New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has joined the chorus of conservatives slamming Rick Perry for his support of a Texas law that gives in-state college tuition rates to illegal immigrants who promise to pursue citizenship.
ABC News reports that Christie took Perry's position head on in a speech Tuesday night at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.

OK...so far, so good: what about the Second Amendment, guv’nor?
Christie is clueless on immigration — talk is cheap.
And all the rest of you continue to MISPREPRESENT Perry’s position on illegal immigration. He wants to have strong border security, and HAS A RECORD of trying to secure the border, despite of insufficient help from the Federal government, whose responsibility is to do so. Perry wants to secure the border using methods that actually work: surveillance and boots on the ground.

Governing Principle
There can be no homeland security without border security, and there can be no higher priority than protecting our citizens.
While our focus begins with preventing the worst of the violence currently raging in northern Mexico from spilling over into the United States, the violence is only part of the destruction that can result from a porous border. The free flow of drugs, weapons and people resulting from inadequate security can undercut economic development, education and trade. As such, they can hurt Texas families in every way imaginable, from loss of jobs to the loss of family members to addiction, imprisonment or death.
Border security is a federal responsibility but a Texas problem, and Texas has invested hundreds of millions of state dollars in efforts to support and supplement security forces already in place. Still, this is a problem that will only be solved with more federal accountability and involvement.
Highlights
» Starting in 2005 with Operation Linebacker, the state has sought to provide funding, manpower and equipment to local law enforcement agencies operating along the Texas-Mexico border.
» The state’s latest operation, Border Star, builds on the successes of previous operations with unprecedented local, state and federal law enforcement coordination. With the assistance of the 80th and 81st Legislatures, the State of Texas has been able to appropriate more than $110 million each session to fund and amplify these efforts.
» In response to a rising tide of gang violence in Texas communities, the Governor allocated $4 million in criminal justice grants to cities across the state to increase patrols of gang hotspots. In 2009, Gov. Perry worked to secure more than $10 million in state funding for enhanced anti-gang efforts during the 2010-11 biennium.
» In September 2009, Gov. Perry announced the formation of highly-skilled Ranger Recon Teams â which include Texas Rangers, Texas National Guard Counterdrug forces, Highway Patrol and DPS Aviation assets â in order to address threats building in the unincorporated areas along the Texas-Mexico border.
» Since early 2009, Gov. Perry has repeatedly called on Washington to authorize the deployment of 1,000 Title 32 National Guard soldiers to the Texas-Mexico border to support border security operations currently underway. (see letter to President Obama, letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and request to Defense Secretary Gates)
» Gov. Perry has also recommended an expeditious deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles to provide real-time surveillance and intelligence to law enforcement on the ground.

Oh, no, we don’t need him running for president. We have enough imperfect candidates now, and he brings nothing new to the table. He’s not perfect, either.
Christie's last comment is a direct reference to Perry's statement in last week's debate that "if you say that we shout not educate children who come into our state for no other reason than they've been brought there by no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart."
We have that. Not nearly as effective as also having a fence. You and Perry just refuse to admit such, despite widespread evidence to the contrary.
As long as we’re “speaking ill of other Republicans”, how ‘bout recent positions on “man made global warming”, the ground zero mosque, and the second amendment?
I thought Christie was in favor of the illegal immigrants. I suspect ABC News is using Christie (who is not running) to attack Perry.
OUCH!!!!
Not that Christie doesn’t have his own ‘baggage’ on the issue.
And why is it New Jersey allows illegals to attend college with the same standards as legal American Students? Four states have prohibited state universities from considering undocumented students as residents, and eight have specifically permitted it, what about the other thirty-eight? They have not legislated on the matter at all. What is not prohibited is allowed.
CHRISTIE WILL SUCK ON IMMIGRATION,TOO!
SUPPORT CAIN or PALIN.
The Palin supporters conveniently overlook her squishy position.
Palin Position on Immigration
According to Palin there are 12 million illegal immigrants in the US and deporting them is not possible economically as well as it is not a humane way of dealing with the issue. They should be made to follow rules and made to understand that legal immigrants should have the first preference of opportunities provided by this great country. If they follow the rules they can be treated fairly and equally in the country.
Not having expressed her views on illegal immigration often, Sarah supports citizenship for illegal immigrants but feels there is no amnesty for the illegal immigrants. Priority should be given to the legal immigrants before granting opportunities to the illegal ones.
She has reached out to the illegal immigrants requesting their needs. She feels that they require more vocational training, the end of gang violence, assistance to seniors and mostly outreach and communication within their communities. Palin insists on a diversity task force.
We have fence as well.
sorry Chris I’m pulling for CAIN
You know either way we Texans win..If Perry becomes President that will help the whole country if he doesn't we will get him back home and he can continue fighting for us..So this is a win win for us..
He has to be better than Perry.
I read that Perry is against 2nd amendment rights.
I read it right here on FR.
Some of the BS that is being spread about Perry is pretty thick.
Whomever the GOP nominates...ABCBSNBCNNPBSNPR will go to work on them.
Already, Romney has a “weird” religion, Perry is stupid, as is Palin, Cain somehow isn’t a “real” candidate.
And we still don’t know how Obama got a social security card issued in Connecticut in 1977, a state he’d never been to at the time...and if you ask this question you are a “racist”.
What a country.
Good, I hope you keep him.
Not that his enticements to illegals don’t damgage the rest of us, because they do, but at least it’s on a smaller scale than if he were president.
I'm not really a Perry fan (I'm not discounting him yet, either), but until Mr Coulter cleans up his own backyard, he needs to shut his pie hole.
