Sarah Palin Can Square the William F. Buckley and Rush Limbaugh Rules For a Republican Primary
Human Events ^ | Sunday September 25, 2011 | Tony Lee

Posted on 09/25/2011 2:28:20 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

Herman Cain win in the "Presidency 5" straw poll in Florida on Saturday has reset much of the narrative concerning the 2012 Republican presidential contest. Here are some questions being asked. First, was Cain's victory a reflection of the general dissatisfaction Republicans feel toward purported front-runners Mitt Romney and Rick Perry? Second, could another candidate enter the presidential contest? Third, will the Republican primary contest be a battle between the William F. Buckley rule versus the Rush Limbaugh rule?

If Republicans are indeed not enthused about Messrs. Perry and Romney, one candidate could be primed to enter the race who can square the Buckley rule of electing the most electable conservative with the Limbaugh rule of electing the most conservative person in the field.

That candidate is former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Buckley said that Republicans should elect the most electable conservative in the field. Often, Republicans act as if Buckley said Republicans should elect the most electable "Republican" in the field and conflate "conservative" with "Republican."

[...]

One reason Palin may have won over independent voters in the past month is that she brought up the issue of crony capitalism in multiple speeches and television appearances before Obama was hit with a bevy of crony capitalism scandals ranging from Solyndra to LightSquared. Further, Palin has also reached out to union workers and disaffected Democrats in Facebook notes and speeches with her free market populism that pits her against big government and crony capitalism. This is the strategy Reagan used to build his enduring coalition, which Palin seems to be trying to cobble back together for the 21st century, uniting blue collar voters -- white and minority -- who identify with Main Street over Wall Street and Washington, D.C.

This ten year freeper is sick and tired of dancing around the facts on every palin(™) thread...

Apparently not, you're on most every Palin thread.

What’s the difference between you Palin useful idiots and zero’s useful idiots? Nothing - you’re all idiots! Don’t put Palin on a pedestal until she steps up on it by herself. He has proven herself to be inept when answering tough questions and I don’t think she has improved much since last election. Anyone can give cute speeches and appear smart - just look at the bastard-in-chief. I don’t like the fact that Palin quit as governor. You can say she did it to save the state money or whatever but that’s crap and you should know it. A fighter sticks to her guns, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead and take no prisoners. War is hell. The people of Alaska don’t think as highly of her as you palin lovers do. I’d lay big odds she’s playing around here with no intention of entering the race but if by the slightest chance she does, I would support her if she got the nomination. In the meantime support Herman Cain, a man who is in the race now battling it out and the man who will beat obammy.

Details, please. There’s a lot of “unqualified” and “unelectable” claims kicked around without much of specifics backing it up.

No, seriously, details please. Not everyone has dug up what you have.

Do you think that you're helping Cain by behaving like this?

I doubt that Cain would speak so rudely. If he did, I wouldn't consider voting for him.

Sorry I appeared rude - not my intention. My point is a candidate is judged by their actions. If they want to run, then run, if they don’t then don’t. Don’t lead people on. If it turns out that Palin doesn’t run, how will you feel - used? I personally don’t believe she handled herself well during the last election and I fear she hasn’t improved and if she enters with the same baggage, we’re all going to look bad and Obummer wins. Only a VERY strong candidate should wait until November/December. This is a shaking out period and everyone should show their stuff. I think she has self-doubts.

I won’t feel at all used. I want Sarah to be fully committed if she chooses to run. If she doesn’t run, my second choice at this point would be Cain. I respect both, and trust both to do what’s best for our country. I also like Santorum, Gingrich and Bachmann, in that order.

... I personally don’t believe she handled herself well during the last election and I fear she hasn’t improved ...

Hahahahahahahahahaha Hahahahahahahahahaha

I want some of what you been smokin'!

Sarah Palin drew the biggest crowds during the last election, without having a rock band doing warmup at the colleges where Zero went. She continues to do so, even today.

There were twice as many (or more) when she showed up by herself, than with McPain. Last month, in New Hampshire, McRomney had a couple hundred (reportedly) supporters show up for an event, and the following day, Sarah had THOUSANDS.

