BREAKING: Obama proposes letting the jobless sue for discrimination
Yahoo News ^

Advocates for the unemployed have cheered a push by the Obama administration to ban discrimination against the jobless. But business groups and their allies are calling the effort unnecessary and counterproductive.

The job creation bill that President Obama sent to Congress earlier this month includes a provision that would allow unsuccessful job applicants to sue if they think a company of 15 more employees denied them a job because they were unemployed.

The provision would ban employment ads that explicitly declare the unemployed ineligible, with phrases like "Jobless need not apply." As The Lookout has reported, such ads appear to have proliferated in recent years, prompting an inquiry by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

“The job creation bill that President Obama sent to Congress earlier this month ....”

He actually sent a bill to Congress? I think not.

Since when does someone need to have permission to sue?

Obviously making unemployed people a protected class makes it easier for them to win lawsuits.

Anyway, this measure is just one more wasteful, probably hurtful enlargement of government.

I'm going to sue an airline for not making me a pilot of a 747.
If that fails I'll sue a hospital for not hiring me as a staff doctor. I doesn't matter that I don't know how to fly an airplane and have no medical training. The law says I can sue because I've been "discriminated" against. These oppressive companies and organizations have no right to deny me the career of my choice. This is all about ME!

Who are they going to sue??? Me??? Obama??? The Ghost Busters???

Half of my customers are out of work and they aren't crying to the government. Since they realize it's the government that is screwing the economy up.

Oops better keep quiet I might get the EEOC coming to my small business to shake me down.

I recall that this whole jobless/unemployment thing started right around the time he took office.

I am wondering if this is a precursor to actually telling businesses who they can hire and who they can’t. Mussolini seemed to really take to that idea, though it didnt work out so well for him in the end.

I dont think even Hillary would do such a thing.

It has to be satire. This has to be The Onion and not Yahoo. It just has to be.

A GOP Congresscritter was raising hell about it on the news the other day. Didn't sound like he was kidding.

Interesting that Obama can do this, but we can’t seem to do anything about illegals taking our jobs.

I do happen to think that making so employers cannot discriminate against the jobless is a good idea.

There are lots of reasons why an individual may be out of the work-force for an extended period. Perhaps the person suffered an injury, or had to care for an injured family member? Perhaps the individual stopped working to help raise a child? Or to do some study?

Just because a person happens to be jobless doesn't mean it's because they are lazy.

However, the allowing people to sue businesses for not getting a job? Is this Obama’s plan to improve the economy? Because I really don't think having thousands of small businesses dragged through the civil courts is gonna to encourage people to invest or expand.

Maybe the unemployed can claim that their major qualification for a job is their capability at job-hunting

Only if the succeed!

I agree it should be up to the employer. However I think the practice is short-sighted. There are a lot of great people out their who need jobs and would be great employees. To operate this way isn’t a good practice, but that doesn’t mean I think the feds needs to create a law against it.

"I recall that this whole jobless/unemployment thing started right around the time he took office."

It was...but as a senator. The decline started immediately after the DUmocrats took over (January of 2007) after the 2006 election. The Jackass-in-chief and his fellow donkeys OWN the econmic disaster and his assention to pres_ _ent only accelerated the rise in unemployment.
