Thousands Line Up In Philadelphia For Food Stamps

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Thousands of people in Philadelphia are waiting in long lines for aid due to losses caused by Hurricane Irene; however, there is a lot of confusion over who exactly qualifies.

At several locations throughout the city, thousands lined up to get a month’s worth of food stamps for food that was ruined by Hurricane Irene in late August.

However, confusion of who is exactly qualified for the food stamps has lead to long lines and short tempers.

Officials say the application deadline is 7 p.m. Tuesday for the Federal Emergency Management Agency program, which is administered by the state.

Officials say it could take between 24-48 hours before an application for the food stamps is screened.

No kidding! We’ve had CAT 5 Tornadoes come through our area - I don’t remember any citizen EVER being offered anything! It was assumed we were all hard working citizens who had homeowners insurance, etc.

Granted, I PREFER Government NOT be in my life in any way, shape or form, but it’s still annoying that those we’re already supporting are always ‘Johnny on the Spot’ for even MORE freebies. *Rolleyes*

I bought a bunch of ice on the expectation that I would lose power, but I never did. Shouldn’t I be reimbursed by FEMA for that ice?

There was an article posted yesterday that seemed like it was saying that anyone on food stamps in CT was getting a $375 bonus in case they had any food troubles related to Irene.>

They can actually get up to $975 per family if they claim enough kids ("family" of 6 or greater).

Basically, the whole thing is an Obama Giveaway Program for Holder's People.

It actually makes me sick to think about how we are slashing programs for veterans, but this garbage gets fully funded. Is this what Harry Reid threatened to shut the Government down over?

And The Community Organizer, kissing the a$$es of "black leaders" - who whine over not getting enough Govt Giveaways and cash.

Okay, you want the truth? I saw this story linked on Drudge and went there to read the article. I was so angry that I couldn't bring myself to watch the video.

Obama is going to gut defense, destroy our aerospace industry, break faith with our veterans - yet there isn't a giveaway welfare program he doesn't love.

I know what you mean. It's just tough to watch.

I got an e-mail from a friend of mine who went through the floods in Iowa floods. He said the folks who got hit the hardest made their own way, neighbors helped, and through their churches they helped each other.

When FEMA and the usual suspects DID show up, and when it came time to givin way the "free" goodies, it was Obama Voters on parade.

It’s like the US government is literally THROWING money away. Programs like these eat up hundreds of millions. Almost half of it is borrowed. No one in power seems to know or care.

Look into the history of the Galveston Hurricane of 1900.
Convicts were brought in to gather the dead. Best estimates were around 8,000 bodies. The convicts were given whiskey to help them through their day. Those that refused to work were shot and killed. No bull.

Our society sure has changed. Now the inmates set the terms.