You echo the MSM talking points, and act as any other of the PDSers herein. I don't believe Sarah has any "self-doubts", though I am sure you want others to believe such crap. She knows how to tweek the MSM, and you apparently! She is gaining ground against everybody running , WITHOUT ANNOUNCING!!

From the article: ...Because Palin now beats Obama among swing voters and is almost within the margin of error against Obama (and is the only candidate who is surging against Obama)... -(Marist Poll)

"Better than that, I looked at her actual record as mayor and governor and I saw her rambling, dis-jointed "I quit" speech live."

Speaking of rambling and disjointed, have you ever seen the section of the Katie Couric interview where she defended her support for the TARP plan Bush proposed?

Big crowds mean nothing.....big votes mean everything. Giving speeches means nothing.....answering tough questions intelligently means everything. Sorry, I see less substance in Palin than I think is necessary to beat obammy which is not to say bammy has more substance. He has more useful idiots who could care less about his lack of accomplishments. All they have to say is Sarah quit and her candidacy is down the toilet. Americans don’t like quitters regardless of the reason. Show me a quitter and I’ll show you a loser. Crucify me all you want, but you can’t dispute my words.

Interesting factoid about the words “realist” and “pragmatist”. In C.S.Lewis’ book “Screwtape Letters”, the main devil character called himself and his fellow devils “realists”. And in “That Hideous Strength” the evil side prided themselves on being “pragmatists”.

IMO people who pride themselves on being a realist or pragmatist often’ have priorities other than conservative/Constitutional principles. I ran into one the other day who called himself a “pragmatist” and when I checked his posting history it was clear he is a political operative - every single post was about politics as a win/lose game, not one single word about principles or conservative issues. And of course he disses Palin and Cain. I just haven’t figured out whether he’s a Dem or R operative.

New Jersey Realist, I may be misreading you entirely and if so I apologize. I don’t have time right this minute to check your posting history but hopefully will later today (after shudder...dentist...).

But at this point, as Norm Lenhart The Wise has pointed out, FR will be flooded (and is being so already) with political operatives from both sides.

... Crucify me all you want, but you can’t dispute my words.

More hyperbole from a PDSer. Sarah Palin hasn't "quit" anything. She did resign from her position as Governor for the good of her State, and her family. She saved the Alaskans a bundle by her action of bravery.

But, you probably know that and like to keep repeating the canard put forth by the MSM. I'd expect that from a small-minded individual, but you posit that you are among the elite that make elections happen.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I doubt many more than the few PDSers herein see any truth in your words. You are obviously speaking about things alive in your small mind... and crucifixion references are about as low as you can go!

But, you have Christy, don't you... and you'd likely make a good pundit for him! On here, you're just somebody else wanting attention on Sarah Palin's coat tails!

Obama’s Message to America: The Era of Big Government is Back, Now Help Me Pay For It

by Sarah Palin on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 2:22am (- read it all at link)

"The President’s State of the Union address boiled down to this message: “The era of big government is here as long as I am, so help me pay for it.” He dubbed it a “Winning The Future” speech, but the title’s acronym seemed more accurate than much of the content.

Americans are growing impatient with a White House that still just doesn’t get it. The President proves he doesn’t understand that the biggest challenge facing our economy is today’s runaway debt when he states we want to make sure “we don’t get buried under a mountain a debt.” That’s the problem! We are buried under Mt. McKinley-sized debt. It’s at the heart of what is crippling our economy and taking our jobs. This is the concern that should be on every leader’s mind. Our country’s future is at stake, and we’re rapidly reaching a crisis point. Our government is spending too much, borrowing too much, and growing too much. Debt is stifling our private sector growth, and millions of Americans are desperately looking for work.

So, what was the President’s response? At a time when we need quick, decisive, and meaningful action to stop our looming debt crisis, President Obama gave us what politicians have for years: promises that more federal government “investment” (read: more government spending) is the solution.

He couched his proposals to grow government and increase spending in the language of “national greatness.” This seems to be the Obama administration’s version of American exceptionalism – an “exceptionally big government,” in which a centralized government declares that we shall be great and innovative and competitive, not by individual initiative, but by government decree. Where once he used words like “hope” and “change,” the President may now talk about “innovation” and “competition”; but the audacity of his recycled rhetoric no longer inspires hope." ...
