Already talked to my kids about this and told them that it is BC and AD and never let anyone tell you otherwise.
This all started not too long ago from guess where, Wikipedia.
They had changed it to CE for common era and BCE before common era
I’m letting off mail to the BBC right now.
We have a calender in the west and we go by it and if those who come here do not like it then piss off.
I’ll go over there and respect their ways but you need to come here and respect our ways so before some liberal troll says we need to respect them when they come here then if that is the case where is my respect?
No where and respect is a two way street

Meaningless....absolutely....
Historians 200 years hence will have to be TAUGHT what BC and AD means and HOW IT RELATES to BCE & CE.
To: knighthawk
just like AD and BC, the alternative terms still denote years in relation to the life of Christ.
The "life of Christ"? Only to the ignorant. Jesus was born no later than 4 BCE. That is a historical fact. So, once everyone starts referring to THIS year as "2008," then A.D. will make sense - otherwise, it merely perpetuates a middle ages myth that He was born in the year 1.
I thought EVERY year was anno domini.

BCE = Before the Christian era
CE = Christian era
Common? Yes, what they have in common is that they are based on the (approximate) birth of Christ, who, if you want, can be viewed as an historical person if not the Son of God.

There was a common era, until around 1900, or about when the diatonic scale came under attack.

Funny. I've never been offended. In fact, I kinda like it because it stamps this as a Judeo-Christian era.

The BBC now has today as Monday 28 SHawwal 1432 A.H.

Or you could make 1818, the year of Karl Marx's birth as year 1 of your own calendar and stop not giving credit to the Gregorian calendar.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses have used BCE and CE for Years!
They call it “Before The Christian Era”(BCE) and “The Christian Era”(CE).
I Think that’s correct (meaning)!?

Someone posted it a while back (and I may have heard it myself on a recent trip to England) but the BBC taken to saying “P.B.U.H.” following any mention of Mohammed in their broadcasts. I think I heard it, but wasn’t listening for it. I thought I heard some mumbling from the newsreader.

OK, I’ve read the whole flippin’ thread. I’ve also had my end-of-day cocktail.
All this debate about letters and terminology...
Yet when it comes down to it... What is measured is measured in terms of Jesus Christ and his incarnation on Earth.
It’s not important what they call (or abbreviate) the eras. The eras are defined numerically by Him. The atheists in the academy are kneeling before the Lord when they use His time to measure their pursuits.
Name it what you want, but He is the measurer of all. His time measures all time.

Well, Anne Domini is a well known porn star, while BC is a comic strip character.

As usual they still use Christ as the demarcation in history... so they are still referencing him without saying his name.
These people are so stupid.
