Thanks abb.
A third project, worth $1.4 billion, will support installation of about 750 solar rooftop panels in 28 states.
That's nearly half of them!

None of these rooftop solar firms would exist without government subsidies of some sort.

A $20k system barely pencils out with a $6.5k tax credit.

You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. The loan guarantee for First Solar is just that - a guarantee that will never be used other than to get a lower interest rate.

Get a clue before you go spouting off.

look in the mirror. This "guarantee" WILL most definitely cost us money. It's laughable that someone would believe otherwise.

Also, what article and section of the United States Constitution authorizes such action?

No one who respects the Constitution would EVER think such action is moral or would "cost the taxpayers" nothing.

Green energy is nothing but an evil scam used to fleece the taxpayers.

Last year the US electrical power needs were nearly 4,000,000 megawatts. There is no way any green energy will ever amount to anything but a very small percentage.

Money laundering and robbery. Plain and simple.
When is the FBI going to arrest the recipients and the perps?

Speaking from a financial perspective the reason the United States taxpayers are forced to guarantee this foolish loan is because the private capital markets have already determined that it is "too risky" (i.e. almost certain to fail)

Let's come back here in two years and see if this fraud company still exists. It is highly unlikely. And lo and behold, our tax money will just be "pi**ed" away on another foolish "green" project.

On our news the other day I heard about solar panels going to be put on TRAC (Trade-Agriculture-Convention Center) building where I live. I thought what the heck how can they do that because I had talked to the County Commissioner last year and he told me the center is losing lots of money every day and we as tax payers are paying for it. When I read this thread and saw 28 states were going to get a grant, a bell went off and sure enough I found where they were getting the money to do this. More of OUR MONEY

It looks like the admin is scrambling as fast as they can to find any sort of “green” energy business they can that is even close to functional in order to stifle talk about fracking, natural gas, clean burning coal and especially hydroelectric since the aim of the loonie left is to demolish all dams.

First Solar just handed out their first (and only) contribution for 2012 to Diane Feinstein.

Apparently the 750 installations are on their own buildings, 750MGW worth, which is 1.87 million per MW. Someone we know pays .30 per KW/hr in California, 750MW/HR on the market at that rate would be $225,000/HR, or 5.4 million per day @ 100% availability.

Not houses, and they have the potential to make some real money with them if they will be tied to the grid.

A new 750 MW nuclear plant would cost 2.5+ billion to build.

More Pay for Play… Obama DOE Awarded $400 Million Loan Guarantee to Top Bundler’s Solar Investment Project

Like Solyndra’s George Kaiser, Colorado also features an Obama bundler whose direct investments included a solar company that received $400 million in loan guarantees from an enthusiastic and willing Obama administration.

Obama supporter Pat Stryker, who bundled $87,500 for the president in 2008, is a major investor in Abound Solar, a company that was awarded a $400 million stimulus loan. Obama even bragged about his support for the company in a July 2010 Weekly Address.

...Obama gifted the solar company with a $400 million loan guarantee after the election.

I used to “blame” the Jews for not fighting back in the holocaust and for making it easier for the Germans by digging their own graves and jumping in them.

I can’t say anything anymore because we are no better here. What will be the boiling point when we say enough is enough or won’t there be one? will we just go quietly into the night also? I’m ashamed. Ashamed of my fellow Americans and myself for not being the first to say “Never again”.

I knew they weren't houses and I read post 70 - and the link which regarded this: A third project, worth $1.4 billion, will support installation of about 750 solar rooftop panels in 28 states.

I also did some clicking. It's amazing what we can find this Internet thingy Al Gore invented. Like if you, I, or Joe the Plumber were ProLogis, we couldn't get a $500 Bank Loan for a Hot Dog Steamer. Let alone a $1,400,000,000 guaranteed loan (by us dumb Taxpayers) from the US Gubmint to put 750 Solar Panel installations on our warehouse roofs. Which by the way, works out to be $1,866,667 Dollars per roof installation.

In short, this company hasn't made a profit of one fricken penny since 2008 (that's where the data ends). But has that stopped them spending more money they don't have? Nope, not a chance.
Walter C. Rakowich, Co-Chief Exec. Officer, Trustee, Director & Head of the Exec. Committee, was 'compensated' $3,010,000 Million as of Dec 31, 2010.
William E. Sullivan, Chief Financial Officer, was 'compensated'(ditto above link) $1,160,000 Million as of Dec 31, 2010.
Mr. Edward S. Nekritz J.D., Chief Legal Officer, Gen. Counsel, and Sec., got a tidy sum (ditto above link)of $909,000 for 2010
Now I'm not exactly 'Stock Market Challenged' (ignorant) as I have done 'a bit' of trading in my time and I sure as heck can read market charts. Also, time spent as a De Facto General Manager of a small Corp I sure know what 'Profit' and 'Loss' mean and this Corp is poison.

So no offense but IMHO this gubmint loan to ProLogis borders on criminally stupid, or just plain criminal. This could be a bigger scandal than all those other 'Solar Loans' combined if it's found who these Executives contributed to, as in Obama and the Dem Party and 'friendly' Congresmen.

Pardon the slow reply, my computer has a severe lag due to a RAM issue. Rebooting is required at times.

No disagreement at all, Bay.

I have a few half-wits putting words in my mouth... The feds don’t have any right to be doing this, but if they’re going to, I’m glad to see a chunk of it going to FSLR. They already have that plant sold - to Conergy, iirc. The feds are guaranteeing an extremely safe construction loan, FSLR gets maybe a 1% cut in the loan rate, loan goes away when FLSR finishes the plant and Conergy closes.

Lets send the loonie left to China and have ‘em work on taking out dams there.

With the help of congressman Norm Dicks they are demolishing a hydroelectric dam near where I live. They want to seek sources for renewable and clean energy. (?) ...or yeah, and protect fish.

Which fish are they taking out this dam for? This a significant power dam, or are they just trashing people’s property values by draining the lake?

750 separate “rooftop” collectors in 28 different states.

$1.4 Billion.... simply insane.

make real money?? No, it wouldn’t need subsidies from the government if it could make “real money”.
