the Texas Dream act says if you lived in Texas and attended school in Texas for the 3 years prior to graduation you are considered a resident for post secondary tuition purposes.
This actually applies to anyone including LEGALS .
so someone born in new York but who lived here and attended school here for 3 years can attend a college here as a resident.
I hate that this DREAM act here takes us one step closer to amnesty.
Enforce our current laws and illegals will go back. It is that simple and I think if we the people keep pressure on the electeds we can get to a point our country actually enforces its laws.
Before building a multi-billion dollar wall, let's change that law above.
Cost: Nothing to change the law.
Savings: $10,000 to $25,000 in savings per illegal child per year. Also...It would be one more discouragement for illegals to come and/or stay, and would increase their visibility in the community if their kids were not in school.
Texas has tougher restrictions on in-state illegal aliens than 38 other states. Only 4 states deny in-state tuition; 8, like Texas, actually have some guidelines.
I guess I don’t understand the furor over Texas having tougher limits on in-state tuition for illegals than 38 other states in the union.
Then again, I understand little about FR these days.
A late-night talk show host has made the point several times, which I agree with, that the current illegal alien problem is the result of a conscious business model. Insourcing of cheap labor has been the result of numerous industries lobbying DC for decades to not enforce the laws on the books, so they can have their hotel maids and poultry handlers. The net result is what we see now.

Propose a law that says illegals are free to work in this country but only if the employer pays something like a 30% surcharge on every illegal salary that goes directly to the states. We’ll see if businesses really need to get the work done that Americans don’t want to do, or whether they just want to get the work done that Americans won’t do for low wages.

If so, than you can hardly be called unbiased.
Its also about fairness. Kids who’s parents are here legally, pay tuition based on their parents actions - if the parents are modestly successful, the kids pay more for school since they don’t qualify for grants.
Perry wants to say kids of illegals shouldn’t be held to the same standard of their parents actions - in fact he outright says parents actions should not affect the cost of higher education.
That’s not how the system works for kids here legally.

That’s not what the furor is about. It’s about a Presidential candidate who is weak on immigration and calls the rest of us heartless racists.
That is correct. My children are adults now but when they were in school, on the first day, the principal asked each student if they knew of any child who should be in school but wasn't. If each child had to present a **valid** social security number and birth certificate before enrollment, then these illegals would become very visible in the community precisely because they would not be in school. The result would be deportation of the entire family.
Exactly, they sign off on an affidavit with some verbiage about seeking citizenship...ooops...how?
The Fed code says overstay in the US unlawfully for over 6 months would not allow one to seek residency or citizenship for TEN YEARS.
The politicians are good at hiding and misrepresenting the FACTS on all of this.
Rick Perry necessarily had to whore himself out to a race to win Texas. America is bigger than a race, throwing his fellow non-Hispanic citizenry under the bus to pander to a race is not going to fly for a presidential position. I view his picture under the La Raza banner as being equivalent to posing under a KKK banner.

Are illegal aliens in Texas exempt from paying sales tax and property tax? There is no state income tax in Texas, right?
It is NOT a "law". The Supreme Court ruled as such, 5-4, in Plyer v. Doe. Feel free to Google this complex case. The SCOTUS should indeed OVERTURN the ruling. But Congress cannot.
