still there, and still rising most years.
As I posted to you before, FACTS count. Emotions do not.
What you posted was nothing but emotion.
THIS is a developing fact.
Just sit back and be shamed.
Yes, he did kick off his book tour, there and in Milton. I posted this to the Georgia group several weeks ago. He’s not leaving the campaign trail
WHAT is your POINT?
The part of that statement that I disagreed with was the “most of FR supported Romney because was better than McCain.” I just included the complete sentence for clarity. I don’t believe that Romney ever had much support on FR.
