Sarah Palin told Fox News Greta Van Susteren this week that she was worried that the presidency could prove to be too shackling for her maverick style and somehow limit her.
Wednesday night, Jon Stewart took aim at her claims on "The Daily Show."
The biggest contemplation piece in your process is that becoming the president would diminish your power? Stewart asked. Youd be the f***ing president! You would be the commander-in-chief of historys greatest fighting force. What do you mean? What possibly do you mean? And dont misunderstand, I am not trying to talk you into running. It is just, by most peoples standards, the presidency is one of the higher level positions we have.
Stewart added: So heres the thing, you can have a colorful bus and drive to early primary states or you can go around telling people what you would do if you were president. But when you put those two together, theres really only two possibilities: you are either running for president of the United States or you are a crazy person.
I observe human beings professionally.
There are lots of PDS (Palin derangement syndrome) and PAS (Palin adoration syndrome) theories on this site, and any one of them may be correct.
The most probable thing, however, IMO is that there is some personal or family problem that is holding up what she obviously wants to do.
On September 3, she made references to "my plan", speaking about eliminating capital gains tax and tax breaks. Her Facebook notes, some of them, have been quite detailed about certain issues a President would need to deal with.
Before the VP nomination, she had a reasonably well-balanced personal life. She has become both a political leader and a celebrity since then.
Celebrity is brutal on family life, with so many examples that it is unnecessary to mention any to illustrate.
Maybe the price of Being Sarah Palin is higher than she thought. Maybe going forward means leaving important things behind.
Those issues don't conform to schedules.
Just my opinion, understand, but it fits the facts better than many others.
According to the May Nielson ratings, Stewart averaged 2.3 million viewers.
Hey Jon Boy, Sarah Palin’s Facebook Page has almost 3.5 million fans and supporters as her audience.
Some of her comments on Greta totally baffled me, as well as her demeaner. What do you mean, running for president would be to shackling? Makes no sense to me.
Yes, Sarah, the Presidency is "shackle-y." It is hard and stuff. There's stuff you gotta do. Its more than some stupid "reality show."
The fact that she even USED such a word, which is loaded with doubt in her own ability to rise to the occasion and be dedicated to the task, reveals her true character.
Sarah, you have had all the time in the world to decide whether or not the Presidency is too "shackle-y" for you.
If you don't know by now, maybe you are not cut out for the job.
The more I read this, the more I realize what a load of horse manure it really is.
She is suggesting that if she doesn't run for President, it will be because she fears that AS President, she will be shaped by her handlers, and that her message will be what contributors and pundits want it to be?
And she is afraid that she won't call it like she sees it, and that she won't affect positive change in the country?
"Thats the biggest contemplation piece in my process.
Then the White House is the LAST place this insecure and uncertain person needs to be.
Please see posts #45 and 46.
You hit the nail on the head. Palin doesn’t want to be President? OK she should unshackled herself and take off to Arizona.
Can anyone imaging Ronald Reagan saying anything REMOTELY LIKE THIS?:
Does that prohibit me from being out there, out of a box, not allowing handlers to shape me and to force my message to be what donors or what contributors or what pundits want it to be? Does a title take away my freedom to call it like I see it and to affect positive change that we need in this country? Thats the biggest contemplation piece in my process.” Sarah Palin
(She’s looking for an escape hatch, and a way to make her followers believe her failure to run is for the “greater good.”).
I decided some time ago to quit paying attention to any of the Gov. Palin fortune tellers (pro or con) and simply take her at her word. She’s been 100% consistent in every interview, including the most recent one with Greta, in stating that she hasn’t decided yet. I choose to believe her. I choose to believe she’s essentially honest, and not one to be deliberately deceptive or disingenous.
Taking her strictly at face value compels me to conclude that she may be too indecisive for me to automatically throw 100% support behind her whenever or if ever she makes a decision to run. Now, if she declares, I will consider her and weigh her debate performances, official policy statements, and formal candidate interviews, just as I am those of everyone else on the field.
Until a few weeks ago, a Gov Palin candidacy would have had my unhesitating support. Now she would have to earn it again.
Really.
So what you’re saying is you think this system of debates is a good and worthy one.
Right?
I enjoy it when you people attempt to be clever.
Lot of times, that doesn’t always solve the actual problem.
