The Met is no longer non-prophet.
After at least an eight-year absence, images of Mohammed will return to the Metropolitan Museum of Art as the renovated Islamic galleries reopen in November.
The controversial depictions have not been seen in years, and there was some doubt about whether they would resurface when a $50 million renovation of the gallery space is completed.

Images of Mohammed?? Thought images weren’t allowed.
is there a pig section?
I will bet you a Pulled Pork sandwich it doesn’t happen.
I, like you, thought arabesque inlays and artistic calligraphy were all that is permitted. Any depiction of man or animals idolatry.
Here’s something to think about. If images aren’t allowed then how do they know the image is of Mohammed? Sound like one of those “newer” rules they concocted.
Don’t you just wonder where that $50 million cane from???
I remember it from the muzzies blowing up that huge ancient statue...I think in Afghanistan...and from pictures I’ve seen of the interior of old mosques.

Never pick a fight with someone with unlimited ink, and millions of frames to fill!
From what I recall, it's not quite so verboten with the Iranian Shi'a. For example, the movie "Bruce Almighty": banned in many Muslims countries, for the portrayal of God in human form.....but not in Iran, where it was acceptable. Go figure.
They don’t call it “Islamic Galleries” any more. It’s now Galleries for the Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia and Later South Asia. I suppose that would be GAALTICALSA (Galtic-alsa) for short.
I vaguely remember that not even Muslims have strictly adhered to this ban. Like, they sometimes have drawn cartoon books that were intended for religious instruction, and sure ‘nuff Mad Mo’s phizzog is in there. That might be what the Met is showing.
Did anyone else going to this website get accosted by an ad, ostensibly by Google, that “you have been selected from [your locale] for an exclusive survey” and which complains when you navigate away? This is happening on Firefox on Linux with the latest security updates, so it probably isn’t a virus, but it sure does not fit Google’s carefully polished public image to look like this.
The only people who REALLY adhere to it are the Saudis, naturally. There was a good exhibit at the Pergammon Museum in Berlin of Islamic art, and there quite a few depictions of Muhammad, though mostly from the Persian tradition.
I will say, I found some of the calligraphy.....impressive. Specially the calligraphy done in gold against sold lapis lazuli.
Yes, NY Post. I might have unwittingly moused on one of the ads on that page. But this kind of grab doesn’t seem to befit Google’s image. Google’s evildoing is more subtle. They are not vying with porn sites for eyeballs.
